Good morning ladies!! Happy Weekend!! We're off to watch the NE Revs game tonight and my girls are walking in the Parade of Champions, something they get to do for winning the Memorial Day Championship! It's going to be hotter than the sun (95) but I'm sure we'll enjoy it!! Eating and exercise is still going great. We ordered pizza last night but I had about a 1" tiny sliver and then ate taco salad. I know tonight will not be great eating because we're eating at the stadium but I've planned accordingly and will eat light the rest of today and tomorrow. My period showed up again last night (this makes 4 times in the last 2 months). It's annoying as hell but I know eventually it'll even out like normal. Makes me happy that the scale has been down even with the PMSing and everything this past week. But it's a total PITA to have to carry supplies into the stadium when you can't bring in a purse. Thankfully, my dh is a gem and will carry what I need in his cargo pocket. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and get the chance to relax! Keep up the hard work ladies!! We're already halfway through the year and we're all still going strong! I LOVE that!!

Have a great time brandy327!!! And sorry about the period. That is the worst. Hubby and I walked the dogs very early this morning to beat the heat. I just want to stay indoors. The doggies are down for a nap so I am checking in then painting. Dinner is grilled pork chops tonight and grilled burgers tomorrow. Hubby grills on the weekends so that is awesome! Enjoy and stay cool everyone!

on the heat! We have 94 degrees with a "feels like" of 104! I walked our dog at 6:00 a.m. this morning and it was already awful. Poor thing, not only does she have a lot of hair (she's part border collie) but she's also black. So I'm staying in a working on my kitchen, and getting rid of books. I have two small bookshelves in the bedroom where books have accumulated, but a lot of them aren't anything I really want to keep. I pick them up for .25 cents at yard sales, or the library book sale room, etc. But happily my neighborhood just put in a Little Free Library at the park up the street so now I have a great place to dump all these books. I usually take a bunch with me when we rent a beach house in the summer and just leave them there, but we're not going this summer due to dd's knee surgery. brandy327 Why can't you bring in a purse? Well, I'm sure the answer is "security"....so do they search everyone's pockets also? I saw a great jacket in the Travelsmith catalogue once, it's intended for travelers to avoid taking carry-on bags. It has pockets EVERYWHERE. lol. I might try to wear that to a stadium where I wasn't allowed to bring anything in. hehehehe And... hysterectomy = Best. Thing. That. Ever. Happened. To. Me. (maybe second to the birth of my kids) Seriously. Patter, What are you painting? Rooms? or art painting? I was going to go to the gym today but I'm not sure I want to even walk across the parking lot to get to the door. Yeah, sounds like a good excuse. Wishing for fall.....

monklady123, we walked the dogs at 7 a.m., and that was not a good choice. Hubby has them outside right now in their kiddie pool. It is horrible out there but they have to run and play. And just art painting. We have parrots so the house does not get painted unless they are not here for some reason. And my carpal tunnel doesn't handle painting rooms/walls well anyway. Ouch! I let the professionals do it. LOL!

Hey gals. Everything is going well here. Last night DH and I went to Fort Worth (over an hour from our house) to buy a car and then made an evening of it. We went to a wine bar, had a couple of drinks and a charcuterie/cheese plate, then walked around the area and found somewhere to eat dinner. I tracked everything and stayed right at my maximum on calories/carbs for the day, but with 2 glasses of wine that is pretty good! Of course, I weigh-in at WW on Saturday mornings, so that helped me stay focused, haha. It was a nice evening. The charcuterie plate included almonds, which I have always thought I didn't like. But let's get serious, the majority of my almond experience is in trail mix, LOL! You know those aren't high-quality almonds, plus they are just sort of hard and annoying in trail mix. However, these almonds were really good, and they weren't prepared any special way - just lightly salted, I think. I think I'll have to get a small thing of high-quality almonds, because they are really low carb and have a good amount of fat. Dietary fat is something I have to make sure I get enough of (I eat a lot of chicken/turkey/lean ham, reduced fat dairy, etc) and I feel better when I eat more, so almonds will be a good addition. Plus they travel so easily, and I'm always looking for things that are widely available in airports/gas stations/small packs. Nuts definitely are an item you have to be careful with, since they add up fast, but the almonds were good/enjoyable but not OMG SO GOOD that I felt like I'd eat a ton. I went to water aerobics after WW this morning, and the Saturday instructor runs almost like a water boot camp. She is by far the most intense of the instructors. My legs cramp up by the end of the class if I'm not careful. Most classes have us exercise somewhat independently, doing different moves to our level of fitness and not really interacting. This instructor makes it much more interactive - she usually starts us out running laps around the pool, varying the intensity every 20 - 30 seconds. We'll get a whirlpool going and then she has us turn and run against the current, and let me tell you - it is STRONG. I am tall, and that current can almost take me under if I'm in the deepest part of the pool (about 4'6" I think). She'll have us turn and run with no arms against the current, then get another whirlpool going and turn and use only arms to fight the current (WHAT A JOKE, NO ONE CAN DO THIS), etc. She has us do stations in the pool with lots of jumping, we line up on the edges of the pool and kick really vigorously while people run/swim through the middle lane, so it is very very choppy, etc. It is a good class but very intense. I'm glad it is not like that every day. I still get a good workout with the other instructors, but they are more fun, include music, etc. It also isn't as difficult to go at your own pace. Since there is such a mix of ages/fitness levels, you have to pass people/be passed when running the pool and that is quite challenging/awkward. Lots of splashing in her class too, and I really dislike getting water in my eyes. Still, super fun! Water aerobics is only offered Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat (and Friday is only at 9 AM, so if my work schedule isn't flexible that day, I can't do Friday), so I try to do Zumba or regular swimming/my own aerobics in the pool to get a total of 5 days a week of "formal" exercise. I probably already posted this, but this blog is awesome, and one of the things she preaches is that most people can lose pretty well without exercise, but she has found in her practice that to maintain long-term, exercise is key. That definitely rings true for me, so I'm trying to start now (not to mention all the other health benefits!! That's actually my primary motivation). Checking in! Had some surgery on Thursday. Feeling better today, finally! Was surprised at how much surgery on a finger can hurt, but it makes sense with all those nerve endings. Will have results mid-week. Curious and a little concerned but it didn't look like what it should have looked like. I can start cardio again this coming week. We will be on traveling, so it will be a challenge. No water aerobics for me! That class sounds like a blast, AN! No getting my hand wet for sometime. No weight on my hands either which means no OTF. Hoping I can squeeze in my last session in 2 weeks. I did 7 out of the 8 I pay for in the 2 weeks before. My weight drifted up another pound. Hope it is just do to the surgery, the IVs and the effects of the narcotics. Ugh. Hate that they shut my system down. I only took a total of 3 low dose narcotics afterwards but that was more than enough! LOL.. yeah laughing now.

My eating has been off since early this week. My daughter wanted buffalo wild wings on Wedneday (my favorite, that I've been avoiding)I looked up the points when I got home, and it's 30 sp for just a snack size. I most definitely had more than the snack size. The three of use shared a large and had some leftover which I finished after I got home from work that evening. And then polished off about 4 homemade choc chip cookies.
But, on the upside I've walked every morning and made it a goal to get at least my 10K steps in. Tomorrow I am having a birthday party for my youngest. I have some healthy options on board but I struggle with family get togethers. Weigh in is on Tuesday so I think that will keep me in check.

Good evening! @brandy hope you are enjoying the game! melissa hope you are feeling better soon. I'm sure the extra lb is due to the stress and effects of the surgery, as you speculate. AN I definitely have to be careful with nuts. I should just stop buying them. I seriously think I'm addicted to raw cashews. I'm struggling today. My eating this week has been so good. No grains, very little sugar (only a little in one of the sauces that I used), met my protein and carb goals. I even stayed strong last night at the potluck. Of course I weighed myself this morning and haven't lost anything. I was discouraged and for some reason let myself eat two cookies that got sent home with us from the party. Ugh. We went grocery shopping but since we got home I have been exhausted. Partly because we were out late last night, but I'm sure part of it is because of the sugar. It was definitely a reminder that I feel like crap when I eat sugar, especially if I haven't eaten anything else. So, I have gotten nothing done today. I am going to bed early and hoping that I wake up with more energy. I am also expecting my period soon so that is not helping, either. Back to healthy eating tomorrow and I am going to try to keep myself off the scale for at least two weeks since it seems to derail me.

Hi all -
Sounds like all of us are living in a furnace right now. It was close to 100 here today.
My best friend and I went over to the coast to do some hiking. We took my oldest and his GF - she is such a brat! She knew we were hiking, I have told her twice that the hike was steep, she is totally aware of the fact that this wasn't a little nice stroll. She showed up in flip flops, white (super tight) jeans shorts and a crop shirt. I was like WHAT?!?! So they had to go back and get shoes for her and she shows back up in converse with no socks. We drive over there (2 hours), we start the hike, she carries her Michals Kors purse on the hike, they have no water (it was 90 degrees). She had to stop every few minutes cause her feet hurt - they finally made it to the top almost an hour after us. At the top of the trail there is a big oak tree with a wooden swing. She started pouting because she was too sweaty to have "a good picture' of her on the swing.
I was so done with her today!
The hike for me was great but next time she isn't invited.
I got home to BBQ chicken and a cucumber/tomato salad DH had prepared. Yummy!
Today is also my first day of maintenance on WW. That means I get an additional 5 smart points a day. I'm very worried I'm going to gain weight so I'm not going into this too positive. I will give it a couple weeks and see how I do.

melissa, praying the results turn out well and that recovery goes smooth from here on out. Sorry you are going through this! AN, I have never, ever tried water aerobics but I would LOVE to. They don't offer it at our country club. There is a fitness center but we just have an outdoor pool, and they don't do water aerobics. I may need to talk to someone about hiring an instructor. I want to do it so badly. We also may put in a pool on our extra land. Then I guess I can do it at home myself. Was at the ER vet with one of the dogs last night. He had an allergic reaction but is thankfully okay now. I cried a lot as it brought back way too many memories of having our other dog there on May 4th when he passed. I still feel like I have been hit by a truck this morning. But I will try to walk the other dogs and make our day "normal."

Patter, I'm glad your dog is better. Those vet ER visits are awful! iamkristinl16, sugar does the same to me. I had a small piece of apple pie yesterday and really felt it. I've been cutting WAY back on processed sugar and so it was a shock to the system. I've always been ultra sensitive to sugar. I'm going to get outside in a little bit and do some walking. Not only did I not walk yesterday, I also ate poorly. I didn't feel great last night and it was a good and painful reminder of how much better I feel when I take care of myself. Happy Sunday to all.

I was going to go to the gym today but I'm not sure I want to even walk across the parking lot to get to the door. Yeah, sounds like a good excuse. Wishing for fall..... Yes, it's for security. You're allowed a 12x12" clear plastic bag - which dh bought at the Fan Shop simply because he'd brought one of his good cameras to the game and he wanted it in case it rained. Security is so tight, they actually made me remove the lens from the camera when I walked through security. All I could think was "do you know how upset my dh will be if there's dust on the sensor because I had to take the lens off?" But I respect why they ask and did it without complaint. So technically you CAN bring things in, just no bags that aren't clear. They turn people away left and right making women take their purses back to their cars. We've been to Gillette a few times so we knew this going in. Typically my periods are pretty regular and aren't horrible. But I just had a new birth control implant put in a couple of months ago and it takes a few months to get back into the right cycle. Until then, I deal with periods every couple of weeks. It sucks but in the long run, it's worth it.

AN Wow!! That sounds SUPER fun!! I'm glad you've found something that you love!! melissa I hope for good news with your hand and hope you recover quickly from here on out! needmysanity First of all I have to say the side by side pic you posted on IG? Holy cow - you look so small!! Congrats on all your hard work! And secondly, I'd be SO irritated with your ds's gf. That's just ignorance. WTH wears flip flops to a hike? Glad you didn't wait around for her. Today is food prep day. And it's going to be hot again. So it's pretty much going to suck. LOL BUT I've got my momentum going again and I know one of the reasons I'm successful is due in part to the food prep. Sooooo, I'm going to be making a bunch of stuff for the week. But it'll be nice this week to not have to make dinners again. Official weigh in is tomorrow and I'm looking at a loss, hopefully. If you remember, I was up 4 lbs last weigh in because of vacation (I was back up over 200 lbs). I'm ready to break out of this 198-200 range...I really want to get below 195 soon. Have a great Sunday ladies!!

Ds and I are finally home. 4 days of baseball in 90+ degree heat and high humidity. It was brutal, but he never complained. He just adores playing ball. Wii or lose he is happy. I love that about him.
Today is day one of reigning my food intake back in. I am ready for some clean eating. My system needs it. Lol. Hopefully the weather will cool down this next week. Not sure how I will run if it doesn't.
I am going to take dd shopping for some girl time. She did not travel with me last week, so I am really missing her.
This is my last week before I go back to school. Aghhh. I am so not ready.
***quick question. What happened to carblover? I saw a vague reference in. Another thread about her BIL and her. Hopefully she is okay. The town we were in has no cell reception. It was like being a pioneer. Lol!

I'm not working much this summer, but once fall arrives I'll be back at both the hospital and substitute teaching, so I need to revise my dinner time routine. The pressure cooker will definitely help with that but I know I need a plan. And if things could be prepped ahead of time that would be good. I'm planning to go to the grocery store later today so I want to think now about meals for next week. And, the reason I'm going grocery shopping on a Sunday afternoon even though I'm home and free during the week is that I'm sick and tired of hauling BAGS AND BAGS of groceries in from the car by myself! ugh in this heat. Poor dd is still laid up on the couch from her knee surgery so she obviously can't help, and dh and ds are at work all day during the week. So I'm going today and will have dh and ds haul it all in. Aren't I smart?

I'm in a phase where I see myself and think "that isn't me, I'm still fat". It's something that I need to work through but it's hard when you have had body image issues your whole life. Even when I was in high school and a competitive swimmer by mom would say things like "you could loose 10 pounds". I couldn't...I really couldn't but she had horrible image issues and was reflecting her insecurity onto me. Yesterday was a huge deal for me because after we did the hike we went into San Luis Obispo for lunch. SLO is an awesome funky college town where everyone is fit! I went in what I was wearing and I wasn't self conscious. I was proud of how I looked and that's a big deal for me. Right now it's 2 steps forward, 1 step back with that image thing....
I'm heading out to run. My goal is 4 miles but my legs are a big tired after tomorrow. After that it's grocery store, laundry, hair cuts for DS, cleaning, family dinner - super busy Sunday.

Good morning. I wish it was still Saturday. There are a lot of things I wanted to get done this weekend that didn't. I need to do some cleaning and also want to get some food prepped for the week. We are going to grill tonight so we will make extra meet for the week. I'm also going to make some veggies for the week and see how that goes. Last week I did pretty well with eating, but I need more choices for lunch this week. I will probably also make some egg muffins and hard boiled eggs as well.
Right now I'm going to clean the living room so I can do a workout and then will get on with the rest of the day.

Hello! Hot heat wave in my part of the world as well. I do not function well in the humidity at all plus it just makes me cranky, lol. We had a birthday party to go to yesterday and I was looking forward to the party but it was outdoors and just in a funk about the heat. It ended up raining, thunder, lightening and lowered the air temp at least 15 degrees! Everyone had a great time despite the rain. Dinner was make your own nachos and hot dogs, fruit and of course cake. So I was able to have a taco salad type plate and fruit plus the tiniest bite of cake. The good news is that cake hasn't changed since I ate it last so I was satisfied with one bite.
Reintroduction has been tough for me as our schedules are pretty unpredictable. Yesterday was beans/peanuts. I had some black beans with lunch but not at dinner. It's okay if it takes longer, as long as I'm not going off the deep end and eating everything at one time. I'll have some more black beans today.
And peanuts and I are breaking up... at least for now. They are such a trigger food for me and until the last month I can say with 100% certainty that I have eaten some form of peanuts every couple days since I was very young. It has become a comfort food for me and I haven't ever been successful in limiting my portions without some actual pouting! So I think it is best to maintain my ban for now.
I go to the Doc Tuesday morning. Total dread. My doctor is encouraging in my weight loss and not a pill pusher but one of my goals was to lessen or eliminate my need for blood pressure pills. It's not my doctors fault that I have a family history of high BP and that I pushed the issue along with my weight... But she has been the one who has to give me the bad news every so often that I need the pills. Of course I am not interested in living with side effects of untreated high BP, so I take the pills. She helpfully reminded me in January that "even thin people have high blood pressure". Lol.
My husband is playing golf in this crazy heat so I am home alone today for the afternoon. Peace and quiet :-)

I woke up with a crazy wicked headache. I didn't eat anything weird yesterday, got lots of exercise, drank a ton of water to rehydrate and went to bed at a decent hour. Well now I see why I have a headache. It doesn't take an MD after my name to figure this one out. Think female and I have my answer. I have coerced my old gym buddy to go to the rec centre with me tomorrow for something to do. She isn't much into it but we both need to go. So she is going and so am I. I think she is bringing her daughter, too. I hope it isn't too warm outside. We aren't very mobile in the morning but that might be the best time to go before it gets too hot. Today I might just take it easy and relax. Or if it's not too hot I could go for a good, long walk. I will decide later. It's too early for decisions now. Eating yesterday was very good after the disaster on Friday. My son is home for the weekend and I won't see him until the end of August now so I am enjoying my time with him. (Which was all of dinner Friday and Saturday nights). He is heading to Japan at the end of August as well to spend time with his dad for a couple of weeks and then will start his apprenticeship. Working 3 days a week is a lot sometimes. The work is very activity intense at times. OR I just can't handle standing still. I need to be moving all the time or sitting. It's fun and the people are great so that's a real plus. I am working an extra 4 hours on the next two Tuesdays so that will be ok I hope. I had my shifts changed from 7 hours to 5 hours. That is more doable for me. 7.5 hour shifts were too long and my feet hurt too much. This is much better

Doing better today. If I ever have surgery again, someone please remind me to be pro-active about the effects of narcotics and anesthesia! Oy!!! Let's just say I lost 2 pounds along this morning and I am sure that won't be the end of it. I am very grateful that we are breaking up the drive to our hotel into 2 blocks- 3 hours today and 3 tomorrow. Hope you get good news at your appointment, mrsp. I'm the same with lipids and diabetes. I watch my hemoglobin A1C rise even when I lose weight. Despite popular lay opinion, even skinny people who do not eat carbs can develop type 2 diabetes. TankTop, carblover deleted her account. She had posted a line from an invitation to a bday party for her BIL and 1 yr old nephew that said something like "you f'in b##s, you better come because we are going to get drink." She mentioned that she was dreading this party. BIL was alerted by another pea and called her out. She deleted her account in response. He's obviously a classy gentleman. I hope she makes a new account.

I hope she makes a new account. Great. And here I am working to LOSE weight because my doctor told me my A1C was a bit high. Darn doctors. -- Melissa, hopefully you know I'm just kidding since I know you are a doctor. I love mine, and anyway A1C aside I DO need to lose some weight. Hopefully I'll be one whose levels go down once I lose the weight. -- And those narcotics sure are something. My dd just had knee surgery (well, four weeks ago) and she took the heavy duty pain meds for about three days. She said they made her feel awful and she was SO glad to graduate to Advil. So we have most of the bottle of 60 pills leftover. Then the doctor prescribed ANOTHER narcotic, "less powerful" he said, for when she started physical therapy. We filled that since we didn't know better, but she's never used a single one. Now we have those leftover too! sheesh. I'm assuming I'm not supposed to just throw them away. Guess I need to ask the pharmacist if I can turn them back in. -- Well, hopefully you're feeling better soon.

Have no fear... most people drop their HgbA1C as the pounds drop, esp if they watch carbs. My lipids do drop when I work out regularly and eat better, so I know something works right in my body! On the other hand, my sister is over 100 lbs over weight, possibly as much as 200 (I should say was) and never has had issues with her lipids, but she has flirted with diabetes and was closer to it than me. She did see an improvement with weight loss. So proud of her! She started working out and is taking various weight/resistance classes and kickboxing! She's been slowly losing weight for several months now.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. I had my first official morning weigh-in in over a month and I'M SO FRICKIN' HAPPY! I had a 3.6 lb loss and in the next weight decade! I know part of it is due to weighing in the morning, but it has done wonders for my mindset. I could rationalize the increased weight due to evening weigh-ins all I wanted, but I still kept freaking out about it mentally and it was a recipe for disaster for my weight-loss efforts. I have decided that next year during swim season, I'm going to attend a morning meeting whether it's with my leader or not. I can handle a personnel change much better than the look of a weight gain due to the time difference. Yes...I'm weird! So, having said that, yesterday's eating was a complete disaster. Holy moly! I didn't know I could still eat that amount of food! My stomach did indeed hurt, but I just kept eating...I just couldn't feel satisfied. I was craving...."something"....what it was I don't know so I was eating and eating to satisfy the craving I couldn't identify. Sigh...lots of ups and downs, but I'll get there. Today has been much better other than waking up with a massive headache. I went to bed with the headache and woke up to it as well. Advil has been my good friend these past 24 hours! Eating today has been good. Just finished some lunch and this afternoon we have a pool party for the end of swim season. It will be catered by Chipotle, so I should be ok. I'll get my behind in the water as well to keep cool. This week I need to focus on my activity. It's been pretty non-existent since I got back from my trip and I feel terrible. Part of it is that my plantar fasciitis is acting up again, and part of it has been that I've gotten insanely lazy! I'm going to "get up and go" tomorrow morning. I've decided not to do the boot camp sessions anymore because it really aggravates my plantar fasciitis, but I'm going to hit the gym for some cardio and weights. Gotta move my butt! Have a great Sunday everyone!

T oday is food prep day. So tell me what you do on "food prep day". Well food prep is different for me each week, depending on how I feel and what the temps are supposed to be. LOL All next week is supposed to be pretty hot - so I prepped dinner for all next week. This week I made chicken parm casserole, grilled turkey tenderloins, grilled bbq chicken tenderloins, grilled green beans (with EVOO onions, garlic & bacon), oven roasted potatoes, oven roasted broccoli, grilled mozzarella and garlic chicken sausages, egg patties (15 of them - for me, dh and ds for breakfasts), 2 lbs strawberries cut up, entire package of grapes picked off the vines. Ummm...I think that was mostly it. I microwaved a package of brown & wild rice with broccoli and carrots to use in dh's lunches this week...I also microwaved a can of peas also for his lunch. I made up 5 lunches for him. I also used ground turkey (99%) with taco seasoning for me to make my taco salads for lunch this week. Oh and I cut up carrots for dh to take to work. And I made a batch of granola for our yogurts. The weeks that it's not supposed to be super hot, I won't prep dinner meals. I'll just make sure I get 5 lunches for dh, have some grilled or other lean meat for my lunches, make eggs, and have fruit all cleaned and cut and in to-go containers. Today it took me 4 hours but I did it all myself. The days where my dh can help with the grilling, it cuts it down to an hour, maybe 2. I only make granola every other week...or whenever we run out. I love having the kids home in the summer because I have help schlepping in all the bags!

needmysanity First of all I have to say the side by side pic you posted on IG? Holy cow - you look so small!! Thanks Brandy
I'm nowhere near as small as you are but I completely understand what you're saying! Before the game yesterday, I asked my dh if what I was wearing looked ok. I was wearing jean shorts and a fitted tank top. At a little less than 200 lbs and a lot of excess skin, I go back and forth about wearing fitted shirts. I'm in the best shape of my life, I feel fantastic...but I still have horrible body images issues. Anyway, my dh's reply was "are you wearing your slimmer?" (because a lot of times I do when I wear fitted shirts) and I told him no that it was going to be hot...and before I could ask him if I should put it on, he was like "I thought you were!" And he told me that I'm really starting to lose some of the girth of my mid-section...which thrills me to no end. I hate the way I carry my fat...all around my mid-section PLUS around my hips. And great job going into SLO and feeling comfortable!! You are doing such a great job!!

Peace and quiet :-) I hate to say it but your doc is right. My dh is 195 and 6'1" and he had to start taking bp meds last year (and he's only 36yo). It runs in his family and his grandfather died due to complications from a massive heart attack and so did an uncle.

Hope you get good news at your appointment, mrsp . I'm the same with lipids and diabetes. I watch my hemoglobin A1C rise even when I lose weight. Despite popular lay opinion, even skinny people who do not eat carbs can develop type 2 diabetes. TankTop , carblover deleted her account. Oh no. I didn't realize that happened with carblover. I really like her and hope she comes back! ETA: I was friends with her on FB but I see she's unfriended me. Makes me sad that someone ruined that for me. I like her and loved seeing her pics of her little guy.
