So I have a collection of magazines . . . all the way back to 2001 that included Sommerset Studio, The Rubber Stamper, Vamp Stamp News, Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, and Simple Scrapbooks to name a few. They take up two shelves in my craft space. I seriously haven't looked through them in about 4 years. Some of them are marked with post-its of my favorite things in the magazine. I have looked at them in the past 2 weeks and seriously keep myself from recycling them . . . WHY? I don't have the time to go back and tear out the good ideas, or do I? I have time to "pea". Aurgh, what say you peas? Just bit the bullet and recycle or keep storing those little gems?

I went back through my magazines pretty ruthlessly a while ago and kept only the ones I really loved (this was 6 years ago, mind you) and I packed them in a box to move with us out of state. I have yet to re-open those boxes. :X

They aren't gems anymore there are all kinds of cool stuff on pinterest. If they were gems you would have made the stuff you bookmarked. At least with pinterest it won't take up space in your room. Anything from 2001 to me would be very outdated and you've probably grown creatively since then. Toss or recycle and don't look back lol!

For the magazines I had full years worth to get rid of, I asked the library if they wanted them and they did! So I donated them for the library's collection.

I had almost every issue of Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, PaperKuts, Ivy Cottage, Simple Scrapbooks, BH&G Scrapbooks etc. plus the special edition mags/books. I was ruthless in my last move and I kept a few copies of each, let me tell you it was not easy letting go. I used to live by a Michael's and I would go there every week with their coupon and I have so many old sticker packs that are not my style but I can't bare to part with them because what if something on them is just perfect for a future layout. Like someday we might actually go to Disney World. LOL. I have them in 2 huge Ziplock bags so they don't take up that much space so I keep them. What is really sad though is I have a young daughter who would probably like them but I don't want her to take any either. It's a sickness I tell ya.

Maybe you should keep a few in your car and when you find you are waiting for an appointment or kids or husband or whatever, you can look through them at your leisure. Keep a few by the couch or in the kitchen. You may realize after going back a few years that it is all you need to do.

I went through my magazine hoard when I was redoing my craftroom. Basically flipped through each and checked out the pages with sticky notes on them. If I still liked the idea I had marked, I tore out that page to keep. Otherwise, I just let the whole magazine go. I have to admit I have never gone back to the pages I have saved, but they made me feel better about tossing the rest, so maybe they have done their job

Anything from 2001 to me would be very outdated and you've probably grown creatively since then. Toss or recycle and don't look back lol! Absolutely! I couldn't agree more! I was standing in line at Michaels the other day and noticed only one scrapbooking magazine. I didn't even pick it up. There was a time when I subscribed to every scrapping magazine out there and couldn't wait for them to be delivered. Now with Pinterest I can look any time I want and always find new ideas. I tossed my magazines years ago. I did the "responsible purge" and went through all of them tearing out pages I wanted but eventually most of those pages ended up in the trash as well. I still have a binder of some of those pages but I honestly never even look at it. This post has reminded me that it's time to toss that in the recycling now too!

I finally got rid of all my magazines earlier this year. I, too, had page flags all over the place. But when I went back and looked at what I had marked, I either didn't like it any more, it looked dated to me or I just knew I would never do it due to time/degree of difficulty.
I have not missed them at all. And I loved getting rid of those 2 big copy paper-sized boxes.

I tossed every one of mine when we were preparing for our remodel. Honestly, styles have changed, mine included. I looked through them and pulled out a few pages.
I have never regretted it or missed them.

Sat and went through a dozen 2005-06 Memory Makers magazines. Found the one where Jessica Sprague was selected as a MMM These don't have flags, so I'm going through pretty quickly. Doing this while DH watches football and I don't need to be on FB. Thanks for the push to just go through and do it!

I dumped all my magazines (except the one I was published in) years ago and haven't missed them once.
I really should use or get rid of the bulk of my buttons.

I was always too cheap to subscribe, but do regret not doing so with Simple Scrapbooks. I think some pages do stand the test of time.
I need to purge stamps. I rarely use them, but go back and look at the images and think I should. I have the stamping abilities of a 5 year old.

Years ago, I went through and tore out my favorite pages. I had a stack of them for inspiration -- THAT I NEVER USED! I am so with canadianscrappergirl on this one.

I had to get rid of all my old Junkitz stuff, my MM embellishments and paper and everything. Getting rid of my Advantus Heidi Swapp junk was very easy to ditch. That stuff was gone before the count of three. The MM stuff I kept some of. All the L'il Davis stuff is gone too. Yay.

Smash books and the cute stuff that goes in them. I bought books for myself and both my kids because I thought it would be a fun summer project. That was a couple of years ago. I have a box full of things that sit untouched. I'm keeping them because I might use them, but it is taking up real-estate. Sometimes I think about selling it all. Ugh!

I have all my Smash stuff to find eventually. That stuff can all go.
I kept a lot of Chatterbox because I loved it. I only kept the walls I liked but I kept the embellishments and stuff that I loved. I still have tons more stuff to go through and get rid of, though. I mean tons. I have a tote of embellishments in a corner of the room that is blocked by an air hockey table and I need someone to move it so I can use the stuff in there. I am sure there is good "stuff" in that one and just need to go through it. I just can't access it right now. Must get on that soon as I want as much stuff donated as possible. Maybe it will get done tonight if I am feeling ambitious! That would be a miracle in and of itself!
I have had family members (Dad) tell me he would sit with me while I purged, too. I need someone there who is unbiased who can just nod in agreement that this should go or that should stay. He will do that for me. He promised he would. (I could put on the TV in the basement, too, but I don't know how to turn it on. Nor do I know what to watch as I don't watch TV). YouTube music helps. I listen to it all day long. I think I am thinking out loud, too! Thanks for listening to me ramble!

I can't seem to get rid of chipboard alphas, even though I never ever use them. I have BG, heidi swapp and scenic route just hanging out in a mini milk crate.
they are just like chipboard thickers, so why don't I ever use them? and seriously, why the hell can't I let them go?!

I hung on to my magazines for years! And then when two peas gallery was the hottest place for layout ideas and magazines started to go out of business, I finally tossed them in the recycle bin! Now saying that, I can not purge any of my other stuff!! The thought of getting rid of anything gives me the shakes ! But to be fair, I think I have a pretty moderate stash for having been scrapbooking for the past 19 years. It's definitely not as large as some I have seen.

I was way too cheap to subscribe to anything - used to get magazines from the library.
I have a hard time purging stamps but am going to have to have another clear out since I'm running out of space in my 2 storage boxes.

I really should use or get rid of the bulk of my buttons. NO!! I love buttons! They're good for other crafts too. I can't seem to get rid of chipboard alphas, even though I never ever use them. This I'm guilty of. Chinagirl828 , I think chipboard alphas should be on the next monthly stash challenge. I have a hard time purging stamps but am going to have to have another clear out since I'm running out of space in my 2 storage boxes. I used to be a SU demonstrator, so I did purge stamps back in 2011. I now teach kids crafting when I can (art journaling/scrapbooking), so I would not purge again. If it's not my most loved, I don't care so much if it gets ruined.

Consider it done! I'm guilty of holding onto frames (which I almost never use) and I still have a small stash of Maya Road chipboard label holders which I know I should get rid of but somehow still can't.
