Holy cow! A man was thrown from a water slide in Austin. I cant figure out how to link this video correctly, but you can see it HERE. (spoiler: he doesn't die!)

Looks like he set himself up for that when he pushed off the previous curve. He's lucky he didn't get hurt worse!

Weird that it was filming right in that spot. I guess that is why they say to keep your arms crossed.

We have a good sized waterpark here 1/2 mile from my house. In highschool a classmate went partially down a high curly slide then stopped herself and stood up to wait for a friend and when they came down they crashed into her and she went over the edge and dropped 60 feet. She lived but was paralyzed from the waist down. Horrible tragedy but shows why you shouldn't mess with the rules they post.
Eta doesn't look like he was doing anything wrong. Just caught the curve wrong.

Anyone have any idea where this is? I wasn't aware of any water parks in Austin or close to Round Rock?

Oh my gosh. I haven't done a water slide that wasn't enclosed with a tube in years. After seeing that, I think I'll stick to the enclosed ones forever! Heck, I was terrified enough on the last one I went down.

Looks like an older slide to me. And I don't see any traces of other slides or spaces nearby. The fact that the person who videotaped it was able to stand where they were makes me wonder if it built on a private residence or neighborhood facility.

As soon as I saw the caption, I thought Nooooooo!!!!! When I was younger, I did things with reckless abandon, but now that I'm older, I get fearful. When I go down an open slide like this one (and every water park I've been to has a mixture of open and tube slides), I'm fearful of this! I always think what's going to stop me from flipping over the side? Then I reassure myself that I have NEVER heard of this happening. Can't reassure myself with that anymore!
Having said all that, this does NOT look like your typical well-maintained water park. The fact that it doesn't quite look right, that someone was able to position themselves in a place to film this, and that none of the Texas peas know of a water park in Austin makes this place seem a little sketchy.
Also, I don't think this guy did anything wrong (directed to the comment about him "pushing off" at one point). The story of the girl who STOOD UP in the slide, now THAT was clearly wrong. Don't most parks wait until the first person clears before they send the next one down though?

I always wonder how this doesn't happen more often. I have been catching bits and pieces of Wild Waterparks on the Travel Channel and I always wonder what keeps people from not slipping right over the side. A few of the water parks around here are not built on a hill but up many many stairs with pavement below.

Isn't Schlitterbahn in that general area? My friends just got back from there. I know they went to Buccee's, too.

I'm not familiar with any water slides in the area either. Definitely not Schlitterbahn. When I googled a little looking for a story, I found his Facebook page where he posted it. Lots of comments asking where the slide is but no answers. WFAA out of Dallas did have the story on their web page but says it's "unclear where the slide is located".

I'm glad he's okay and surprised he can take it all in stride like this, due to his injuries. I've never been down a curvy waterslide like this and probably never will now.

Heck, I was terrified enough on the last one I went down. How interesting. We have lots of water parks here and we are at one at least two or three times a week all summer. There are LOTS of open slides here.

Looks like he set himself up for that when he pushed off the previous curve. He's lucky he didn't get hurt worse! I thought he was putting his hand on the side to try to slow down, not to push off.

I agree. He was trying to slow down. Even the news article says he was using his hand to try to slow down.

Most of the water slides I see nowadays (e.g., Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, TX) are covered. According to the local story this is a slide installed at a private residence on Lake Travis in Austin, TX.

This waterpark is still open and has never added the mesh cover like a lot of water parks have. It's under new ownership as of the end of last summer. They have been making a lot of changes, repairs, and updates but still no mesh covers.
