So my sweet 4 pound chihuahua, Mia, lost feeling in her right hind leg on Sunday. We don't remember her jumping or falling off anything, but her leg was just kind of dangling. We thought she might have dislocated something because she didn't seem to be in pain. Took her to the vet yesterday and he first thought it was broken, but after the X-Ray showed no break, he determined it to be nerve damage. He prescribed her cortisone and did a laser treatment that is supposed to stimulate the nerve. We go back for another treatment on Thursday. He said she may or may not recover. He said worst case scenario is we have to take her leg. Anyone have any experience with something similar in their pet?
I would appreciate any positive thoughts and prayers for my baby. She is truly the sweetest lapdog you could ever have and I just hate this for her!
Here's a picture of Mia.

Aww, she's adorable. I hope the laser therapy heals her. No experience, but I did read on it a little last winter when ours was having some back issues. We have a shih tzu who somehow seemed to hurt her back. They say she has nerve damage, but it's not to the same extent. Must have to do with which vertebrae they injure.
Will keep Mia in my thoughts.

No experience with nerve damage. But did want to say I'm sorry and I hope they can fix it.

I have a Pomeranian Chihuahua who once lost all function from his mid back down. He couldn't walk at all. In our case, it was actually caused by an epileptic seizure and he recovered within a week.
I hope you get some more answers.

Your sweet baby is just beautiful! I don't have any experience, but I wish with all my heart a quick and full recovery for dear Mia. Please give her a little love from me.

My dad's Bassett has been on crate rest for four weeks now, along with steroids to refuse swelling around vertebrae. He is doing much better... Toe no longer dragging or turning under
