That's horrible! Most of the water slides I see nowadays (e.g., Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, TX) are covered. According to the local story this is a slide installed at a private residence on Lake Travis in Austin, TX. The accident was in 1995 I think. This waterpark is still open and has never added the mesh cover like a lot of water parks have. It's under new ownership as of the end of last summer. They have been making a lot of changes, repairs, and updates but still no mesh covers. None of our open slides here have mesh covers over them.

Oh my gosh. I haven't done a water slide that wasn't enclosed with a tube in years. After seeing that, I think I'll stick to the enclosed ones forever! Heck, I was terrified enough on the last one I went down. How interesting. We have lots of water parks here and we are at one at least two or three times a week all summer. There are LOTS of open slides here. Oh, I've been to water parks that have them, I just choose not to go down them at this point in my life. I'm more comfortable with the tube slides.

I was reading the word "done" as "seen" and it made me wonder if it was a regional thing - like if there are some regions that don't have open slides anymore.

What's with the reaction from the guy filming? No expression of shock or running to help. He just makes some odd grunting and mooing sounds?

I'm glad he's okay and surprised he can take it all in stride like this, due to his injuries. I've never been down a curvy waterslide like this and probably never will now. Was he badly hurt? According to the article it says: Salmon said he was transported to a Round Rock hospital by ambulance and suffered a broken arm, fractured ribs, and lacerations across his body.

What's with the reaction from the guy filming? No expression of shock or running to help. He just makes some odd grunting and mooing sounds? It was slo-motion. I don't think it was "grunting and mooing", I'm sure it was gasps and you can clearly hear him say "f@&k". From the time he goes over the side until the camera is off is only a couple of seconds I'm sure in real time. From the movement at the end it looks like the guy is turning around to leave where he is, presumably to find his friend.

I'm sure he was trying to slow down but it looks like the unintended result was throwing his trajectory off.
I spent some time last night Google mapping the area around round rock and figured it had to be a small or private slide around travis for him to be transported to rr, but I couldn't find it.

Thank you! That makes more sense, I totally couldn't get that reaction at first.

He drops the camera (you can see a life guard stand) and swears. Then it its off.

Yes, I read it was a private residence as well.

I saw this in my news feed, but haven't watched the video. This is one of the reason I don't like waterparks. I always get some air and feel out of control. I've always feared going over the side or missing a turn. It's just not fun for me.
