I remember the first time I took a road trip with my husband (he was my boyfriend then) we both saw the same shooting star at the same time. It is one of my favorite early memories of us together.

I have seen more than I can count...growing up in the country, camping driving in the mountains at night, etc.
It never really occurred to me that folks might not have seen them before. But, when I think about it I can see how city folks would never have the chance due to all the light pollution.

When we were camping at the Grand Canyon a few years ago, we saw a bunch- the sky was so nice and clear!

Yes I have, many many times. But I worked nights for years and was often looking out the window at work, or driving, or just plain couldn't sleep on my nights off and I liked to sit outside and look at the stars.

I've seen the Perseid meteor shower at Yosemite, that was a wonderful show.

We rafted down the Grand Canyon and camped at night and we saw so many shooting stars. It was amazing!

I wouldn't describe a shooting star as 'over the water', but if it was higher in the sky,Cohen yes

This is something I had never considered. I spent a large majority of my childhood summers sleeping with my sisters in sleeping bags spread on a tarp in out yard. I've seen hundreds of shooting stars, tracked several satellites throughout the years, have seen the space station pass over, and used to be able to point out almost every constellation in out night sky. I have never thought about people never having seen one before!
I mean it's obvious now that I thinknofnit, but it never crossed my mind.

I've seen many, as a child. Once, my mom got us up in the middle of the night to see the Perseid meteor showers in August. Spectacular! I got up this year, but saw nothing. We've gotten too large as a city, and there is too much light pollution. I've vowed to drive out to the country next year to see the meteors.

It's that or aliens. Just kidding. I think it was shooting stars. I've seen shooting stars and it always felt like I'd seen something special. Hey, why should you be kidding?? Maybe it was aliens! I'd love for it to be aliens one day. Yes, we see them often even in the city. We go out and lay on the lawn to watch. Of course it's too light out to see a lot of them but there are always a few. When I lived in Africa though...out in the country side where there was NO electricity, omg. The Milky Way *right* there and the stars just falling out of it.

Once, when I was young. My siblings and I were sleeping in hammocks outside because it was too hot in the house to sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a shooting star. Shortly after, I saw another, and another. I don't recall how many I saw, but I think it was several within an hour or so. I had trouble going back to sleep, because I kept watching to see if there were going to be any more. It's a wonderful memory.

This has been so fun to read and it seems it's almost always a special memory for everyone. Truly wonderful, and now I have that special memory too. I will definitely be watching for more.

You can lay in your bed and look at the water? That sound like heaven!
It does sound like a shooting star. They move fairly quickly, unlike an airplane or satellite, which are slower movers.
When our kids were little, we used to wake them up in the middle of the night and lay on the front lawn (better viewing) on lounge chairs to watch meteor showers. We thought it was funny to imagine what the neighbors' reaction to our antics would be if they saw us.

Yes. December 13, 2012, because I'd always wanted to see a meteor shower, and it seemed like we always had clouds during the Perseids in the summer, I dragged my poor DH, DS and the dogs out to an open space area to watch the Geminids. It was freezing but sat in our chairs drinking hot chocolate and we saw quite a few meteors. The next day the Sandy Hook shootings happened and what was intended to be a bucket list high point for me has forever become associated with a terrible event. The fucking gift that keeps on giving.

When I was a kid we camped a lot as a family. We couldn't go to bed until we saw a shooting star and airplanes and satellites did not count!
So, yes I've seen many, many shooting stars. I love watching for them!
