I am at the dentist having a crown placed. While placing it, she dropped it down my throat. I swallowed it. She's recommending I get a chest X-ray to make sure it didn't go into my respiratory system. I feel fine, just sort of like I swallowed a big pill.
Would I feel pain if it went into my respiratory system?
Anyone else have this happen?

oy! Chances are high it did not lodge in your trachea and that you did indeed swallow it right into the esophagus and it will come out the other side soon enough. If it is small enough, you would not necessarily feel pain. If it is larger or gets deeper into the respiratory tree, you could start wheezing. Peace of mind for all, get the xray.

WTH?! I'm sorry that happened. I would get the x ray just to be safe.

Wow! I hope you are okay. I would get it just in case and I hope they don't charge you for the crown. I swallowed a temporary once and was perfectly fine. I am sure it just passed through me.

I did get the X-ray. And, yes the dentist said they would cover all the costs. It's worked its way into my digestive tract.
The Dr's office wants me to try and find it and if I can't come back for another X-ray. It's so tiny. That just all seems unnecessary. I am certainly not scooping thru my poop to find it.

So why exactly are they wanting you to find it? For peace of mind ? Or are they wanting to reuse it??

Peace of mind. To ensure that it hasn't lodged in my digestive tract. The dentist isn't asking for me to look for it...no way in that!

Oh my word, that is awful! Now another reason I will never, ever get another crown. I have two, and that's enough for my lifetime. From now on, pull the tooth and leave me be. Ick!

LOL! This was a replacement crown for one I got 15 years ago which chipped.
The nurses at the ER were hilarious. They all wanted to see my X-ray.
