I've been in the midst of moving from AZ to FL. Lots of work and lots of stress. I am trying to set up my craft room so it is really nice. I had a poster from a Nancy Drew convention I had kept in pristine condition since 2005 and decided to get it framed. i took in my coupons to J's...50% off plus an extra 30% off. This thing is 20" x 15" and I chose a 2" plain mat with the cheapest white frame. $159...supposedly $425 if I hadnt had coupons. I was shocked but tired and just said OK. Going to take two weeks. Today I went to pick it up and noticed a smudge...then a whole bunch of smudges. They had framed it with the glass being dirty. They refer to the non glare glass as museum quality glass...duh. The sales clerk says she will take it all apart and clean the glass, reassemble it and then call me in two days. I am disgusted as it is quite a drive to get to the store and I cant believe someone in their framing department would be so careless. I will never have another thing framed there. I am still shocked at the cost.

Sadly framing is expensive no matter whee you go-especially for non-standard sizes.
I hope you let the department manager know about the poor quality workmanship.

I think framing is a rip off no matter where you go, but especially at the big box stores.
For non standard sizes, just have a mat cut instead. Cost is under $10 and Michael's and Hobby Lobby will do it while you wait.

How annoying! I would have complained loud and clear. Good luck with your move, that is a huge change.
When you get time, please tell us about a Nancy Drew convention. I loved those books!

Talk to the manager and nicely explain how their carelessness cost you a lot of extra time. Then ask to be compensated and tell her what you expect.

I'd tell them to never mind. Go to the pre made frames and find the closest size to what you want. Get a mat cut to fit the poster and the frame and put it together yourself. Amazon even has 15x20" and 17x22" frames. Michaels has a lot of poster frames in different sizes and different quality.
I honestly don't know that I will ever pay to have something frames ever again.

That stinks. I hope you decide to speak with the manager about it. It would be nice if they compensated you in some way.
I'd also like to hear about the Nancy Drew Convention. It sounds like it would be neat.

I wish I could do that. I have a HUGE map...like 40somethingx50something, and there are no frames even close, unless we cut the white off around it, but we can't find a professional framing place that would cut it for us, and I'm afraid to screw it up.

I knew all about getting the mat cut and putting it together myself. But i wanted this to look very professional as this poster...which celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first Nancy Drew which was published in 1930...is fairly valuable amonst Nancy collectors...that is why I kept it in pristine condition. Plus, I am determined that my new craft room is going to look great...no more plastic shelves and folding tables. I will post info about Nancy Drew collectors later...there are yearly conventions, sleuth gatherings, a great website, facebook group and lots of research being done. Nancy was one of the biggest influences in my life growing up.

Loved Nancy Drew as a kid! Very careless of the framing department. You should be compensated somehow for the inconvenience.
