We are meeting a dog today and I have a feeling we are going to love her. We plan on changing her name but we need some good choices. She is a chocolate lab. We have had one before named Bailey. I would like the name this time to be something more precious. I have always loved the name "Gretel" but I am saving that one if I ever adopt a doxie.
What are your favorite female dog names?

On our short list for our lab were Lucy, Scout, and Zoey, but we settled on Emma. I think you know a name better after you meet the dog. And be warned--I do think dogs have a way of living up to their names. Our neighbor's got a springer spaniel at the same time we got Emma and they named her Stormy. Oh my, she is a force to be reckoned with!

I like Eva. Can't wait to see a photo. My parent's female pup is Penne (sounds like Penny).

Congrats!! I know a lot of people with chocolate labs - and they are ALL (not kidding) named either Maggie or Bella. So...I'd personally choose something more original than those. I always wanted a pet named Snickers.

Do you have a favorite book, movie, or television character? That's where I've gotten most of my pets' names.

Remember that at some point you will be yelling this name as the dog runs down the street and plan accordingly. One of my coworkers named her dog Winter, and she feels dumb yelling 'Winter, get back here!" when the dog bolts.

We had a yellow lab named Callie. My neighbor across the street was named Sally. One day Callie bolted out the front door running up the street. I was yelling for Callie and my neighbor got so upset because she thought I was yelling Sally.
Ok, totally off topic but very funny to me at the time.
I like Coco.

We have an Avery also. Sweetest dog around. And when I try to scold her I say her name in three syllables. She just smiles.

Our current dog is Maggie, a border collie mix. Previous two were Roxy & Abby, both bouvier mixes and the two best dogs ever. One neighbour has a chocolate lab named Duchess and another neighbour had a black lab named Molly.

One of my coworkers named her dog Winter, and she feels dumb yelling 'Winter, get back here!" when the dog bolts. My DD19 was four when she named her then new friend (that just passed ) after our previous 20 year old cat, Star, died. She named the new look-alike... wait for it.........."Starry-I-Love". Thank goodness we have no neighbors. Can you imagine calling out that name? We mostly called her Star or Starry or Kitty anyway. Anytime a new friend came over and asked her cat's name, the answer was always followed by an explanatory... "I was four!!!!" DD always said "Starry I Love" would give her the stink eye whenever someone called her her full name. I don't doubt it or blame her one bit. Don't forget the pictures when you get her. And to tell us her name and stuff!

Our previous dog was named Sandy, as in the Annie musical. A neighbor took care of her for us and she would wander back to our house when she would get let out. So the neighbor would call for Sandy. Guess what the neighbor's name is? Sandy!
