My ex is on a flight to Europe and they just turned around (they were in line to take off) and went back to the gate because they got a call that a couple on board had a family who was involved in a serious accident . My ex says everyone on the plane has only been compassionate. Even though I love other countries and their people, there is truly no one like Americans for compassion.

Awww. I wouldn't mind being delayed for that either. That is so kind of everyone to be understanding and show compassion. It's also nice to know AA did that. Good for them. I hope they get some love on Twitter, etc. for it.
Sometimes they make me a little crazy (we are loyal to them and get all our miles with them, etc.) so as a result some times they make me a little grumpy. It's nice to know they will go the extra mile for someone in need.

Even though I love other countries and their people, there is truly no one like Americans for compassion Given this board has more than American members, this rubbed me up the wrong way. Especially since I read a very similiar story in April featuring a United Arab Emirates airline due to fly out of Manchester enroute to Australia. Plane is taxiing to the runway when an eldery couple get a text that their grandson is dying, the pilot turned the plane around, got the passengers off and they made it to the hospital. The grandson died later that night. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36022686

Even though I love other countries and their people, there is truly no one like Americans for compassion. i'm all about patriotism and loving my country but, unless you've lived in or witnessed some lack of compassion that is nation wide in some other country it seems like a weird statement to make an a bit offensive it probably wouldn't take much googling to find 'feel good' stories from countries all around the world i pretty sure compassion was abound in france and turkey this past week - and those are the only ones covered by US news gina

I had no idea that only Americans could be compassionate. News to me. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely story and I'm glad the airline did that, however it doesn't mean that only Americans know how to show compassion for others.

I was hoping she is related to the company somehow (proud former employee) and meant to say "American Airlines" not Americans and it is a typo not the offensive statement as it reads. I think I'm reaching though.
