Is Flip Pal still the best mobile scanner for photos?

I am going to my mom's house in a few weeks and I want to scan tons of old photos for a 50th wedding anniversary photo book.  I know that the Flip Pal scanner was once praised by the Peas as a great gadget because you could scan items without removing photos from albums and it is not required to be connected to a computer.

Anyone one have recent experience with it?  Any others I should consider?
