My daughter carries a backpack style bag. It's cute and looks a bit bohemian. Not a traditional "Jansport" type backpack. She's 19 and going to a local community college.

My son goes to a medium-sized university campus where they have to trek quite a ways from North campus to South campus and the girls definitely use backpacks.

Two of my girls carry Vera Bradley Campus Backpacks. And one carry's a different brand backpack. But yes, all three of my girls carry backpacks. Two are seniors this year, and they have carried them each year.

I've noticed when picking up and dropping off my daughter that almost every single girl carries or wears a Vera backpack.

Mine does, mostly. Although, last year (her junior year) when she did her "baby internship" (that's the junior year one that's only 8-10 hours per week, vs. the required senior year one that's like a full-time job) she texted me a few days before it started to say that she'd suddenly realized she had no bag to take her stuff to the internship. "Mom! A backpack isn't PROFESSIONAL!!" lol. I guess I was glad she was thinking "professionally" although I do know a lot of professionals from my neighborhood who use backpacks because it's a 10 minute walk to the subway.
Anyway...Amazon to the rescue. She found a nice tote bag style and was happy with that. But she still uses a backpack for classes because it's so much more comfortable to carry around.

Our dd is a sophomore. She uses a backpack as she is carrying her computer and anything else she needs.
Edit to add....I don't recall the brand, but it's waterproof too.

Yes my daughter used a backpack. She tried a messenger bag but went back to using a backpack.

My oldest is entering her 3rd year of University. She still uses a backpack. She has several! One is from the University bookstore, another she bought online, and I think she has 2 more as well. She rotates them out every so often.

Backpack. A waterproof one from LLBean which will last her all 4 years and has a protective area inside for her laptop. Vera Bradley ones are a waste of money, imho because they don't last very long and you cannot really load them up if necessary or they will rip.

My college dd definitely uses a backpack--hers is a Jansport. She also has a more professional looking tote that she uses from time to time. I feel that whatever kind of bag it is, it needs to be waterproof.

Vera is popular here in general with junior high and high school, but not necessarily the backpacks, and not the university where my dd goes to school. I don't see those being carried at all.

I remember back when by dd was in high school, the peas talked about high school girls carrying Vera Bradley bags but that was definitely not a trend in my area. However, it has become the trend now! Still not so much with high school girls, but with college age girls; my dd included. She actually has several Vera Bradley items (travel bag, purses, wallets, keychain, tote bag).

One thing about college is it tends to be less "what everyone else is doing" and becomes more "what works for me and I like" Help her make that transition in thinking!
On our campus I see a mix of back packs, messanger bags and just carrying a book/notebook in their arms. She probably is going to want a few sizes of bags based on her day. I never see vera bradley on our campus.
Let her go to college and see what is going to work for her.

One used a backpack, the other used a messenger bag. She still carries a messenger bag with her everywhere.

The college kids who use the library branch where I work (it's close to a major university and a very large community college) mostly carry the traditional Jansport type nylon backpacks. Usually in colors or patterns now.
A few carry cutesy backpacks and mostly end up carrying their books in their arms which to me defeats the purpose, but whatever floats your boat.

Yes!! DD used a Vera Bradley all 4 years. There were times during her senior year that she used a large "leather" purse tote. It was large enough for her chromebook, books, notes, planner. But she would always go back to her backpack.

I teach at a university and the majority of male and female students carry backpacks. Our students are a bit lower income, working full time and not attending on mommy and daddy's nickel. Most do not own laptops so they just carry books and brand wise it is generally old, and often duct taped Jansport or some sort or generic.

My girls' Vera Bradley bags have lasted great for 3 years. They are science majors and their bags are LOADED. The only reason we bought new ones this year is because they wanted a new pattern. Oh, and they are waterproof too.

I have a college junior. She carries a backpack with her laptop, tablet and anything else she needs. Hers is a Colombia or Patagonia or one of those types of backpacks. It's waterproof and sturdy. She's used it since Freshman year.

If kids carried a Vera bag around her, it would be borrowing from Grandma. That's what it's considered. Old lady. My oldest dd used a leather messenger back during college, and youngest is using a UA or swiss army one. Usually most go for sporty and practical, wearable. Vs have to buy a new one each year, or trendy.

My daughter used a regular jansport like backpack through college and now in graduate school. She liked being able to take along what she needed for the day so she didn't have to back to her dorm unless she was done on campus for the day or for a big stretch of hours. At graduate school, she lives about 5 miles from campus so this is even more of a consideration.

Mostly The North Face around here. Also other brands you can find at REI I've never seen a Vera Bradley one.
