I cut my index finger last night about 1100 pm. Took forever to stop bleeding, and it is bleeding again. Is it too late for stitches?

It's probably already healing but if you are still bleeding I'd get it looked at. Are you on blood thinners?

I don't think it will matter, go to urgent care and have it looked at.

no, no blood thinners. It is right on the tip, so it is hard to protect.

If the edges are healing, then they can maybe stitch farther back. That happened to DH a few years ago. If they can't, they might try to glue it. But if it's bleeding still, I'd go. Steristrips may work too but they will figure it out.

"Your risk of infection increases the longer the wound remains open. Most wounds that require closure should be stitched, stapled, or closed with skin adhesives (also called liquid stitches) within 6 to 8 hours after the injury. Some wounds that require treatment can be closed as long as 24 hours after the injury."

no, no blood thinners. It is right on the tip, so it is hard to protect. My brother cut the entire tip off of his thumb last year using a mandolin. They couldn't stitch it for him but they cauterized it to stop the bleeding and then wrapped it up. His poor thumb looked like a triangle for about a month, but it grew back lol.

They might not stitch it, but they can glue it at this time.

I just needed a better band aid! Thanks for your help.

We usually don't stitch after 4-6 hours depending on the wound. We might glue it or use a steri-strip but you may be ok with just a band-aid and / or some tightly wound tape.
Tetanus up-to-date?
