A couple years ago I bought the Memory Box Arboscello tree die. I used it for the first time last week. It does not work. The middle doesn't cut. (I have a Cuttlebug.) I tried all different kinds of shims and almost broken one of the plates. I have no idea where I bought it from. Do you think I can contact Memory Box about returning it?

It can't hurt to contact them. I would.

I would try contacting them, BUT
Have you tried using a bit of scotch tape to shim just the part that isn't cutting? That's one of their suggestions for intricate dies where a part doesn't cut. If you shim the whole die, you're making the whole sandwich thicker; sometimes it works better to shim just the part that isn't cutting.

Also what do your plates look like? Are they really old and warped? I'd try cutting with new plates to see if that makes a difference.
Some other ideas - flip the die e.g. cut down if you were trying to cut with the die facing up and vice versa. Rotate the die and cut in a different part of the plate.

I had an issue with the first Memory Box wafer die I bought. So long ago I can't even recall which one it was... But I contacted them directly and this is what they suggested. It worked but what I found to make the biggest difference was a metal shim. I can't recall where I got it-probably SSS-and it was the key to me getting good cuts. Sizzix has a type of shim out now too-much thicker and you can find it at Michaels. I have that and it works well too. I don't have to tape anything anymore.

Great idea, streetscrapper ! I would contact Memory Box. I had a die like that from Taylored Expressions, and when I contacted them, they asked me to send them photos of the incomplete cuts as well as the face of the cutting plate. I did that and they sent me a new die at no cost to me. The new die works perfectly! Another thing you could try is to turn the die sideways and try it at a different part of the cutting plate. Good luck! Let us know what happens!

A friend with a Cuttlebug had a problem with an intricate Spellbinders die. It cut perfect without any shims in the Big Shot. She couldn't believe how much difference there was, no shimming needed in the Big Shot.
Is there anyone close by with a Big Shot so you can try it? If not, I know someone mentioned cutting with it up or down, opposite to what you've been doing. Also, try turning it and/or going more to one side.

Place small prices of scrapbook paper over the part of the die that isn't cutting. Sometimes those areas need a little more shimming.

I have tried all the suggestions mentioned, except the tape or bits of cardstock right on the part where the die doesn't cut. I have used both old and new plates. I flipped the die over to cut up and to cut down. Tried different sides of the plates. I don't know anyone close to has a Big Shot.
Thanks to everyone.

Trish If none of this works, then contact Memory box. Have your photos ready of the incomplete cuts and the cutting edge of the die. I have a couple of Christmas dies from IO that are disappointing, and after my success with TE, I might just contact them as well. My TE die didn't work in the Vagabond, so it wasn't an issue with the cutter.

I contacted Memory Box and they sent me a new die. And that one doesn't work either. I have send another email to them, after trying all the above mentioned suggestions.

warrior1991 so frustrating! What kind of paper/card stock are you using? Just wondering if it's card stock whether it might be too heavy. Also did you try the tape over the bit that's not cutting well? Here's a video from Memory Box which talks about that.

anniefb I've tried the cheap Wal-Mart cardstock, and stuff from Stampin Up. I didn't use tape but I used another piece of cardstock right over the middle of the tree, that is the part that doesn't cut. Barely embosses it.

I'd never heard of the tape idea. Good to know.
Maybe it's the die that's the problem, especially since you've tried two. It could just be that there was a problem with the specs and all of them were cut unevenly or too thin in that one spot. I'm not a machinist or anything. Just a random thought.

I tried the masking tape idea last night and since the whole middle of the die doesn't cut, I had to put my "spot shim" over the whole tree. After 3 layers of tape, it was almost cutting through completely. I will probably try 4 layers, but I ran out of time last night. I don't know how to add photos here, otherwise I would share pics.

So glad that I am not the only one with this issue. I have been using my basic shaped nestabilities for years in my cuttlebug with zero problems and recently bought a few of the smaller and more intricate shim dies, well the one that looks like a doily cuts terribly. I did only play with it for a few minutes but even shimming with three layers did not help, thinking that maybe switching over to thinner paper rather than cardstock could help me.
