I want to get a pair to bum around in and will be ordering online. Lengthwise i'm an 8.5 and my feet are wider than skinny after years of being very active. Are they true to size?

Converse run pretty narrow. I'd suggest trying them on in a store if you can.

Thanks. I'll order a 9 and see how they fit. I do most shopping online as the closest town has pretty much everything I need but sometimes the "wants" aren't available:).

Make sure you are ordering 2 sizes down for ladies. They usually come in mens sizes (the classic converse).

Hmmm, the place I'm ordering from definitely specifies that they are ladies. I guess I'll have to call. Thanks for the tip!

Mine always seem about a size too large in length in my regular men's size, but when I try to size down, they are too small. I put a gel insole in there and just go with it.

I tried a few pairs on in a store and did not like how they felt. I ended up getting a pair of Vans and love them. I just wanted sneakers to go with jeans and shorts and they are perfect for that. My daughters love Vans too.

If you have any kind of foot issue that requires support, pass on them. They are so flat. So cute, but so flat.

They are tight and narrow. I have a turquoise pair and they are super cute, but they pinch my toes so I almost never wear them.

They are narrow and they do run large. My daughter loves them, has since she was a child and she always goes down a size. Her boyfriend received a pair as a gift and they are too big because his Mom got him his size. I wouldfollow what others said and definitely try them on in a store first. I have a pair that I seldom wear because of the narrowness. Cute but not comfortable for any length of time.

I agree they run narrow. So cute, but my Fred Flintstone feet can't wear them.
I also agree that there's no support. They have the C2s now that have more support, but my kid who lives in Converse doesn't think they help much. She has a platform pair that she wears when she's going to be out all day.

Yep, very narrow. I have a couple of pairs of Vans, and Keds have even made a comeback, but I leave the Converse for my narrow-footed oldest daughter.

I have wide feet also. If you find Converse and Vans too narrow, try Superga. They're made in Italy and easier to find online (Zappos and Amazon) than in stores, though I think Nordstrom might carry them. Very comfortable with good support.

I would say they are true to size but I have ski size feet (size 10). I love my Chucks and own 3 pairs but could easily own every color if I could afford it.

I absolutely live in converse. Like others stated your best bet is to try them on in real life. Chuck Taylor's come in different versions so there is a difference in fit. I have very narrow, AA feet, size womens 10 and no arch. I wear men's sizes 7, 7 1/2 or 8 depending on the model. Considering they have little support I find them more comfortable then Nikes or other more sophisticated athletic type shoes.

DS wears them and we had to go 1/2 size down.

If you have any kind of foot issue that requires support, pass on them. They are so flat. So cute, but so flat. If you get them, find some good orthotic insoles to add to make them comfy.

I asked a similar question a while ago. A friend choose these as her wedding shoes and I'd never owned a pair before. The peas gave me great advice.
Try them on if at all possible. Apparently they come only in men's sizes, even when the shoes are listed as women's. IME,they run small/narrow. Also,IME, you may find one pair in a size 7 doesn't fit but another size 7 pair will be perfect. I even tried on shoes where one fit perfectly on one foot but was either way too big/too small on the other and I've never experienced that before.
If you can't try them on, I'd suggest making sure you can return/exchange...buy the woman's equivalent size and if you plan on wearing socks buy a size bigger than you would normally wear.

Converse definitely come in ladies sizes, depending on the style. My DD is a Converse addict, even designing her own at the store in NYC. She wears an 8 in Converse and regular shoes. Except for the C2's she needs an 8.5 in those.

They run large. I always go down half a size.

Narrow. I have a yellow pair and an orange pair that look like clown shoes on my because I had to get bigger sizes that are a little wider. What a waste of my money.

I have tried them on several times over the years and they always hurt my feet. I am more wide in the foot as well. I typically don't have to buy wide but in certain shoes I do.. Converse just doesn't cut it.. plus I wear a 10 and they make my feel look HUGE.
