Started wearing glasses at 11 - short sighted. Switched to contacts in my 20s and 30s then started getting dry eyes and went back to glasses. About 6 yrs ago ( at 47) I got my first pair of progressive lenses because I needed something for reading as well.

I am also 44 and got my first pair of bifocals last month. I have been using reading glasses for awhile but not all the time. If the light is bright enough or the print is big enough I can read it, but in dim lighting or if the letters are too tiny, I have had to pull out those reading glasses for awhile now. A few years maybe. My biggest thing was that I started noticing I couldn't read street signs that well and things started to look blurred/fuzzy. I can see much better now.

I got my first glasses at 11. But I've been wearing contacts since I was 14. Hate hate hate wearing glasses. They annoy me. This is exactly me! Down to the ages. My dd1 has horrible vision as well and had been in glasses since she was 6. She got contacts at 12. Dd2 has perfect 20/20 vision like her dad. Dd3 is only 3 but she already wears glasses. To help with her lazy eye. They said she will more than likely have bad vision as well. Current tests peg her at 20/50 but she is a toddler and not exactly cooperative with testing!

I needed reading glasses by the time I was 35, bifocals for near and middle distances by the time I was 42 but could mostly function without for most things until last year when I was 52. My glasses are still bifocals for near and middle distances (only stronger) but I can't get by without them as much anymore.

1st grade, so 6 or 7. I've often said I think needing them that early has made it easier - they are such a part of my routine that they don't bother me at all. I switched to soft contacts towards the end of high school (after a failed attempt with gas perms in middle school, partially to slow down progression). I'm a -6/-5.5, so around 20/400 or 20/500. Doesn't bother me though because I don't really know anything different.
I'm too chicken to have lasik. If something goes wrong, it's not easily fixable and they're your EYES. After seeing my mom's experience, I'd rather have a high prescription but be easy-to-fit for contacts/glasses than take a chance of being hard to find glasses/contacts later. Eyes continue to change as you age and having modified them and that impact my ability to get correction later terrifies me. I know most people rave about Lasik but since glasses/contacts are so easy for me, I'm not willing to risk it.

I first got glasses when I was in 5th grade. I got progressive lenses when I was in my early 40s and have had to have the prescription adjusted multiple times since then. I have my next checkup in August and I'm guessing my left eye needs a stronger Rx than I currently have in my glasses.

42. I had always been the one in our family with perfect eyes - even better than our kids. Then the age thing caught up to me. Started out buying cheaters, but got to the point when ever I took them off, I needed to read/see something close up. I started with progressive bifocals with very little prescription for distance. That has changes now, too.

Since I was 9 or 10. My vision has gotten worse just about every year. Got bifocals a few years ago when I was 48.

16-17 for distance/driving. I started wearing cheap "readers" probably around 42.

I was 8, but probably needed them before that. My prescription started off pretty strong, and I remember being amazed at the detail around me the first time I wore glasses.
I started wearing hard contacts as a teen and transitioned to soft. I still wear them, but had to add reading glasses the last few years. Sigh.

I was in Grade 4 when I got my glasses. 18 when I switched to contacts.
But I'm 47, and am hitting that stage where even with my contacts in, I need to hold things a bit further away to read sometimes.

11 or 12 When puberty hit, I became VERY nearsighted.
I wore hard contact lens from about age 16 to age 30. After I gave birth, one morning the lens would not fit properly. I have worn glasses ever since. For awhile I had trifocals.
Two years ago, I had cataract surgery and that has not gone to my satisfaction. I paid $$$$ to have the Krystal lens--they are supposed to adjust to focus the way normal lens do. They don't. Additionally, the dr. gave me one eye distance and one eye near, hoping to eliminate the need for glasses. That has been a PIA. My brain won't "merge" the images or ?? it is supposed to do. I have ended up with bifocals. I could use just reading glasses but that is an awful PIA to remember where the glasses are. I'd rather just put on glasses and be done than trying to remember where the reading glasses were left behind.

I'm 44 and just ordered my first pair of progressive lenses. I don't understand how I can go from seeing just fine to not being able to see much of anything without glasses.

I've had glasses since I was 5/6 and bifocals since I was 40. I got contact lenses when I was 13 (gas permeable and they were a nightmare). I've been wearing my glasses more lately due to dry eyes/allergies. All four of my kids wear glasses and have had them since they were 6/7 years old. I really wish they wouldn't have inherited my poor vision.
ETA: I'm not a candidate for lasik eye surgery.

7, but I most likely needed them for years before that. Hello sister! But I was 6 grade. Even when I failed vision tests my parents would not take me to the eye doc. They thought I was faking. Then would get mad because I didn't do really well in school.

I wore glasses from age 5-13, and an eye patch when I was 6-7. I grew out of my farsightedness. Then In my late 20's I started needing them again :/ In my late 40's I started needing progressives, and it's just gone downhill since then.

I was 9. My grandma noticed it when we were at a Fair and I was calling for her and couldn't see that she was right in front of me. It's hereditary. My parents and sisters all have glasses too.

Aww little kids in glasses are so cute. But I can see how keeping the glasses on them would be a task! My eye doc has been weaning me off my prescription for about a year so far. I'm near sighted but only slightly and my prescription has never changed over the years. So last year he reduced it from -2.5 to -2.25. When I go in next month he wil take it to -2.0. So a few more years and I may not need them at all. He said this will also help prevent me from needing reading glasses.
