We had some water damage in our living room so we have been totally redoing it. While we really need the fan, I have always hated it's ugliness! My husband took it out of a house he was tearing down, many years ago. The whole makeover cost $5 for the white fan blades that I got at the Habitat For Hum anity Restore. We already had the gray paint and the vintage egg basket for the light. We both love how it turned out.

That looks awesome, it's so funny how easy it is to turn something ugly into something you love.
Wish I had before and after pics, but Dad had some wall hangings that were a gold type color, faded, etc - just ugly. I took them and spray painted them and they look awesome! My sister was amazed that all I did was take a can of spray paint to them.

How cute! Is that an old-fashioned-looking bulb you used? It looks great with the egg basket!

I love it! I'm in total DIY mode since we just bought a home last week. We've been in it for about a month but were finally able to close last Tuesday. There has been a lot of general maintenance and updating going on and on our very long project list is either replacing or refacing some ceiling fans.
Right now I am in the process of removing metal door handles and mechanisms that are a fantastic shiny gold color and spray painting them brushed nickel. I did the first one as an experiment and it turned out great. Our realtor saw it and was amazed...she said she had no idea you could do that. I figured a couple of $6 cans of spray paint was a lot cheaper than replacing all the door hardware. I'm trying to decide if I am brave enough to pull the ornate ones of our front double doors but I'm a gambler so I'll probably do it.

That's so cool! Love the egg basket on there. DH brought home an old metal double wash basin from a house he'd done some work in, and told me he wanted to put it in the garage sale our neighborhood is having soon. He thought it could be cleaned up to make a "shabby chic planter, or something..." I said, "Great idea! But instead of putting it in the garage sale, why don't you just do it for our house? I love stuff like that!" His response was --->

It looks great! Amazing what some paint will do, isn't it? Great use of the egg basket, too! I'm not sure I would've thought to paint a ceiling fan but am filing this idea away for future use.

Is that an old-fashioned-looking bulb you used? It looks great with the egg basket! I bought an Edison bulb to use in it, but it doesn't put out enough light so I bought a clear 60W bulb.
