no-- something you put on your skin will not make bones heal faster.

You can't heal bones topically, though I am sure you will find several essential oil salespeople that will tell you that you can!

Do not take anything that is not expressly approved by your physician. Even topical things can have an effect systemically. Not going off on my EO diatribe today. Just know that the answer is a big fat no.

well, see melissa that's what i thought. But i have a friend who is trying to tell me, and sending me links to tons of testimonials, that eo's can help with healing and scar tissue issues. i scar badly so that intrigued me. a big keloid scar on the surface is not appealing, problems from internal scar tissue even less so. she also sells them so of course has a vested interest in convincing me. on the other hand if they won't cause harm im not opposed to trying anything hence research.

I have yet to meet anyone who sells EOs who has a sufficient background to offer medical advice. Understanding that these have some medicinal properties is one thing, not understanding those effects and interactions, to say nothing of dosing, is another... and a larger issue. Of course, some of it is nothing. I'd consider betting money that she has no understanding of osteoclast and osteoblast function, nor how they work synergistically. Without that and without a full understanding of inflammation at the cellular level, and knowing what you'd be taking for pain, etc, her help would only be helpful to her own wallet.

Speak to your surgeon about your keloids and what they recommend.

Only use for EOs after surgery is to use them in a diffuser. Some oils help me relax. Could be in my head but but I enjoy the fragrance.

As for the scar, do a little research on scar away strips. PTguy recommended them to my husband. He used them on his knee replacement scar and it had healed nicely. The scar away strip kept clothing from catching on the scar.

I don't believe that EO's will help speed up healing, but there are things that will help with scar itch/fading like Aquafor or vitamin E- just ask your doctor first. When I had foot surgery I bought vitamin E capsules, poked them with a pin, and rubbed the oil on the scar. Honestly, I'm not sure if it helped or not but the scars are nearly invisible.

I read here to put aquaphor on my surgery scar but my dr said not to put anything on it. He freaked out on me a little when I mentioned the aquaphor. So my scar still looks pretty freaky but maybe it would even with aquaphor.

I love the smell of Balance in my diffuser. That's all I would use my essential oils for. I have used Deep Blue on sore muscles. It smells the same as Salompas or Ben Gay or A535 Rub and they work. That's the only time I put an essential oil on my skin.
