I think there is still plenty of time for the Sanders supporters to come around.

I'm in Virginia and he is very popular and well-liked here. This will sway my DH to vote for Hillary (he was a Bernie or bust guy).

I just watched a lengthy interview of him on C-Span that was taped in June, and I must say I am very impressed with him. I knew nothing about him before.
I certainly think it is a much better choice than Trump made.

I think he's a great choice. He's been a mayor, a governor, and is currently a senator. He serves on the foreign relations committee. He's got buckets of experience and is well-liked here in VA by both Dems and Independents (not sure how he fares with Republicans). In terms of using her VP choice as an example of how she will govern, I think this bodes well - he is an excellent choice. He could easily step in as President and would be highly qualified to do so. He will be a trusted and vetted ally and advisor with no skeletons in his closet. He might be safe, but he's a good, solid, likable guy. And let's face is - there's little she could have done to turn around those die-hard Bernie or Busters who just don't believe her to be progressive enough. She needs to attract independent and especially white male voters, and Kaine is an excellent way to get their attention.

While I've heard of Kaine - which imo is a plus in itself, given I'm Canadian - I don't recall much about him. My biggest issue is getting the Bernie supports on board.... in that sense I was hoping for Bernie himself. That said, I admit I don't know quite enough about the American psyche/voting population to know if that would even work to get the Bernie folks onside.

I would have liked Julian Castro, too, but now he's tied to some kind of scandal, and it's not like he was ever going to deliver Texas for her. Kaine is probably the safer pick. I could search, but am feeling lazy , what scandal is he tied to? ETA I don't know enough about Kaine to have an opinion yet, but am reassured that those in his home state are happy with the choice.
