So, apparently bestiality and pedophilia is legal in some parts of the US now..... Pray tell, where are these backwaters where this stuff is legal? (And yeah, it was a dumb Aussie who posted that.)

Haha!!! I just shake my head and move on. Depending on how bad it is, I may just read later if I need a good laugh.

Maybe in Julia Truscott's fantasy-world US stands for "untrue sh&t" instead of United States...

Instead I screen shotted it and sent it to my daughter to help me come up with a withering reply. I spent FAR too much time comtemplating this one!! (And then I couldn't find the post it was on so couldn't reply anyway.)

Well, bestiality was legal in Denmark up until a couple of years ago. The even had placed those sick weirdos could visit to fullfill their needs. I watched a documentary once, and it made me sick to my stomach.

I don't think pedophilia and bestiality are legal anywhere in the U.S. But obviously stupid people are worldwide!

I Googled, because sometimes the law can be quirky. Couldn't find anything through a source I recognise, but there are plenty of references. This is from the site of New Jersey 101.5 radio station - which, for all I know is like The Onion of the airwaves, so don't believe I am saying this is accurate... "Bestiality remains legal in the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming, with bills pending in New Hampshire and Ohio, according to the Humane Society of the United States. Read More: Bestiality now illegal in NJ — but it's still allowed in 10 states | nj1015.com/bestiality-now-illegal-in-nj-but-its-still-allowed-in-10-states/?trackback=tsmclip"

OK, wow..... That's why I didn't end up replying to her comment on the off chance that it was actually legal somewhere. But in her post she makes it sound like it's just been made legal in the US and Australia will soon follow. But I'm willing to bet that pedophilia is not legal anywhere in the US.

I read this story on the Africia section of BBC News and was so angry. The title of the article is "The man hired to have sex with children". The hiring was done by the parents and viewed as a cleansing ritual - horrible, the man didn't tell parents his HIV status www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-36843769Guess who was happy to read a follow up story a few days later called "Malawian 'hyena man' arrested for having sex with children" Seems the President of Malawi was not impressed and ordered his arrest. Last year the Government banned child marriage raising the marriage age from 15 to 18. Seems steps are being made in the right direction. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-36892963

I hope those parents could be arrested as well.

My son turned 18 a couple of weeks ago...and his girlfriend doesn't until the end of August. They spent an entire week tweeting silly things like 'uh oh, we are in an illegal relationship now!' and 'I sure hope the police don't find out about us...' I fussed at the boy and told him that it really wasn't all that funny-a serious topic like pedophilia shouldn't be relegated to jokes. He rolled his eyes at me and told me that he knew it was serious, that I was taking their jokes too seriously. I told him one day he would understand better and for now, just knock it off. Crazy kids, sometimes they don't get it. But no. Pedophilia is not legal. Don't know about bestiality, but there was a news story not all that long ago about a woman in the next county over who was texting pictures of herself getting it on with a dog and she got arrested and charged with ALL kinds of different charges including bestiality. So I suppose that it means that it is at least illegal in Florida.

However not exactly in this case. Plus, lately especially, some citizens of NJ need things spelled out for them. It wasn't exactly legal in NJ before that. It was under animal cruelty laws. Previous to the 'new' law people were charged with animal cruelty for that and prosecuted and jailed. But they suddenly felt it needed to be spelled out because some asshat got a good enough lawyer to get the animal cruelty charges dismissed so apparently we do NEED the obvious spelled out. Because how do you know it was cruel to the cow? It was a real WTF moment here in Jersey. Not sure how legal it actually is in the other places either until someone finds a way thru animal Cruelty law 'loopholes'

I read about that (there was a story on NPR.) The practice is horrifying from the perspective of these western eyes. The fact that he didn't disclose his HIV status was just...words escape me. One has to wonder if he would have been arrested though if the original news story hadn't created such an uproar internationally. It is awfully hard to change traditional practices like that.

So many things we would expect to be addressed or covered (through pure common sense) but which aren't.

Ah yes, we now have a proposed law ( not a law yet ) making it specifically illegal to leave a child in the car because, as I said, we need to spell it all out here and child endangerment and child neglect laws *may* not be specific enough at some point. ( we do already have a specific law making leaving pets in cars illegal because it was needed )

I just yesterday read a synopsis of this documentary: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_(film)From the synopsis I read, there seemed to be no laws against bestiality when the man who had sex with a horse died. Those laws simply was never put in lawbooks, because nobody felt there was a need for them I guess? Until these people were exposed of course. Is cannibalism actually illegal? Are there laws against that where you live? Bestiality and cannibalism probably never happened often enough back in the day for lawmakers to make laws against it. Some places still don't have certain laws in place. That does not make them LEGAL. It means that an incident needs to be put in front of a court, and THEN people will think 'Oh yeah.... we should probably make cannibalism/bestiality on the books for being illegal, let's create a new law'. Same thing in Denmark. The law against bestiality was just never put in place. It wasn't like a bunch of politicians had a discussion on whether or not they should remove the law against bestiality. It was never there in the first place. Until someone exposed these scumbags and they made laws against it pretty damned fast after that!

Within the last 20 years or so there was a heavily publicized case about a very strange group of people who connected on the internet and gathered not far from Seattle area to have sex with horses. It turned out that the horse owners were not aware of what was happening -- these people stayed at a farm adjacent to theirs and snuck over in the night. The situation did not come to light until a man died in the act. The owners were horrified, and the horse had to be euthanized due to behavior problems. I recall a lot of people with horrified/confused/grossed out expressions talking about it. Apparently WA did not have a law on the books at that time, which was one factor in the group's choice of location.

We had that same issue in our house. They have dated for six years, but you still always, always need to be careful. I told him to keep it in his pants. Always.

Just for the record, having sex with a 17yo girl doesn't fall under the umbrella of pedophilia. She is an underage minor for sure (although I don't think in California they would usually prosecute a case for consensual sex between an 18yo and a 17yo).
Pedophilia actually refers to having sex (or wanting to have sex) with pre-pubescent children only. The term gets misused a lot. But that is what it means in psychological terms. I get a little skeeved out every time I hear someone use the term in reference to teens, especially older teens. It's overkill. I know, that's just me.

Actually if you google this subject there is no federal law against sex with animals. It's left up to each individual state to regulate and there are several states that do have laws against this.
