My mom has Lewy Body Dementia and is in a memory care home in Idaho. DS and I flew in yesterday and are here for a week to see her. When we walked into her room yesterday, she had no idea who we were.
I always knew there would be a time when that would happen and each visit I thought I had prepared myself for it, but now that its happened I'm having such a hard time.
We'll continue to go see her everyday as planned, and maybe today or tomorrow will be better, and maybe it won't.
I hate this disease.

I am so, so sorry. We lived through that with my grandmother and I know how it feels. So many hugs and good thoughts for you.

My MIL has vascular dementia and is also in a memory care unit and it is so very hard to see her struggling with it. Most days she knows us, some days she says our faces look familiar but doesn't know our names. The worse thing we have to contend with is that she asks for her mom and dad every single day. He go and see her every day because we remember her and how she used to be. It doesn't matter if she doesn't remember us. She likes having the company.

There is no amount of preparing you can do for something like this. I am so sorry.

My grandma had dementia and she didn't know me. She knew my mom still, but no one else. But she loved visitors, so she was always happy to see you. LOVED it when kids would stop in.
It is a horrible disease and affects so many people. I am sorry you are going through this, and I would give you a hug if I could.

I'm so sorry. We went through that when my Dad had dementia and it was shocking and scary and emotional so I am so sorry that you - well really anyone - has to face this ever of not being recognized or known by their own parent.
Hugs.

Prayers that you can take each day as a gift and that you can find peace and bring some joy into both your time with your mom and her's with you.

Of course you're having a hard time. There's no way to really know how you're going to feel until you experience it. I hope she has a better day today.

I am so sorry. My great aunt who was like a grandmother to me had dementia in her later years. It was heartbreaking. I remember how it felt when she no longer recognized me and it hurt. For a long while she thought my DD was me.

I'm so sorry. I went through this with my grandmother and I know it must be so much more difficult with a parent.

Oh hugs to you. I haven't dealt with that in my life, so I have no idea what that is like, but I can only imagine the pain it causes. Hoping for a better day today.
