DH and I are finally on the home stretch with our deck (ok ok ok DH is on the home stretch).
We bought a fire bowl, and are converting it to natural gas.
It came with some brown/rust coloured lava rocks. I'd really like to add some sparkle and have been looking at the fire glass on Amazon.
My question - do I need to remove all the lava rocks? Or can I just add the glass in to give it extra sparkle?

I would contact the place where you bought the fire bowl and probably your gas company. Our Region has so many different new regulations about fire pits/bowls due to the drought this summer.
Sounds like your backyard will be beautiful.

Ya that's not likely to result in any answers. We just bought it at Canadian Tire - and googling the company name results in nothing. I already know I don't need an outdoor burn permit for it. The burn ban has been lifted for our area, so we are able to use it freely.
Union Gas is not going to tell me if I can add glass to the stones already in it.

We just came back from a beach vacation, and the place we stayed had natural gas fire pits with sapphire blue "sparkle"rocks. They were just tossed in with the lava, or carefully placed amongst the lava; so it looked random. It would have looked strange if all the rocks were the sparkle stones.

I'm no expert but I thought the glass rocks went on top of the lava rocks in a thin layer. You know actually you can probably do what ever you want , but I think if you take out all of the lava rocks, it will not hold in the heat. Let me know if you find a cheaper place than Amazon to buy the rocks, they are $$ on there.

You can add the glass to the lava rock for sparkle. My DH is a gas man and we have a few natural gas and propane fire pits and we change our the lava rock for glass frequently (he likes to test new product). I don't care for the look of all glass with the fire table we have now because it's a very modern look but I do have a handful of glass with the lava rock for fun.
