Who has had a few? How many? Ever have a bad experience getting one? I got my 4th today...last 3 not bad, this one was awful. Dr said probably last one (I'm 42)

Ugh, I didn't realize they were painful, or that you could only have so many. That sucks I'm sorry!
I am going to have an ablation and the form of birth control I was planning on using (those threads into the Fallopian tubes) has been getting bad coverage lately and an IUD was my backup plan.

Up until til this one I never had issues. Uncomfortable for a few minutes, yes. But I also have a tilted uterus. But today I for some reason couldn't relax, which resulted in faster than I wanted breathing, passing out, the works. Not fun! First 3 were easy.

I just got my second. No problems whatsoever. A bit uncomfortable during the procedure but my doc warned me so I was ready for it. But afterward, no problems at all.
Sorry you're hurting.

I'm on my third. The insertion process, while not fun, was tolerable each time.
I'm older than you and I still have a few years (2-3?) left on this one. My doctor hasn't said anything about me being too old for it. I'll have to ask next year when I go in for my annual.

My MIL had the coil (as she called it) back in the day. Even though it wasn't effective and she got pregnant with it in. The doctor told her it could just stay in, so she never had it removed. Well now at 66 years old it is bothering her and she's had it removed. It was all scarred over and difficult to get out and painful. So make sure you get the last one taken out, I'm sure they do now.

My body dislodged mine within a week of having one and I had to go in for X-rays. I wasn't painful, just AWOL.

I only had 1 but it wasn't bad at all. I got it taken out when dh had a vasectomy. My dr did tell me though that I should have one (or at least some birth control) until mid 50's. Women in my family regularly get pregnant late into their 40's and they go through menopause late!! My mom didn't until she was almost 60!

I was scheduled to have one put in because my periods were so heavy every other time I had it. They were speratic because I had started menopause. The gyne told me to come in the next time I had my period to put it in and I never got my period again. I firmly believe, because I did not want to have it, that my mind told my body to knock it off. I hope you feel better!!

If you need something after this IUD, look at Nexplanon. My doctor is comfortable leaving women on it up until 50 because of the lower hormone levels and then starts testing for menopause. Sorry your insertion was so rough!

I've had 2, both mirena. DH had a vasectomy many years ago. I keep getting the IUD based on the fact that I don't have periods while on it.

Can you all clarify? Can you stay on an IUD until you've gone through menopause? I don't know why you couldn't I just wasn't sure if I was missing something.

I had mine in until I had a hysterectomy - due to major fibroid issues - aged 53. My Gyn told me my hormone levels indicated that I was very close to being in menopause.

I think I have my 4th. Had my first after DD#2 was born and this should be my last. I only had a problem once when my cervix 'clenched' after the removal and wouldn't allow the doctor to put the new one in. That wasn't fun so after a while of trying I had to leave without it and go back in a week or so. caangel - that's what I'm doing. I had a mirena and up until recently when the bleeding got heavier due to fibroids, it had really helped keep my periods a lot lighter.

Pushing DH for the vasectomy now! Will stay with IUD based on no period. My doc said probably one more and then I'll be good....that'll bring my to almost 50! Damn, I'm getting up there! lol

I think I'm on my 4th Mirena. I'm 46. I love that it reduces my periods. The first couple when I was younger, no periods at all. Now that I'm older, I'm getting some breakthrough periods, the cramping (OH the CRAMPING) and other symptoms of my periods returning. So I don't know what my doctor is going to suggest next year. I'd really really hate to go back to full periods. The cramping would knock me out for a day or so.

I'm about halfway through the recommended time on my second Mirena. I have loved the suppression of periods. I'm assuming at 55 I don't need it for birth control, but that extra benefit sure doesn't hurt either. I have had no symptoms of oncoming menopause. I'm hoping I'll just slide through it without even noticing. Lol!
