My kids asked for one the other day. I was like no way! 2 of the boys were chronic nose bleeders, like daily for years even with cauterization. If they ever come to inspect my house as a crime scene they will think I'm a serial killer!

I have no plans to buy one, but now will make sure not to!! 3kids, a slobbery dog, cats...nope. I can guess. I guess grandma's advice to thoroughly wash down every wall in the house every 6 months is worth heeding. I count myself good if I do it once a year, although with a teen boy, I scrub bathroom walls at least weekly. We will need to repaint walls and replace our baseboard heater when he goes off to college.

Raise your hand if you've never washed a wall in your life - unless it was obviously, visibly dirty.

Well, I just dis some research and many things glow under a black light. Many detergents and soaps (Irish Spring which we use was mentioned) will show as well as dust particles trapped in the moisture in the bathroom. Most dust is made from skin cells which will show up under the light. So I am feeling a bit better but I still will be wall washing much more frequently than in the past. Oh, and I have a brand new black lite flashlitee for sale cheap!

If they ever come to inspect my house as a crime scene they will think I'm a serial killer! LOL! My husband cut his leg a number of years ago. The baby aspirin really thins his blood. So, the first night he bleed all over the bed, through the sheets and mattress pad, and into the mattress. I told him he was not allowed to come up missing anytime soon because I would be charged with his murder because of all the blood in the mattress. As for the OP, I have considered getting a black light from sheer curiosity. At the same time, I don't want to add to my issues. Sorry for your unsettling discovery.

We bought one of those a couple months ago. After 19 years of perfect litter box behavior from a total of 8 cats over the years, one of the boys started spraying in the house, so we bought the light to find the spots. We found the spots. And a variety of other mysterious spots, stains and marks. We have 5 cats living in our 3 bedroom apartment (2 are mine and DH's, and then DD28 has her 3). My female cat is 7 years old. She's been skittish since we got her, but got even more strange after we adopted a black male cat a year later. Then we moved (NJ to FL) and I thought she was adjusting okay........ until my daughter moved in with us and her 3 cats!? They pretty much stay in DD's room, but my female cat sprays! I brought it up with the vet and he said that it's rare but it can happen. It's GROSS! Plus, she pees on things now, if she's nervous or angry. We know not to leave blankets, clothes, bags or anything on the floors. I wanted to get the light to make sure she didn't pee or spray anywhere I didn't clean. Sometimes with cats it's a "surprise"! To the OP: Is it easy to spot these marks with the light? I have a pretty good idea of which rooms to look in and I only care about the carpets and furniture.........

Oh, it's very easy to see the marks. Every tiny little horrid spot stands out like a neon light. You just need to use it in a darkened room.

I also have one for my anxiety-ridden cat. It helped find the stains in the carpet. Worked really well for that. Has your cat ever been on prozac? It's been a life-changing drug for my cat. She's the poster-kitty for cat anti-depressant.

lmao.. we bought one last year to help find invisible pet spots on our carpet. then I used it to show the boys how disgusting their bathroom is! they were amazed and disgusted. they clean it once a week, and sometimes I send them in there with the light and tell them to keep going til nothing glows.

Raise your hand if you've never washed a wall in your life - unless it was obviously, visibly dirty. I always wash walls before painting because the paint will adhere better and last longer. And bathroom and kitchen walls once a year. But not the rest of the house. But when I did do it for painting I was always shocked.

Years ago my ds had a rash that was puzzling his pediatrician. The exam room had a window so he took us across the hall to a storage room to look at it with a black light. The rash did not light up but a number of spots on the wall did. He was so embarrassed and called to get it cleaned right away!

So I shudder to think what kind of "pet spots" there would be on our carpet, from drool and doggie saliva alone!! (and add me to the list of people who has never washed an entire wall-- I've only ever just used Formula 409 on any obvious spots around doorways, doorknobs, etc.)

we installed what turned out to be an extremely forgiving carpet in our lower level, and it made any urine spots impossible to find. you knew they were there because of the odor, but couldn't find them to clean.

I've raised two boys in this house. And their friends. I wish I hadn't read this! Poor reading, I was hoping for a funny story about trying to find a black handled flashlight in the dark. I've got to stop skimming titles.

Where do you get the prozac for them?? Is than an Rx? Also, I bought my cats a toy and it happened to have catnip in it. She played with it and it calmed her down SO much that I wondered if I should get much more of it for her to play with...... Not sure which way I should go, but, I'll tell ya, sometimes I really feel like opening the door and letting her go, but I wouldn't do that. She just drive me NUTS most times! Ughhh!

My vet prescribed it as a last ditched effort before I lost my mind. The feliway collars work, too. But not enough to help my crazy cat. It was really really bad. We're talking peeing on carpets, furniture, laundry at least 4 times a day. She doesn't do that at all anymore.
