Update 2-10-17
P passed away last night in Houston. Everyone is devastated. His wife was called down Sunday so she at least was able to be with him. Please pray for her and those 6 precious children. The town they live in is small (500ish, if even that) and very tight-knit, so this affects the whole community.
Thank you.
**************** Original ****************
I found out a few days ago that an acquaintance (P) has stage 4 kidney cancer. He has mets in his chest cavity, spine, ribs & lung. Two biggest tumors are baseball-sized. He didn't even know he was ill, just thought he'd pulled his back & was having trouble working the kinks out. Finally went to the doctor and BAM. Life as he knew it was gone.
Heartbreaking under any circumstances, right?
P is around 40 and has 4 young children. His wife, J, is due with twin boys in a couple of weeks (so really, any time). There is an anticipated problem with one of the twins. I'm not sure what that is, just that they are monitoring very closely.
I just. Can't. Imagine.
Is there room on the prayer list for them?
I also want to mention that he left yesterday for Houston, where dazeepetals works. I'm told he's in the best hands possible.

Oh my, when it rains it pours!
Prayers for them, they must surely be in shock. That's a lot to deal with at once.

They do both come from rather large families, so there will be a good support system for them. I believe some siblings went to Houston with him since his wife can't travel. Their employer is also generous and is currently in a battle as well, so hopefully they will be taken care of in that regard.
Your prayers are very much appreciated. My heart is just so heavy for all of these diagnoses.

I'm so sorry your friend is dealing with this. To hear you have stage 4 cancer when you thought you just had a minor back issue had to have been horribly shocking for their family. They will be in my prayers and I so hope that his medical team is top notch and can turn this around into remission for him. Please let us know how he is progressing when you can.

Such a sad time for your friend and his family. MD Anderson is one of the top places in the world for him to be.

I've worked with cancer, Leukemia specifically, for over 9 years down here. It's not an easy job, but can be very rewarding. However, when cancer hits you on a personal level it's a different ballgame. Trust me, I know. My mom is fighting, and losing, brain cancer. She's finally (after months of pleading) coming down here to hear her options. MD Anderson is a remarkable place. It's hard seeing other hospitals when I've been spoiled by the top notch care that I see delivered here everyday. Your friends husband will be in good hands down here!!

That is truly heartbreaking. Who would expect that at 40? I hope he is one of the lucky ones. Many good thoughts headed his and his family's way.

I've been having so much trouble with how cruel life is. Here is another example. I hope that he doesn't undergo treatments that make him more ill. My experiences with my sister have made me even more wary of chemo and radiation treatments than I already was. I hope he will get to meet his twins.
This is just so horrible on so many levels. Awful.

DH was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer 9-1/2 years ago. There are some real advances in the treatment of renal cancer recently. It sounds like he may be going to MD Anderson, which is great. Pray that the new immunotherapy treatments will work for him.
