last thursday i flew over the handlebars of my bike while in oregon on a biking vacation. a visit to the er at ohsu confirmed i had broken my wrist and i made a follow up appointment with an orthopedic surgeon as soon as we got home.
after additional x-rays i found out my radius has multiple fractures. i will be having surgery on monday to put in a plate to hold it all together and then will be in ot for a few months. i wont be able to drive for a few weeks, after that we will deal with each issue as it arises, hopefully not too many and not too bad.

My dad had a snowmobile accident that broke his wrist. He fortunately did not have to have surgery, but they had to set it a couple of different times. The break was is the exact place where there was nothing that could hold it together with surgery, so he had to have it heal on it's own. His wrist is a little misshapen and he does have limited rotation, but all in all, it healed really well. Hoping your surgery goes well and little by little you will heal with no pain.

Wishes for a successful surgery and recuperation! Work hard at physical therapy - pain then may lead to fewer problems in the future.

Oooooo! Ouch! I'm so sorry that happened. I tossed myself over the handlebars of my bike once and broke two bones in my right hand. I will count myself lucky. I am hoping for a quick recovery for you. And then get back on that horse!

Ouch! Hope you heal fairly quickly! On a related "I thought cycling was good for you" note, DS rides pretty regularly. By riding, I mean taking his 800-plus-dollar bike on trails and jumps a la extreme mountain biking (except we're in the flatlands of Houston). Last week he texted me asking me to stop off for assorted bandages "including butterflies" on the way home. I had no idea what I was coming home to. It turns out that he was going down a bike trail and someone was walking nearby playing Pokemon Go and stepped onto the trail just as he was approaching the spot. He successfully avoided the kid but slid some. He didn't even notice he was hurt until he finished his ride and was rubbing one leg with his foot because it was itching and felt moisture. He looked down and he was bleeding. Evidently his foot came off the pedal and the teeth on the pedal dug into the side of his calf. There wasn't anything TO butterfly because it gouged and scraped. He's been keeping it clean and antibiotic ointment and gauze on it and it's healing okay. I looked at it a couple of days ago and it IS healing, slowly, but now that the initial trauma swelling is gone I can see that the pedal punctured deeper than we thought. I told him he needs to stop being such a daredevil while he's still on my insurance. At least he DOES wear protective gear, but it's hard to ride in a full suit of armor.

I've been told that's a possibility Yes a little--at first it was worse and I could hardly bend my wrist. I had to have bone taken from hip to rebuild my break. Thus the plate and screws. Nerve endings zapped me randomly for about a year, and now my pain is a deep, killer ache about once a year that lasts a day or less--no rhyme or reason why that happens. Do go to the physical therapy after, do the exercises and movements they tell you to! I also had my massage therapist tend to TGAT area right after surgery and for months after. He broke up all the scar tissue and my 8" scar is smooth, and barely noticeable.
