I have a Jarts game! I found it at a yard sale and just had to have it! I admit we don't let the grandkids play with it, but we do bring it out at barbeques!

I love Jarts. One of my siblings has the set from when we were kids and even has the box. We took great care of our stuff. The newer aka safer style just doesn't work as well.
We were actually good about using suntan lotion.

That goat was eyeballing that kids crotch like he was looking for a snack.

I get a bit annoyed by these types of lists.  On one hand I get the amusement and do think we sometimes get a bit crazy about some of this stuff, some go overboard etc.

However there are safety legislations and precautions for a reason and some of them are very valid.  Yes, those of us posting online and laughing about it survived.  But there were many that did not and would have if their parents had known and done things the way they are done today.

Or like my husband suffered from asthma and respiratory health problems as a child and still does.  He was in and out of the hospital his whole first year with issues.  I'm sure his mother's constant smoking didn't have anything to do with any of it....

Those are all great. I so remember the metal playground equipment. Ouch.

I still have our lawn jarts set and have *gasp* let my grandkids play with them on occasion. 

Yes, I survived all of that too! I think I'm one of the kids on the slide.

I was already an adult in the 70s.... I used seatbelts religiously. We had them when my dad installed them before they were even required. And I probably wouldn't be here if it were not for the seatbelts I wore back in the 60s. My aunt and uncle were part of the beach crowd and California back in the 60s and 70s. They both have dealt with and are now dealing with melanoma. My neighbors perfectly healthy child was horribly brain-damaged when he was flung about in a car accident. So, yes, we had more freedom. But there are also some sacrifices there.
We also had a time when every time you went to the doctor you got a shot of penicillin whether you had a bacterial infection or not. And septic tanks emptied straight into creeks rather than Leach fields. And shock therapy was treatment for depression. Everyone got chickenpox measles, two kinds, and mumps. And many of us have the scars from those diseases ......

Like others said, there are reasons for those changes.

And, we drank out of the hose.  Granted, at that time our hoses probably were American made, not Made in China.

I broke my collar bone a few weeks before starting kindergarten because my mom used to let us sit in the back of her station wagon.

This was in 1975.

We would sit in the back with our backs up against the rear door - she turned a corner, the door flew open and I flew out. I did a flew flips and ended up head planted it into the road. The neighbor girl fell out and eneded up with pretty bad road rash (and her parents never let her come anywhere with us again).

When my mom realized what happened she slammed on her breaks and my nephew (11 months younger than I) flew forward all the way into the front seat and landed on the floorboard of the passenger seat.

I started school with my arm in a big ol cast/brace thing but I was instantly famous for flying out of the back of my mom's car.

After that...we were forced to sit properly - I could have been the poster child for seat-belt laws!
