Yep, they were the last hold outs!!! Murphree, babyyyyyyy!!!! I didn't live on campus, but did live close by and walked right by there every day on my way to class. I was in one of those funky old apartments behind the purple porpoise (in the ghetto) with jalousie windows that didn't really close and a window unit a/c that worked when it felt like it. I also had brown shag carpet, a peptobismal pink refrigerator and a very easy stumble home from the porpoise nickel beer night. Sounds like heaven! Sad, they are all pretty much torn down now. Not much "ghetto" left. Those old houses turned apartments had great character.

And it takes away all the cheap housing for the poor students. AND if I can reminisce about one more thing?? I miss Burrito Brothers SO much. SOOOO much.

It's still good, when I was there last (2009 or 2010, I think?) but you of course are missing the 20 some years of caked on grease that you had at old location. (Hey, it's character! It was a literal, hole in the wall!) I saw on FB, they are building some student housing high-rise thing on that corner.

And don't forget the surly workers-oh my, woe unto the person who didn't order fast enough. And enough dreadlocks, armpit hair and patchouli to last a life time. I miss the holes in the wall-the old CJ's, Burrito Brothers, Bagel Brothers...*sigh*

I lived in BOTH of those buildings, same years, too. When were you there? I was there 86-90. I'm sure I'm older, LOL. Not much older - still a Redskin. I was there 90-94. I grew up in Greenville - about 50 miles north. My sister was there 95-99 - started as a Redskin, graduated a Redhawk. So I was headed out when you were starting. I know Greenville-- my roommate was from Versailles.

I spent my first year in college living in the dorms. no A/C. just a window. we didn't even have a fan. funny, I don't remember suffering with the heat. I guess that was the gift of being young and resilient. as an older adult today, I am really sensitive to heat and I would need to have a good fan in the room if there was no A/C

My freshman dorm didn't have A/C and it was in hot as hades Alabama. We were allowed to sleep in the lobby on the floor if we really couldn't get to sleep in our rooms. A bunch of people did that to start and then decided the privacy was worth the trade off of a hot room. I would put a bowl of ice in front of my box fan and get my hair wet(not take an actual shower because that would just make me hotter) before bed.

Water bottle AC does she have a window? Also, you can get stand alone A/C units. That is fabulous!! My DD is already planning to build one!!
