I have not but I think I saw some at 5:26 am while lying in bed. I was laying there looking at the water, and all of a sudden, I see two bright lights shoot across the windows over the water. I have seen many planes fly at night, and they go much slower and flicker. So, these were not planes. I am pretty sure they must have been shooting stars. So cool for sure. They just streaked across the sky. So, I guess they were shooting stars. Is that what I saw?

I have faith that is what you saw! I saw some many years ago while visiting some relatives out in the country in Kentucky. We were outside enjoying the night air, not fire or city lights to distract the amazing star filled sky. I made a wish, did you?

It's that or aliens. Just kidding. I think it was shooting stars.
I've seen shooting stars and it always felt like I'd seen something special.

I leave for work when it's dark out much of the time. I've seen several and it sounds like you saw a couple too.

That is so funny, Patter, because night before last I thought I saw one over the mountain when I was lying in bed. It would have been about 10:30 p.m. We do get a lot of planes that way coming out of CLT but this light went downward. It was so brief but I still made a wish.

Lots and lots. I used to live in dark Africa where there was very little light pollution. The night sky there is a sight to behold.

I saw one Wednesday night from the back porch of our lake house. We had a houseguest and she saw it too. It was the first one I had seen in years. It was beautiful.

I, too, leave for work when it is dark and always enjoy it when I see one on my way in. I'd say I see a half dozen a year probably.

Since my husband has a kickass telescope, we watch the night sky a lot. Shooting stars are so special. You can't search for them -- they just happen, and if you're lucky you get to see them. Except during the Perseid meteor shower -- you may see lots and lots then. We had overcast skies this year during that, so we didn't see any.

I grew up in the country - we saw them all the time. I would say that's what you saw.

Oh how I miss living in the country, we saw shooting stars all the time. Wish I could remember what I wished for as a kid!

Yes, lots of them. Once we were at the lake and the night sky was so active, we ditched our tent and slept under the stars so we could watch.

Yes - I recall once when we were visiting relatives in FL and we went to the Drive-In to see Jaws 2 - we saw about 5 shooting stars that night - so cool!
I've seen them several other times but that time stands out because saw so many that night.

I love to watch the sky and have since I was a little girl, so I have seen shooting stars. I was surprised however when my 25 yo DD and SIL both said last weekend that they had never seen one. I have obviously failed them miserably and will rectify with family star gazing post haste.

Yep! We used to go out to the country late at night with a bunch of people when I was in college to watch the Perseids and Leonids meteor showers . Haven't done it in years, but might have to do that for the Leonids this year since it's on a holiday weekend.

I remember sleeping outside as a kid watching meteor showers. I never realized there were people who haven't seen them. I am glad you did.

Yes, I see then often while sitting on our front porch. I always make a wish when I see one.
So glad to hear you were able to experience seeing one.

I'm surprised there are people who haven't seen them, but I guess I shouldn't be. I grew up in the country and went to summer camp every year, so I saw tons of them there. My kids and I just saw some a few weeks ago during the Perseid Meteor shower.

All the time growing up. There was very little light pollution then, and I could see shooting stars, the Milky Way, and several different constellations clearly from my backyard. Not so much anymore, but I did have a very bright one pass over me on my way home from work several weeks ago, about the time of the Perseid meteor shower. It really surprised me because I hadn't seen one for so long .

I have a few times. Whenever we go camping, we like to find an open spot (usually by the water) to just sit back and take in the stars if the sky is clear enough. I was SO bummed that the entire weekend when the Perseid shower was peaking was overcast. We were in the UP, at two different campgrounds that were going to have telescopes set up because they were in destinated "dark" spots. I look forward to when we are able to move out of the city.

I have seen lots and lots, but the most memorable was one night when i was a teenager. We were hanging out at a friend's house in the country, and they had a roof that you could sit on. We were sitting out on the roof watching the shooting stars fly by one after another for several hours. It was amazing.

The Persied meteor showers happens every August. I think it is likely. The Leonids are coming in November.

Much better than shooting a seeing star, which I can't discourage enough.
