Last night DD 18 somehow slipped and face planted on the tile floor. Her two front teeth are pushed back and badly chipped at the bottom edge. Of course on a Friday night the dentists are closed and ER couldn't help so we are at the emergency dentist this morning.
No nerve damage yet, although she is not completely out of the woods there. They will recheck again in 2 weeks but no root canal today. They are putting brackets on to stabilize the front teeth and repairing the chipped off edge.
Poor baby. She starts college in less than a month now with braces again and potentially a root canal coming up.
Oh, and the dentist isn't in network, and they can't figure out today what the insurance will cover. So I just said "fix her" and figure we will file with the insurance later.
Sigh.

I feel lightheaded reading that - your poor girl.
That is my WORST nightmare, I have literally dreamed that for years. Ugh!
I hope she's just fine and feeling better soon.

Freshman year of college my niece passed out and they think hit the bathroom door with her face before falling to the ground.
*Disclaimer* no, there were no drugs or alcohol in her system. It was during a morning class and she started to feel ill, so she went to the bathroom. Luckily it was a small enough class that when she had been gone for a while the professor sent a friend after her who found her covered in blood on the floor. They *think* she has slightly low blood sugar and hadn't eaten that morning. Since then she eats when she wakes up and has had no issues.
She ended up with I think all front top four with root canals and caps. They are so pretty and you honestly can't tell, so hopefully the same will work for your daughter. BUT, it was extremely pricey. And by extremely, I think it was over $10,000. (My sister works for a dentist who did all the work. They don't have dental insurance, he does things for cost instead, so that was out of pocket.)

No drugs or alcohol involved. She was in the kitchen with DS 13 making tea. He thinks she spilled some as she turned and then slipped. He saw the whole thing and got her towels, ice, cleaned up the blood, etc. DH and I were gone and she called and texted us and a family friend came to check on her and keep her company until we got home. We figured she was going to be ok when she was texting us in complete sentences with proper punctuation.

I was clarifying it for my niece since she was in college at the time.

Glad your niece had a good outcome, hopefully DD will as well!

The rule is that the dentist is NEVER in the network. Your poor daughter. So sorry.

Oh, my goodness. What a lousy bit of luck for her and especially right before leaving for college. I hope the outcome for her turns out to be easy.

Oh my gosh, poor dd. I cringed while reading your post.
While in high school, my brother was playing tennis and dove for a shot. The tennis racquet hit the court and came up, breaking off his two front teeth. He had to have two emergency root canals - on a Saturday - on my mom's birthday. The teeth are capped and he hadn't had any issues since.
Best wishes.
(eta- he did have to give up playing saxophone in band and switched to drums.)

I passed out after a hot shower and the first thing I remembered upon waking up was feeling my teeth being broken. The front two basically were arches of a giant chip.
My mother in law is a hygienist and fortunately her dentist determined that the teeth were viable (and still are). He was able to bond them a few days later (amazingly). We know that in the future I could need two root canals, but I have a night guard to protect them for a few years.
I still have dreams about them getting chipped again. It's pretty traumatizing. We are thrilled our best friend just became a prostodontist and can hopefully design new caps in the distant future. Will cost a fortune, but oh well!
