We're starting to look at homeowner's insurance. Our cars, rental, and umbella insurance is all through state farm. I figured I'd check out some others for pricing as well to see who could give us the best coverage at the best price.
Do you go with the same? If you don't mind, who is your homeowner's insurance how did you decide?

We have all our insurance through USAA (besides some smaller supplemental life policies that are through my work). It makes things easy, and we get a considerable discount for having multiple policies through them. Plus, their service is great.

We have USAA for both. We've been very happy with them. We've had several claims with both and our rates haven't gone up.

Another USAA customer here. The only time we didn't combine the policies was when we lived on the Gulf Coast. USAA was too high due to state requirements.

State Auto....all home/car/etc together. Here, you get a discount/break for more policies with the same carrier so we have pretty much stuck with having them all together.

We have everything with State Farm, with the exception of my husband's life insurance policy.

We had everything together (car, rental/homeowners) for over 20 years. When we moved, our new complex requires a lower deductible than State Farm offered (don't ask), so I had to call around for new rates. I compared auto rates while I did that to see if it made sense to keep them all together, but in the end, our auto rates through State Farm were still the lowest of the companies I called, so I just moved our rental policy to the new company (Amica).
Of course, once DD gets her license, I'll be shopping around all over again, because I doubt State Farm will have the best rates to offer us at that point. I'm not looking forward to making those calls! LOL!

We do not. The reason is that we have farm property that has to be insured (it's separate from our house property). In order to get insurance for the farm property we had to have insurance on our house with the same company. Our car and life insurance policies are through State Farm. They do not offer farm insurance in the state of Maryland. So our house and farm property insurance are different policies with Bretherern Mutual.

Yes, through AAA. I had State Farm until recently when I got a letter saying they were no longer working with the broker who sold me the policy. No one from State Farm contacted me to offer another direct policy and the previous broker didn't call me until I was already set up with AAA. And that was 3 weeks after the State Farm policy expired! If any of them wanted me as a client, all they had to do was offer me an insurance package before my policy expired. I will never use that broker again because he wasn't on the ball, but I also was not impressed with State Farm due to how it was handled. In the letter, they explained twice that this was through no fault of my own and that I was not being dropped for cause. I think they should have told me the broker was out and offered to have an approved company representative set me up with another State Farm policy. The odd thing was, this was just on my house and umbrella policies. They still covered my car, which was done by the same broker as the house. I had to cancel the auto policy with them to get a better packaged deal through AAA. I never had a claim with State Farm, so I can't speak to how they handle that.

Yes we have it all through State Farm. When we moved a few years ago we got quotes from Allstate and USAA and State Farm was quite a bit less for comparable coverage. We really like our local agent.

Same - State Farm. How I decided. LDH already had his home, truck and motorcycle insured with them. I liked the agent and the office staff. Inspiring, right?

No, we use 2 different companies.
Home insurance - We have a local office we use for our homeowners, and they sell Nationwide, so that's what we have. We decided to pick a company that had a local office because it was important to us to have the availability. When we first picked them, they were the only office that would help us cover our mobile home, because many offices/companies won't cover them in this area, on their own lot, in the area we were living. They would flat out just say no. This office was extremely helpful. The mobile home insurance company was some unknown company I don't remember, but it was really the only one we could find that would cover us and they were great to help us out. Once we built our house they helped us out with construction insurance and then when the house was build switched our policy to through Nationwide. They've been nothing but extremely helpful so we haven't looked around to switch, it just isn't an option for me because customer service is extremely important to me. We've had them for 10 years, since the construction of our house.
We use GEICO for our auto - again for customer service - I have been with them going on 18 years now. We had to file claims a few times for accidents/body shop and they were incredibly easy to work with, and billing is always extremely easy with them.
I do use State Farm, but only to cover my jewelry. I have had the policy for years from when I had an apartment/rental coverage policy and then when we bought the house I just transitioned to make it just a jewelry and those type of items policy. I don't deal with them at all other than paying the policy each month.

Nope. A lot of home insurance companies won't insure homes the age of mine. Initially, the only insurance I *could* get was through the state backed insurance fund. After all the hurricanes that hit that one year, the fund had issues and a lot of the policies that were the least risky were sold off. The only problem was that the big insurers wouldn't touch us. So I have a policy through a company that I can never remember the name of.
Car insurance is through State Farm. For a good while after the hurricanes State Farm wouldn't even write homeowners policies here.

We have home insurance with Farm Bureau and all auto policies with State Farm. We have discussed consolidating them. We've also considered though that having established accounts with two different companies might be an advantage if either ever cancelled us. We've never had a significant claim on either, but I know too many people whose insurance companies have dropped them after they make a big claim -- or after a catastrophic event locally (like our "1,000 year flood" event last October). Of course, once DD gets her license, I'll be shopping around all over again, because I doubt State Farm will have the best rates to offer us at that point. I had State Farm when my three older boys started driving. They offer a discount if the kids keep a log book of supervised driving (some sort of safe driving program they have - can't remember the name) and for good grades as well.

My husband had been with State Farm for a long time for his car. I had Country Companies (Farm Bureau member from way back, because of my family) for car and renters' coverage.
We got married and built a house right away. We looked a couple times at what to do, because there are discounts for having more than one policy with the same company. But, we each also had discounts from being longtime policy holders with good claims records, both of us were happy with the customer service and response when we did have claims, and neither of us wanted to switch. And it would have meant one of us spending more initially on car insurance to switch since we wouldn't have gotten as much in multiple car coverage as we had in other discounts, at least until several years had passed.
We ended up going with Country Companies to insure the house, so we get some discount for having the house AND my car with the same company. And we have extra riders for my wedding/engagement rings, electronics and the stained glass piece on our living room wall.
I do think someone else made a good point about having good records with two companies, just in case something happens with one.

Yes everything is through State Farm.
But I just lately have been thinking it's time to shop around and see if $ can be saved elsewhere.
