I posted this on the other thread, but I was feeling guilty that someone might read the thread in a way that didn't use the spoiler box, so I thought I'd start a new thread for plot discussion for those who have finished the play.
I thought that JK Rowling said Voldemort never had children. All I can find, however, is that she said he never loved and that he only cared about himself and power. There are points in the original series where she describes Bellatrix as looking almost in love with him.
Now, I'm stuck on how time travel is supposed to work in this universe. I just finished rereading Book 3 last week. Every time I read the time travel scenes, I marvel at how well she framed the story. Nothing REALLY changed when they time traveled - the trio's actions were already part of the first version we read. For instance, the axe swooshing and Hagrid bellowing was interpreted as Buckbeak being killed when you read the first version, whereas the same swing and bellow was interpreted as a swing in frustration/bellow in delight in the second encounter. Harry sees his "dad" produce the patronus the first time, whereas we discover he saw himself when we see the scene from different angle. That seems very different than the parallel universe type description in this play.
I did think that most of the characters acted in ways that were true to their original characters, so that made me happy.

Thanks for this thread! I was thinking the same thing about the child. With Bellatrix dying during the battle of Hogwarts when did she get pg and then deliver said child?
I do like to see that not all is perfect for Harry but Ron sounded lamer than usual. I felt he started to come into his own towards the end of DH bit in the 4th act his lines are kind of lame.

I don't care for the sci-fi bent of parallel universes for the time turning. I also don't care for the parallel universe theories in actual sci-fi writing ... so I have a predisposition! I don't think the characters "aged" well -- Ron has become a buffon, Harry very emo and the women aren't well drawn at all. I don't care for the very heavy reliance on the previous plots And -- I agree - when could Bellatrix have gotten PG by Voldy and delivered a child -- they both "died" at the Battle of Hogwarts.

Let's see....we saw Bellatrix at the battle at the end of Book 6. Then we see her at the beginning of Book 7 when the Death Eaters are all sitting around the table with the Muggle Studies teacher dangling overhead. If am am not mistaken, we don't see her again until Malfoy Manor where she tortures Hermione and kills Dobby - and that would be late in the school year.
I don't know how long the trio was at Shell Cottage, but I can't imagine it was more than a week or two, and everything after that took place in one day. I think the play said Delphi was born shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts. I think she would have had 9 months between the battle at the end of book 6 and Malfoy Manor. That would make her pregnant at the scene at the beginning of Book 7, but not so much so that it would have been obvious.

Thanks for going to all the trouble of spoiler-boxing-deleting-new-threading. The spoiler was my request, but I had no idea the spoiler box doesn't work in some versions of the site, so you saved the day. -First, let's get this over with: Procreation with the Dark Lord? Ick. I'm guessing parseltongue is involved? -And time travel always makes me feel stupid. I'm still trying to figure out "Back to the Future." -Ron was super lame...Hermione was underwhelming. And their daughter! And Draco intuiting that Ginny was always lonely was a stretch. -I liked Scorpius, even though he was so inexplicably and relentlessly upbeat. I actually wished he WAS Voldemort Junior. Then they could have a theme about rising above your circumstances...good v. evil...triumph of the will...yada, yada. Kind of a Young Harry redux - with a twist. Instead, we got a theme of too many poorly-drawn father/child relationships that all just petered out. -And as a theatrical costumer, I shudder to think how the whole Bane thing works. (No, I really didn't hate it. I just thought of it like I did the epilogue to Book Seven: "Ack, NO! Do NOT write this...but ooh, as long as you did, I can't wait to read it." )

. Instead, we got a theme of too many poorly-drawn father/child relationships that all just petered out. Wherein we find another "red herring' -- they were ALL "cursed children" -- well, not Wesleys -- but Voldy, Harry, Draco, Scorpious, Albus, Delphi
I just did a google search and find this -- that I'm certain was added very recently!
Unknown to the world however would be the fact that before her death, Bellatrix gave birth to a daughter named Delphini, whom Bellatrix conceived with her beloved master, Lord Voldemort, sometime after the events at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in 1996 and before her death at the Battle of Hogwarts.[4]

Ha! Now curious play-readers won't have to come to THIS thread to figure out the chronology! (Maybe poor Ginny was the "cursed" Weasley. Ahem: "Ginny's parents, closet sexists, poured attention on their sons - even dorky Percy - so she hid her abject loneliness in a life of too many Griffindor friends, teammates, and suitors. Only Draco Malfoy could see her pain. She eventually found contentment as the balm that soothed the soul of the wizarding world's most plum catch.")

Brain bleach. Lots and lots of brain bleach. Otherwise every single time I read about simpering Bellatrix staring at longingly at Baldy Voldy I will have the vision of them doing the horizontal snake dance...oh crap I have just interjected Nangini in the mix and have grossed myself out. (and I know that I am not the only one wondering how it happened...was there an 'oh baby I dig your wand?' candles? silk sheets? Barry White?? or did they sneak away and do it quick and nasty in a hidden corner of the Slytherian common room? Damn it, I will never be able to read the books the same way now. )

I finally read this last night.. in fact it took just one night to read it. I enjoyed it very much.
I felt they did the time travel aspect fairly well. In the end nothing was changed at all.
The only character I did not like was Rose! But I love that it's set up for their getting together despite Ron's jokes in the original epilogue.

I can't finish it. I am so disappointed with the whole story and characters. I don't like any of them. It just doesn't have the same feel as the other books and yes I am allowing for the different formats. One of my greatest reading disappointments ever - right up there with Eat Pray Love

This book was very disappointing. I bought it but it's going in the donation pile.. Unlike all of my other books in this series which have been read over and over. Odd story that read like fan fiction to me bummer

I've been torn between getting this or not. When I found out that JK didn't actually write it, I decided not to. I think I'll stick with that plan.

I still like it (even though I'm still bothered by the approach to time travel) after having a month to reflect. I feel that it was meant to give a little something to the fans - a chance to check-in with old "friends" without actually changing much about the HP universe.
I will definitely see the play if I have the opportunity.
Of course, I am a HP junkie...I'll even read the short story books coming out next week.

I read it in a night. It was different, but I loved getting to see the characters again. I enjoyed it and loved the feeling of reading a new HP book once again. Story line was a little hokey, but I still liked it.
