I'm googling and not seeing the info I need right now. dd told me she wants (or better yet wants me) to subscribe to some monthly itunes music thing. She thinks it'll cost around $10 a month.
Here's the issue....she's playing music on her phone and it's using data she says. Must be pandora or some other app. She thinks this will solve the problem, but i'm not sure how, wouldn't she be accessing the data to play it in the car? Is it downloaded and if you quit paying the lock you out?
She thinks this is the most cost effective way to have music, but i'm not so sure.

It sounds like she wants you to subscribe to Apple Music. Subscribing to Apple Music won't solve the data problem. You can download music/playlists to your device to play offline, but that's going to use pretty big amounts of storage space, which is fine if you have a decent amount of memory on your device. So, I guess it might help if her phone or device has lots of available storage, but otherwise, I don't think Apple Music (or any online streaming service) is going to help with the data issue.

I have a young co-worker who subscribes to Pandora's monthly thing because it's like a music radio station that play playlists of genres she selects. She sees no need in buying individual songs because she can just fine tune her station to listen to whatever she wants to that day.

I don't know about Apple Music, but Spotify and Amazon both have subscriptions. Once you subscribe you can download the music to your phone (it disappears when you stop subscribing), but the previous poster is correct. It takes up space on your phone so unless she has a decent sized phone it won't help. If you don't download it still streams and uses data.

Oh...! I just had this conversation with my son. We took a trip up north and he had pandora on the whole time. Unless you have full on wifi the whole time, it uses data in the car to play the music. And my son didn't care because he is on his dad's office plan and they have data coming out the wahzoo...
Anyway, unless the music is actually downloaded onto the phone, then streaming uses either data or through wifi.

With Apple Music you can download the music to your phone once, so while it takes up storage on your phone it doesn't use data.. the music is on your phone so you aren't streaming it.
We download things at home using wifi and then listen to them in the car and it has never hugely impacted our data.
ETA I think I pay about $20 for two of us.

In my previous office when one employee was home working after surgery and then decided to watch Netflix, a huge spike was noticed in usage and she was questioned on it.

If you are on t-mobile (I forget the name of the plan) you get free music streaming. Not sure if it includes Apple, but Pandora and Spotify are part of it. I use it a lot in the car.

Apple Music is awesome! (So is Spotify Premium.) Either of those would be great for her. Nice way to get virtually unlimited music. My teens love it! I think it's worth the $10 per month.

Yes, it includes APple Music as well. I'm pretty sure this isn't any special plan (except probably doesn't include pre paids). Plus you can video stream for no data charges either.
