I am making a list and checking it twice! What are your new found favorites? What ones won't you step in again?

If you have a picky 65y/0 where would go. He won't eat heavily spiced food, onions or garlic.

I am trying to limit chains, except for the Montana grill. Which would be funny because we are from Montana !

I was looking at the ethopian restaurants. Etete has a good review from Fodor but not on yelp. Cuban would be good. Middle eastern Indian Japanese Korean

Then The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Ave near the Newseum.
eta: Ethiopian, Middle Eastern, and Indian foods will all be heavily spiced. There is a good cuban restaurant in Silver Spring called Cubano's - it is somewhat spicy though.
Japanese and Korean depend on what style of cuisine - sushi, hot pot, hibachi/grill in the center of the table, tempura, etc.

Honey Pig in Annandale is a great Korean restaurant. We have one in our neighborhood and we love it. When we go we are usually the only non-Koreans in the restaurant.

You are in luck! DC was just named Bon Appetit's Restaurant City of the Year. We have amazing food as my waistline and pocket book can attest to The 14th Street Corridor and Shaw (my neighborhood) are foodie heaven. One of my favorite restaurants in the city is Le Diplomate on 14th. Unpretentious French bistro. Barcelona on 14th is another favorite for tapas and Spanish food. Shaw has amazing Ethiopian food and is the new hot place in the city to eat. There are also a couple of local chains that you might want to check out. Ted's Bulletin has homemade gourmet pop-tarts. Its sister restaurant, Matchbox, is a solid bet for American food and pizza. You can't go wrong with a Yelp search in Logan Circle, Shaw and even U Street. There are a lot of restaurants downtown that are ok, but neighborhoods are your best bet.

I had brunch with my daughter last week at Ted's Bulletin; the food was very good but the poptart, not so much. I felt like it didn't bake enough.

The Source is my favorite, right by the Newseum. Tell them your preferences when you order.
A couple of weeks ago, I ordered the chef's lunch special and I asked for a substitution on the soup. I got the best sweet corn chowder soup with blue crab meat. So good!!

Oyamel is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. They make the best guacamole I've ever eaten-made fresh at your table.

Fried chicken at Boss Shepherd's! Plus a flight of whiskey if you're in the mood. Check the website menu to be sure they're serving chicken. So good!

DS's favorite is Hill Country Barbecue. We liked Carmine's (Italian) a lot, also Capitol City Brewing Co. We had a wonderful meal at Sequoia in Georgetown, right on the Potomac.
We often ate in Arlington, because the DC restaurants can be hard to get into, and there are lots of good restaurants near the Clarendon Metro station. It was on our way to McLean, where we were staying.
