I looked to see if there was already a thread about this and didn't find one.
balloon crash
I've read a couple of articles that say this area has a lot of HAB activity. How heartbreaking for the families.

Just read that it struck a high voltage power line before catching fire. So very sad.

I read about this as it isn't that far from me. Just tragic. We have friends who own and fly a HAB and to be honest, they terrify me.

So tragic! But from the pics I've seen they were in an area with a lot of electric wires. Why on earth would they fly there?

How sad. I've always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride. Then I hear stories like this and have second thoughts.

How sad. I've always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride. Then I hear stories like this and have second thoughts. That's me too. The idea is very appealing but the accidents give lots of pause for thought.

It just seems that if you get in trouble up there, there's not much in the way of getting back down safely.

16 people in the basket sounds like a lot to me. Is it normal to carry that many?

How sad. I have done a hot air Balloon... But it was in Kenya, over the 'Masai Mara. Out biggest worry was to land before we crossed a river... It would have taken the jeep an hour to pick us up if we crossed. Nothing like a champagne breakfast with wildebeest and zebras migrating right past us and elephants in view!

How awfully tragic! I can't even imagine what they went through. Prayers for the families.
We have a HAB festival here every year in the early summer. It's gorgeous to watch them all lift off at sunrise. I win a trip in one when I was in high school. It was amazing and I've always wanted to do it again.

16 people in the basket sounds like a lot to me. Is it normal to carry that many? It depends on the size of the gondola. Here is a gondola from the Heart of Texas website. As you can see, it will hold quite a few people. Save

so tragic.. it's all over our news (Texas) and they are beginning to identify the victims. I cannot IMAGINE their fear as the basket caught on fire from hitting the power lines and they had no way to escape the flames.
I've never had the desire to ride a HAB, because I've got an aversion to heights - but this is just horrible.

So sad. Never been in a hot air balloon - the closet I got to it was a friend who wanted to do it for a birthday but it kept on getting cancelled due to unfavourable wind conditions.
