They are on Facebook live now showing planners! I had no idea. (Not that I need another planner... )

Not a planner person but isn't the market saturated enough?

Not a planner person but isn't the market saturated enough? I think they are late to the planner party. But I'm sure they will sell planners to their own fan base. The dividers are for coloring, etc. I think their followers will love these planners.

OMG...there aren't enough out there? Don't get me wrong, I love that these companies are finding ways to stay trendy, but I wish they could do that and stay scrapbook related. I am kind of sick of seeing planner this, planner that everywhere scrapbook stuff should be. Are they really struggling that much with JUST scrapbooking or is this an attempt for growth?

I am kind of sick of seeing planner this, planner that everywhere scrapbook stuff should be. Are they really struggling that much with JUST scrapbooking or is this an attempt for growth? To be honest... I'm afraid they're struggling. That is really sad. I can suck it up and deal if it means it brings more people in (I know that at least SOME planner people have to be sucked in to the idea of scrapbooking when they get involved with scrapbook companies because of the planners). It is so much better than the alternative. I look around me at all the stuff that I own and CONTINUE to buy and just can't understand how they could still struggle. Even buying on sale, I tend to spend in the hundreds a month on supplies because that alone is enjoyable for me (using it is another type of joy for me). I understand that not everyone can or even wants to shop like I do, but knowing how much I spend, I find it hard to wrap my head around it. Especially knowing how inexpensive some things are to produce (like paper, it's marked up probably 25x and even *I* can get stamps produced in VERY small quantities...like 10...for about a third of the cost of retail...since they order in the hundreds or thousands, I am certain the markup is probably at least 10x, most likely more). On one side, it makes me sad that my options might continue to become more and more limited so I'm HAPPY that I have a large stash to fall back on...but on the other side of things, I currently have way more than I could conceivably use in 10-15 years (and I've only been at this for 5) and I'm running out of room for it all. It sucks to know that even with most of the crafty people I associate with online buying up every bit of the stuff that they love (and many of those people put MY insane amount of shopping to shame), it still isn't enough for the industry as a whole.

I agree with you. I don't have a lot of money but i spend $100-150 per month at least. Is the industry doing something wrong? I will continue to support companies I love but how are big companies going out of business?

paperaddict scrapaddict702 When I say struggling I don't mean that they are fighting to keep the company. I'm sure their market is big enough to let them survive the dip in scrapbooking interest if they scale down, and apparently they are good at finding new sources of income. But, only a few years ago, there were several thousands more people that would spend $100+ per month on scrapbooking supplies. That group has now gone to other crafts, that's the natural cycle of crafts. Just look at knitting that is hugely popular for a couple of years and then the general interest in knitting fades away and then come back into popularity again. I believe there's a natural ebb and flow for all crafts and some crafts have longer and some have shorter 'popularity cycles' than others. Losing so many of your customers is hard on a business, so I don't blame the major sb brands for trying to branch out and increase incomes. Planners (Prima, Webster's Pages, Simple Stories et al), party supplies (MME), stationery and office supplies (AC), gift wrapping (Becky Higgins)... Prima have been successful in marketing art materials, again to their own fan base. The same people who now will buy their planners. All those new areas – the competition is a killer out there, and I don't think any of these brands have the power to be a leading brand within the new product categories, but since they already have their loyal fan base they know they can at least sell their stuff to them.

Add me to the bench that thinks the planner craze is getting to be too much. I totally don't begrudge anyone who loves to cute-up their planner, though I'm definitely not one of them. I use my planner to keep track of family/work stuff. I don't haul it around and it stays on my desk. At most I add colored repositional circle stickers (from Avery) to keep track of the kids activities. Everything else is written in. I don't have the inclination to add stamps and Washi to my pages...that's why I scrapbook. And really when my planner is used up I'm not saving it for posterity. But that's just me.

I also agree that I've had enough of the planner craze. Not that I have a problem with people doing it and enjoying it. I also don't have a problem for there to be specialized products. What I have a problem with, is, every company jumping on the band wagon! One company has an idea and has success and so they all do it. It gets annoying, sickening, overdone, etc. I'd like to see them stay a little bit more original. I know that's easier said then done.

I read that and thought what a great fit! But I only buy planner supplies that can be used on layouts, so my opinion won't help their business.
