That man is not a good listener. And he's a blurter. Renders him close to incoherent sometimes. I'll watch him with an open mind when he starts making a lick of sense. And just to be a total curmudgeon: It wasn't until my second reading of this exchange that it bothered me that Lesly Stahl refers to "Hillary" and "Governor Pence" in the same sentence. Why isn't she calling him "Mike"? Pet peeve of mine, and now I'm annoyed at myself for no longer even noticing it. (I don't think the widespread use of Ms. Clinton's first name has anything to do with distinguishing her from her husband. I think there's more at play. ) This has bothered me all along. Carly Fiorina did it when she was running on the Republican ticket. What is wrong with a woman using her last name same as a man? Or at least being addressed by others as Mrs. or Secretary Clinton when he is addressed as Mr. Trump. Cruz calls him Donald but most people use his full name. I don't think Bernie Sanders helped this either by going by Bernie most of the time. The closest we've come to actually calling the President by something other than their last name was George W. Bush was called W sometimes to distinguish him from his father. I can't imagine anyone of either party addressing President Obama as "Barack."

I can't stand to hear another word come out of Trump's mouth. I know I sure as hell am not voting for him and I also know that after all of this time and the things he has said/done so far, if someone has given him a pass on that and still wants to vote for him, nothing he says now will change that. There is no point for me to add more negativity to my life at this point, so I am trying not to watch. But I always end up getting sucked in and end up watching the news where I at least get the highlights (or are they lowlights?). In reality, it seems like those who like either Trump or Clinton are willing to give them a pass on their "bad things." And boy oh boy, they've both given their fans plenty of things to overlook! I'm dreading Election Day, when I have to make a choice between these two. But you don't have to choose between them! There are others running you can vote for who will be on the ballots in all 50 states. No one can say they had to choose the lesser of two evils in November. For me, personally, I'll be going with www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGD8gJt7weUSave

As for the interview, it might have helped Trump a little if he had shut up and let Pence talk. This was supposed to be about Pence but Trump kept interrupting and answering the questions himself, or ignoring the questions and just saying whatever he wanted to say.
Also, Stahl was too jovial. It's fine to be friendly but I think she was just sitting there half slouched in her chair smiling and half kidding part of the time as though they had all just sat down from a party. I've seen her do serious interviews and I didn't get that impression from her last night. She certainly didn't ask Pence any of the things I'm wondering about. I've heard on this board about Pence stance on women's issues and how tough a fight he would have had for reelection in Indiana. Those are questions I would have liked to be asked.
Oh and didn't you just love those gold chairs? And did it matter than Trump has a 3 story Penthouse apartment?

Going WAAAAAYYYYY back many years, I was home because I was ill and couldn't go to school that day. I was watching the "Phil Donahue" show and Donald and Ivana Trump were on and he was talking about what a great job she did in decorating his hotels and casinos, and that instead of hiring a general manager, she did that job. Phil asked the question, "How much is she paid?" and Donald answered, "She gets paid a dollar a day and she gets to buy as many dresses as she wants."
Phil Donahue said "Sometimes, it's a problem for women to value their worth in what they bring to a business and he asked Ivana if she was okay with that (dresses in lieu of salary) and Ivana just kind of blinked and "Oh that's just fine."
I thought, "I think those two are headed for a divorce" and I also thought Donald Trump was a major asshat on that show.
They did divorce within a year of that show and Trump hasn't changed.

I found this article about Donald. It is from Vanity Fair and I thought it was well written. It is less like a tabloid article and seems less sensational. Vanity Fair article from 7/15

"You don't have to chose between the lesser of two evils. You can vote for ____ and send a message."
Send a message to who?
Either Trump or Clinton will be the next president. Don't like the choices? Then the American voter has no one to blame but themselves because we put them there. We had primaries and these two individuals got the most votes. Didn't like the choices we had during the primaries? Again it's the American voters fault that these are the choices we had to chose from. The American people have such unrealistic expectations when it comes to who we want our elected officials to be that the good decent people quit showing up.
So the choice is Clinton or Trump. And that' it as there is no viable third party candidate. And there won't be until one individual comes along that appeals equally to both sides. And I don't see that happening anytime soon.
So one can "waste" their vote by voting for Johnson or Stein. Or they can step back, take a deep breath, and look at the two candidates and try and figure out who will be the better president and vote accordingly.
The way I see it, doesn't matter who is president, with the current mood in Congress neither Clinton or Trump will get much done. So then you look at who you want choosing replacements for the Supreme Court. You also look at who has the temperament to handle those 3 am calls. And there has been a lot those calls these last several months. And to me it's those 3am calls that represent the greatest challenge to the next president. So to "waste" my vote on a Johnson or Stein is not an option.
The change the American people claim they want is not going to happen in one election. It took us years to get to this point and it's going to take years to clean up the mess the American voters have made.

I think Lesley was having a hard time keeping a straight face, it was almost like a Saturday Night Live skit. I know politicians skirt around their answers but not a single one of her questions was actually answered by Trump or Pence.

I also think Lesley was having a hard time taking this seriously, as most of us are. I watched, hoping that with a partner, Trump would be better - I should have known better. And, knowing nothing about Pence beforehand, I'm not impressed.
There is no way in hell I can put my faith in that man leading this country for the next four years. At this point, I will reluctantly for for her.
However, I just want to say that if all of the people who feel like I do--not liking one candidate that much more than the other--vote for 3rd party person, that 3rd party person may win. The only way another party will come to power/prominence is if people pay attention and vote for them. We the people, have allowed these two parties to evolve into what they are - and it is up to we the people to change that. We can't all say, I'd vote for XX, but it would be a wasted vote. If the majority of the people vote for XX, then XX will win!! And wouldn't that be something different - any/all of the "establishment" politicians may take note, and even the media will be surprised.

I didn't see the interview but read the written transcript of it and that was one of the weirdest and most disjointed things I ever read--like just painful to read. And Pence only said about three sentences from what I could tell. To his credit, they were lucid and complete sentences.

However, if it is just a case of I don't like either one so I'm going with someone different, be careful. If it isn't decisive in the electoral college, the House of Representatives will decide and they would likely give this to Trump. Many of them don't like him but he is the majority's candidate and they really don't like her.

I'll make a final decision when I see who her VP is. My point was that so many people are saying they would vote for a 3rd party, that if they really did, they 3rd party might win.

I didn't watch it but will check to see if any of it's on youtube anywhere. (if I can stomach it.)

My opinion is that he has no time for women who are poor and uneducated because they are of no use to him. Educated, sophisticated women in his world are good for his bottom line. I found where I had gotten my information. A quote from Donald from his book The Art Of the Comeback: “My big mistake with Ivana was taking her out of the role of wife and allowing her to run one of my casinos in Atlantic City, then the Plaza Hotel. The problem was, work was all she wanted to talk about. When I got home at night, rather than talking about the softer subjects of life, she wanted to tell me how well the Plaza was doing, or what a great day the casino had. I really appreciated all her efforts, but it was just too much. . . I will never again give a wife responsibility within my business. Ivana worked very hard, and I appreciated the effort, but I soon began to realize that I was married to a businessperson rather than a wife.” (“Trump: The Art of the Comeback”)

I didn't realize that most of those that posted so far would be watching it with an open mind to start with. I can say I was open minded and hoping to hear something that would give me a boost of confidence in the Republican ticket. I'm pretty confident either Trump or Clinton will win in November, not a third party or independent candidate. Even if I don't line up with the winner politically, I want to have confidence that they have a plan that is well thought out and can be articulated clearly. As a left leaning Independent, I wasn't horrified by a Romney/Ryan ticket and was okay with McCain until he selected Palin as a running mate. Trump couldn't let Pence answer questions and downplayed the possible reasons why he was a good pick (Trump didn't need an evangelical, he was alreay winning with evangelicals, etc.). I came away with the feeling that Trump would be just as happy running on his own and Pence had to toe the line with Trump's platform, even though he previously repudiated many of Trump's positions and statements, or risk getting fired. Did you watch the interview? What did you think of it?

That was embarrassing and what a shit head....he's going to give Pence a pass over his vote on the Iraqi War but not Hillary? Let's see...what were HIS exact words? I CANNOT wait until the debates...she is going to eat him for breakfast and spit him out....but that's only if he has the cojones to debate her and that remains to be seen. I was in the car this morning to a funeral about an hour away and when my sports radio station petered out, I found a fox news affiliate (I know) covering the RNC and discussing this interview. They gushed about how well Pence did and how Trump is what we need and "never Hillary." Did they actually listen to/watch the same interview??

I harbor no illusions about the viability of a third party candidate. I am not, however, obligated to compromise my integrity by voting for someone I find reprehensible just because they probably will be the winner. That does not mean I am wasting my vote or that I don't understand the SCOTUS ramifications. I actually like the libertarian ticket, and I can cast my vote for them and still be able to feel ok about myself.

I know I've evolved since then, maybe he has as well. That book may have been written in 1997,but has Donald evolved? From an article from GQ 4/16 "While Melania enjoys the services of a chef and an assistant, there’s no nanny raising their son, Barron. That’s the mother’s duty. “We know our roles,” Melania once told Parenting.com, referring to the division of labor with her husband. “I didn’t want him to change the diapers or put Barron to bed.” The boy she calls “little Donald” wants one day to be a “businessman and golfer” and, as she told the publication, almost always dresses in suits. “He’s not a sweatpants child,” she’s said. Melania is as fastidious a wife as she is a mother, which Donald appreciates. Things come easy with her. “I work very hard from early in the morning till late in the evening,” Donald told Larry King in 2005. “I don’t want to go home and work at a relationship.” To the twice-divorced Donald, Melania is terrific. He’s never heard her fart or make doodie, as he once told Howard Stern. (Melania has said the key to the success of her marriage is separate bathrooms.) He can trust her to take her birth control every day, he boasted to Stern; she’s just amazing that way. She has the perfect proportions—five feet eleven, 125 pounds—and great boobs, which is no trivial matter. Stern once asked Trump what he would do if Melania were in a terrible car accident, God forbid, and lost the use of her left arm, developed an oozing red splotch near her eye, and mangled her left foot. Would Donald stay with her? “How do the breasts look?” Trump asked. “The breasts are okay,” Stern replied. Then, yeah, of course Trump stays. “Because that’s important.” There are other pluses. He appreciates Melania’s restraint when it comes to Shopping While Trump. “She’s never taken advantage of that situation, okay, as many women would have, frankly,” he has said. (“I prefer quality over quantity,” Melania tells me.) Donald does his part to make things work, too. “He is a very understanding husband,” Melania once told an interviewer. “If I say, ‘I need an hour, I’m going to take a bath,’ or I’m having a massage, he doesn’t have nothing against it. He’s very supportive in that way.” She lets him have his space; she’s not “needy” or “nagging,” as she tells me."

When was that? Because Trump has been hiring women executives for quite some time now. He put a woman in charge of the construction of Trump Tower in 1980. Shrug. My husband and I had an agreement before we retired to leave work at work and enjoy our relationship, marriage, family and friends once we got home from work. I can find fault with Trump for a lot of things but that's not one of them.

Because people who already know they are pro-Trump and anti-Hillary won't be making comments when she has HER first interview with her VP pick? Or any interview? Or the debates, if there are any?
It's true...most people here have made up their minds. That doesn't mean those who have can't continue to pay attention and comment on what's happening.

oh my gosh, she's 5 ft 11 inches and 125 lbs?? ...I know some people truly believe in a separation of responsibilities in a relationship or marriage, but that marriage sounds like he's got it GOOD. (and she gets a free hour to get a massage every once in a while; how generous of him! ) eta: not talking about work in the evening is one thing but that arrangement sounds like something totally different (and over-the-top), in my opinion. ...can someone who has this kind of outlook on a woman's place in a relationship separate himself from this kind of expectation in a woman he chooses as a 'mate' and his opinions / expectations about women in politics and business?? It doesn't sound like it, from some of the comments I've heard him make about female politicians.
