I want to be a night person but I can't help myself from loving getting up at 7 am. I want to be an OWL or a BAT, but I think at heart I am a chicken. I don't know how this can be. I get up at 7 and I get stuff done. If I get up at 11, I am overtired and cranky.
I am an odd duck.
ETA I didn't mean to lock the poll. I am sorry! Ok added another poll.

I am wide awake with the sunrise and start fading quickly when the sun goes down. Winter is BRUTAL for me! Sun up at like 7 and down by 4:30. It's tough!

Most definitely a night person. I always have been and so was my mom. It's not too bad now that I don't have to go to work, but when I had to be there at 6am it about killed me!

Night. I work 7pm to 3:30am, and love it. I go to sleep around 5am and get up about noon. It works for me and the family .

It is 12:15 here. Thankfully I don't go into work until 10. It is a four minute drive.

Night! In so many ways. It's like a switch goes off.I'm super sluggish during the day but by about 8 pm is when I get going. Been that way as long as I can remember. Without Lunesta I don't sleep. I feel better and function better in the evening. I HATE the mornings.

I have ALWAYS been a night person. It's 1:30 and I am still wide awake. But I have struggled with insomnia my whole life so that may be part of it!

I'm a night person but I've worked 6pm to 6am for more then 15 yrs... so that has sorta created the person I am now..
If i stay up all day to try to switch over for my days off.. I still wake up wide awake at 1 am...

Day for sure. I am one of those annoying morning people who roll out of bed and need no time at all to adjust. When the sun goes down, I am pretty much done.

Another night person and insomniac. It's not unusual for me to enjoy the dawn because I haven't slept yet.

I suffer from chronic insomnia...going on 30 years now. I'm a chicka-owl. I'm usually up until at least midnight and regardless of how late I was up the night before my eyes pop open at sunrise. Drives me nuts!!! I'm sitting here at work so tired I feel like a zombie. I'm just hoping and praying that the special snowflake calls are kept to a bare minimum today...I really don't know how many times I can say "I see you called about 3 minutes...the tech should be arriving shortly" with a sweet tone in my voice. Sorry OP my answer sorta turned into a rant/vent!!!

I guess I'm more situational. I adjust to whatever best schedule my life calls for at the time.
At this stage, my husband gets up at 5:15 am as he likes to get to work even earlier than the office actually opens. It works best when we both adhere to his schedule (I don't have to be at work until 8:30 or 9:30 when I am working depending on which part-time job it is). So we are early risers and usually head to bed around 10 pm. I wake up cheerful no matter what time and I'm a champion sleeper, so the actual schedule doesn't rally matter to me.

Did you already lock the vote ? Get everyone to agree with you and then stop the ability to vote I don't sleep much. I'm good in the morning, wish for a nap (don't get it), then stay up late.

I get up at 6:30am each day but I don't actually "wake up" til about 4pm. and I force myself to go to bed by 11 but if I could, I'd easily stay up til 1am.

I'm a day person. If I'm not getting up for work, I'm getting up for the puppies. I have to be a day person. DH is a night owl always has been. DS is a early bird and a night owl (drives me nuts!)

My ideal life would run in 5 hour cycles. 5 hours of sleep followed by 5 hours of being awake, repeat.

My ideal life would run in 5 hour cycles. 5 hours of sleep followed by 5 hours of being awake, repeat. That would be perfect for me as well!!! I can sleep like the dead for about 4-5 hours at a time but then I'm wide awake.

I can go either way. I'm up with the sun most days and it can be nearly midnight before I'm ready to sleep. At least once a week, I will sleep from 9pm to 7/8am. Even though I'm up with the sun and can be awake as early as 530am, my bed is so comfortable that I can barely drag myself out of it until 7am.

Day. I'm completely useless after 10 p.m. and often earlier than that. Even when I was young and in school, I could never study late. If I didn't know it by 10:00 in the evening before a test day, I wasn't going to learn it.
The challenge this time of the year is there is so much to do early in the day. I'm eating breakfast now after having walked and showered. If I need to do anything else outdoors, I have to do it in the morning because it gets to hot. And my scraproom in an attic bedroom gets hot later in the day. For me, it isn't that there aren't enough hours in the day, there aren't enough hours in the morning.
And on that note, I'd better get busy.

Even in the summer, I'm up by 6:30 because I just can't sleep anymore. I always been this way and always wondered if it was nature or nurture. My parents are day people and I was raised this way. DH was raised by night people and he can stay up very late.

DH was raised by night people and he can stay up very late. Good question-I know that my mom is also a morning person, but she will tell me that even as a baby I would wake up early and sit in my crib laughing and babbling until someone came in. My youngest, even as a little guy would regulate his bedtime-if he was tired and I wasn't moving toward bedtime fast enough, he would tell me he was going to bed. Even now, at 17/18 he is in bed by 9 and asleep by 10 and for a teenager, up early (by 9.) My oldest though has always fought bedtime, would stay up if he could, and sleeps longer. He is 20 and can sleep until well beyond lunch time. Even as a kid he would sleep later than the rest of us and is the single grumpiest person I have ever met when he does get up. My ex is definitely not a morning person. And for the most part, he is an early to bed, early to rise kind of guy. I would think that if it was a matter of nurture, the boys would reflect more of their shared experience rather than being the opposite of each other. I think it is more a personality thing.

In my heart I am a night person but I couldn't continue staying up late then getting up early for work. Plus we have a cat who is most decidedly a morning cat. Now, I am generally up pretty early and ready to start the day shortly after.

Night. I don't even feel fully awake until evening. When we used to travel a lot by car, I was always designated night driver. I could drive all night long, but no matter how long I was behind the wheel, as soon as the sun came up, I was done. I've always said the only way I care to see a sunrise is if it's just before I go to bed.
