more books about it? In the last few years, it seems that once a read a book on a subject, it turns into 8 books about it. For a while I was reading every book I could on the FLDS. Once I read one I needed to hear more about it and fill in the gaps from the first book. Then it was about various chefs and how they got started. Then it was the mafia and some of the kids and whether or not they continued in the organization. Now it's Hells Angels. I'm almost though with a book about the local chapter and I've got 3 other books lined up to read afterwards, all about the group. DH says I'm obsessed. I told him I'm just filling in the gaps.

I do that, too. I get real interested in something and I need to know MORE.

Sometimes, yes, but lately it seems that I have so many topics that I'm interested in that I'm getting scattered. I read part of a book, pick up another and read part . . . . and never finish anything.
FLDS is one of the topics that I'm interested in, too! Any recommendations for good books on their . . . um . . . . "religion"?

I do that sometimes. After watching The Tudors, I read several books on Henry VIII and the wives. After seeing the Ken Burns series on The Dust Bowl, I'm currently reading The Worst Hard Times about the Dust Bowl. When we lived in Germany I read many books about the Holocaust.

Sometimes, but I'm more likely to go on a Google bender about the subject. I especially do it with movies that are "based on a true story." I' m compelled to Google the real truth. :-)

I do that sometimes. After watching The Tudors, I read several books on Henry VIII and the wives. I've also read several books on the Tudors, only before the series came out. I was elated when I found out about the Showtime series and now own it. I have an unexplained obsession with the Tudors.

I do that, too. I get real interested in something and I need to know MORE. I'm the same way. I google a lot and get books to read about different things. I always like learning new things

Remember in school, how you were almost force fed different topics, and expected to remember them and learn from them? I love the concept of reading one book about a topic, and then pursuing that topic until your curiosity is satisfied.
Keep reading! Knowledge is Power!

I do, sometimes. It depends on the subject matter.

Sometimes, but I'm more likely to go on a Google bender about the subject. If it's historical fiction sometimes I'll google to see which characters were based on real people, what actually happened etc.

I do. When I find something that sparks my interest I need to know everything about it and will read or research the subject until I am satisfied with the knowledge I gained then I start the same cycle over again with a new subject.

I am like this. I call it being a collector of information.
When I decided to homeschool I read every single thing I could find on the subject.
I had a Tudor kick way before the series was on.
Lately, I have been reading a lot of information on flipping the classroom.
The problem with some of my topics is that I can't find the books I need from the library so I end up with tons of books on one topic. This can get really expensive.

Robby Kay, this is the premise behind the Unschooling movement. It takes a person that is extremely curious to be successful learning this way.

No, I don't. But DH does and then some. He pretty much obsesses over whatever his curiosity of the month is. It drives me a little nutty. He tends to latch on to some pretty random things at times.

Yes! I do this all the time...sometimes I feel like I turn into a fanatic about a new subject/area of interest.

I am like this. I call it being a collector of information. I love this! I do this a lot with places we visit-we just vacationed in West Virginia and I've ordered books about coal mining! When we lived overseas, I bought a LOT of books about the different countries we visited.

Sometimes, but I'm more likely to go on a Google bender about the subject. I especially do it with movies that are "based on a true story." I' m compelled to Google the real truth. :-) So I finished one Hells Angels book, started another and then started Googling. I googled photos, locations, different chapters, websites. Turns out our local one has an interactive website. I think it's got a code to get in from what I've read and I spent an hour trying to figure it out. DH came home and I asked him to help since he's an IT guy. He told me he'd just drive me to the clubhouse that I googled the crap out of and I can knock and say pretty please. Then he shook his head, told me to stop and went in the other room. Then he yelled that I was obsessed again. Lol

I do that all the time. From foot binding to all the US wars to Henry VIII to you name it. That's actually one of my favorite things about reading...learning something new.

I do. And I think my son inherited this trait, because he does it even more intensely than I do.

I often gorge on a subject. I read 3-4 books about FLDS, I was very curious about what happened to the lost boys. As sad as it is for the girls/women, being cast out like the extra boys seems even more brutal.
Other serious binges: -hoarding -WWII, later the Holocaust -espionage -agriculture & ecology in the USSR
Yup, lots of book benders for me.

My obsession is stories about people who climb Everest, so after I read Into Thin Air, I started reading other books on Everest and K2. There's something fascinating to me about people who engage in an activity knowing there's a really good chance they'll die.

Not books as much as research online or if there happens to be a documentary on the the topic.
