I'm going to see "The Girl On the Train" on Saturday night with my ladies meetup.com group that I run I'm looking forward to it ... we read it for our Book Club a number of months ago and most people enjoyed it ... It looks like it takes place in New York in the film instead of in England ... I wonder why Anyone else planning on seeing it? ETA: We went to see it last night and we all really liked it Emily Blunt was awesome as Rachel I recommend this as a girls night or a date night movie

I read the book which I enjoyed very much. I know what happens so I have no interest in the movie. I do appreciate that it looks from the trailer that it looks like the stuck to the book.

I can't wait! I listened to the audiobook and loved the accents. But I gather the movie took place in NYC to have an all American cast.

I thought the book was unseemly, but my Book Club read it and I think we are going to see it together.

I will be going to see it as well. Not this weekend, though, but sometime this month.
And popcorn will definitely be involved.

I will be going to see it. A friend lent me the book but I haven't had a chance to read it. Debating on whether I should bother or just go see the movie lol.

I can't wait! I listened to the audiobook and loved the accents. But I gather the movie took place in NYC to have an all American cast. As well as Emily Blunt who is British. Rebecca Ferguson who plays Anna is Swedish and Luke Evans who plays Scott is Welsh so hardly an American cast. The author of the book didn't really care where it was filmed. She said it could have taken place in any commuter city, she just happened to base the story in London. She also wasn't interested in having any input in the production of it either.

She gave the impression that she really wasn't interested in the film. Like you, I hope they haven't.

I loved the book but would have preferred they kept the setting in England. However I will probably still see the movie.

I read an article about it that said that they wanted Emily Blunt to keep her normal British accent as a way to further emphasize that she was an outsider, that she didn't fit in to the world of the houses that she saw. I'm not sure why they set it in NYC but the director said that he thought it would be good to have the beautiful, classic houses along the Main Line shown to emphasize how "perfect" that life seemed to Rachel and what a contrast it was to her mess of a life.

i read the book and enjoyed it. i don't remember the ending so i guess the movie will still be suspenseful for me! i am more of a netflix/dvd kinda girl...unless it's movies like big hero six, star wars or harry potter... i have seen some pretty cool movies with my kids.

zero interest here. I tried reading the book - and only made it to page 34 before giving up due to lack of interest

This is one of those movies where I think the movie will be better than the book. I really was disgusted with the main character but I really like Emily Blunt so I have high hopes.

I just started reading the book recently. When a movie is based on a book I've read I'm usually disappointed in the movie so I'm not sure if I want to see the movie.

I know what you mean ... a recent example of a good film adaptation though was "Gone Girl" I'm also told that "Room" is great but I haven't seen it ...

I really liked the book so I'm very much looking forward to the movie. I kind of wish they had stayed true to the location, but I agree with the author--it could happen any place where there's a city and people ride a train to work. Except I don't know about gin and tonic in the can--do we have those here? The thing that surpised me was the casting. I love Emily Blunt and think she's a great acress. I'm sure she'll do a good job and they definitely made her look plain, but the main character in the book is kind of dumpy. In her prime she was curvy and has now let herself go. Emily is neither of those things--curvy or dumpy. I kind of wish they had cast someone who fit that bill more.

I tried twice to read it but couldn't make it past the first chapter either time. It just didn't interest me. I like who they have cast in the movie so I'll probably watch it when it comes out on dvd.
