My daughter is 13 and just started having problems with mild acne, so we're looking for a skincare regimen to help combat this. I've heard good and bad things about Proactiv. Any experiences with it or other recommendations?

Is she faithfully washing her face before bed every night? I'd start there before I jumped to proactiv
DS just uses a wash made for the face. It is in a purple bottle.

Hi All of my girls used noxema every night before bed. In the am they just rinsed their face with water and put on some sunscreen moisturizer. Once a week they do a face mask and my girls will maybe get a pimple once a month right before their period.
I've tried to teach them that less is more and it seems to have stuck.

My daughter uses the Proactive face wash. She has tried many products over the years and this she swears by. It's the only thing that clears her acne.
I buy it on Amazon.

We've tried Proactiv (or rather the teen version, X-Out) and didn't find it any more effective than the stuff they get at Target. Both of mine are currently using some kind of Biore charcoal pore-cleansing thing that causes them to leave black streaks all over the sink. They've also used Neutrogena, Garnier and a handful of other brands.

I wish I could get my 15 yo to learn the importance of good skin care!!!! She doesn't want to hear it! Even the dermatologist laid her out but for whatever reason she just won't take the advice. I think her issues are beyond over the counter however I am hesitant for her to take an oral rx but the dr did give her a topical but she won't use it. She only uses these small trial tubes that she should have used up within a month of the appointment 2 yrs ago. I can't seem to get it through her head that the redness may never go away. Now that she uses makeup, she is really good at covering it up but that may be fun now but not forever.

Plus, make sure to change her pillowcase more often, particularly if she sleeps on her side or stomach. Yesterday DS mentioned he was going to jump in the shower because his hair felt gross, and I reminded him that he had been lying on his pillow earlier while reading, so whatever was making his hair feel gross to him was now on his pillow, too. We bought her a Clarisonic when she turned 12, and she's very good about using it. Even so, she's got a chin full of pimples. I have reminded her that she's got to keep her sheets and pillowcases clean to help her face clear and to drink lots of water. She's been using CeraVe face wash, but I don't think it's tackling the acne well.

A good simple cleanse, tone (removes residual cleanser, but not necessary if using a wash/foam type product) and moisturise routine is important. Good overall cleanliness will help so no picking/scratching spots because that won't help. Acne is pretty much hormone controlled but keep her pores clear, drinking lots of water. The right moisturiser is important too because some products can cause the top layer to dry out which will facilitate bacteria entering the skin. It just needs to be the right type of moisturiser. Moisture and oil/grease are not the same thing and an acne skin can still be dry.

I've recently started using Dermalex Acne for my chin breakouts, it's a light cream that doesn't dry out the skin and after three weeks my skin looks so much better. I use it twice a day. DermalexI've never found that things like drinking lots of water, changing pillow cases etc made the slightest bit of difference to my breakouts.

Those sort of things don't cure what's happened already but can help to prevent it being worse, cross contamination etc.
