I brush him at least once a day, but with the summer it seems to be a never ending chore! Is there anything else I can do tame the beast's hair?
Thank you!

have you had him professionally groomed? I found that the groomers got all the under coat out during season's changing and that really reduced the amount of shedding until next coat change.

I use the furminator and the furminator shampoo. It seemed to help. The problem with the shampoo is you have to let it sit on them for 10 minutes before rinsing....AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!

It also depends on what breed you have. We do not use a furminator on our breed. Our Samoyeds have a double coat and we line comb them (think lice combing). Our breed also blows their coat twice a year in addition to their normal shedding. But line combing helps to get the coat thats deep down.
And then there is our short haired German Shepherd Dog who sheds ALL.THE.TIME!

I think certain breeds are just prone to shedding. we have one such dog. however, we have made great strides in minimizing the shed by feeding her salmon based food that keeps her skin and coat in top notch condition. when we first rescued her, she could fill a vacuum with hair just by looking at it. we got her on salmon based food and her shedding reduced greatly. her skin is healthy so that she never itches or scratches herself and her fur is soft.

Get one of these? If not, then I have no advice. My dog ought to be bald based on how much of her fur that I find everywhere. (My neighbor has one of those Chinese crested dogs which is why I picked that breed.)

As papersilly mentioned, a well-conditioned skin and coat won't shed as much, but they still shed. (I give my dogs NZymes every day for their coat and general health.) BUT, they still need brushing just about every day during the summer.
gmcwife1, a friend at the dog park has Shiba Inu's and mentioned the double coat being damaged by a Furminator. A blue Zoom Groom (slightly stiffer than the red one) does an amazing job.
Lacey (Kelpie mix) hated the Furminator, loves the Zoom Groom. It's like getting a massage.

One of my coworkers raises show dogs and he was telling me about this product called "In Flight Coat Formula" it's a supplement you put on their food to stop shedding and improve the health of the dog's coat. Apparently it's a faux pas to show a shedding dog?
You have to take the dog off the supplement for 2 weeks or so every 6 months to allow them to blow their coats, but he swears by it. I considered it for a while because husky hair is a bitch, but I never got around to ordering it.

find a good groomer and have a De-Shed treatment done on your dog!! We have three Shelties (they are double-coated) and our groomers are worth every penny that we pay them. We just had all three of ours done last weekend, and one of them looks literally almost half her size, she had so much undercoat brushed out. I can only imagine how much better they must feel, having all that hair gone!! (the groomer has the proper equipment, they know what they're doing, and it is SUCH a mess with our dogs, grooming is one thing we let the experts take care of.)

They go to the groomer once a month, I groom, and sweep constantly. It's just a given to be covered in dog hair in my house. LOL!

I think you are like we are, sure we'd love to live in a hair free home, but we won't give up all the dogs give us. So brush, sweep, groom it is

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond, I apologize for my delayed reaponse. I'm not sure exactly what breeds make up Buddy, but he definitely has a thick undercoat.
I am am going to take him to a groomer next week and look into his food and brush.
Thank you again, most appreciated!
