My girl black lab akita is Pia. I wanted Penny at first but DH wanted Pia (swedish) and when we saw her it was Pia.
What about Pepper Lucy Piper Zoe Collie Chloe Echo or Ebony or Ebby (my sister has a black Newfoundland named Ebby) It totally fits her. It's kinda funny how you name them when you see them sometimes and it fits!

I'd go with something related to chocolate... Chocolate synonyms I like Tawny or BonBon (Bonnie?)...if the dog was a boy, Fudge would be a strong contender!

Frances. Then you could call her Baby and never, ever put her in the corner. - Bless you for making me laugh just now.

Remember that at some point you will be yelling this name as the dog runs down the street and plan accordingly. One of my coworkers named her dog Winter, and she feels dumb yelling 'Winter, get back here!" when the dog bolts. My DD19 was four when she named her then new friend (that just passed ) after our previous 20 year old cat, Star, died. She named the new look-alike... wait for it.........."Starry-I-Love". Thank goodness we have no neighbors. Can you imagine calling out that name? We mostly called her Star or Starry or Kitty anyway. Anytime a new friend came over and asked her cat's name, the answer was always followed by an explanatory... "I was four!!!!" DD always said "Starry I Love" would give her the stink eye whenever someone called her her full name. I don't doubt it or blame her one bit. Don't forget the pictures when you get her. And to tell us her name and stuff! Starry-I-Love!

We've had our chocolate lab about 6 weeks. Her name is Ripley. We her. My brother's chocolate lab was named Ripley. I love that name. She was a great dog. ETA: Our female schnauzer is Lizzy. Wouldn't you know that the brother mentioned above went and met a girl named Elizabeth and married her? The first time she visited, I crabbed at the dog "Lizzy, knock it off." My now SIL looked at me funny until she realized I was talking to the dog.

Our neighbors had a chocolate lab named Steve. It was kind of classic and funny when all the other neighborhood dogs had "dog" names. So maybe a real name that people don't usually pick for dogs.

Aww....I can't WAIT to see piks! I love the 2 chocolate labs' piks on this thread.....I think ALL labs are so cute and every lab I've ever been around has always been so SWEET!!
Moxie, Molly, Snickers, and CoCo are cute suggestions, also!
We went through a lot of possi-bull names for our girl when we first got her (she's that tiny puppy in my avatar pik.) We had considered MOLLY or BUBBLES but we ended up loving the name SOPHIE because it really fit her sweet face! We had a sweeet foster bulldog named DAPHNE, which I also liked.
You'll know once you're around her a while....have fun!
