Yeah, we've started having issues around here as well. Just sitings so far, but it's only a matter of time before someone takes it too far. I agree - what's wrong w/people? And I also agree that it probably started off as some lame stunt or simple post somewhere and has completely snowballed. My son just told me that some kids on a college campus (Penn State?) chased & treed a clown. Have no idea if that's actually true, but . . . While it's kinda funny now, it's only a matter of time before one of these asshats gets themselves shot. People really need to get a life. My daughter just told me about Penn State. Her friends that graduated last year go there and one sent her a video of the kids chasing the "clown".

I hate clowns, but come on! I'm not going to do anything different. My stupid town had a FB posting today. Someone started a page and wants to meet kids at the park. Their profile pic is the clown from American Horror story. Then there was a shared post from a woman that lives South of me. Of course it must be true some kid was stabbed by a clown, but the police are keeping it quiet.

We got an update from the school. An instagram account or post was made with clowns threatening the school, and the person that started it has already been apprehended and is in police custody.
Then I saw on the news a clown chased parents and kids this morning near a school. WTH?

There was a 16 year old fatally stabbed in Reading PA by someone wearing a clown mask last week.
We just received a school update that there has been threats made across the state today; but the state police feel they are probably not credible. There are going to be police at the high and middle schools in our district; because the last threat included middle schools.

Last week our students were saying there was a clown nearby trying to abduct someone. Not true.

I absolutely love my DIL. Many years ago she saw an ad (I can't remember where) for CLOWN PORN. As if clowns weren't creepy enough.

There are YouTube videos galore of kids (guys in their late teen/early twenties, it seems) 'innocently' walking along when they suddenly 'come across' a clown who then proceeds to chase them. It's laughable.

It's only a matter of time before some nut job shoots one of them. I would think that with that amount of people who legally (or illegally) carry guns and the amount of people who literally hate clowns, it wouldn't be safe to be pulling off these stunts. At this point, it can't just be considered a stunt. If you (general "you") know that people dressed or posing online as clowns have made threats to schools, it is not a safe activity to dress as a clown outside. And if I saw a random clown outside anywhere, I would immediately assume that person is up to no good, at the very least, and an actual threat, at worst.

If someone is dumb enough to dress up like a clown and then go chasing people or stalking them or making threats to schools, well, they deserve whatever it is they get. I'm pretty sure no-one will be upset if a clown gets shot while acting like an asshole.

I feel like it is the next big thing. Most people are doing it for a rush and then there are a few crazies out there too. You just don't know which clown you are meeting. I would think that with that amount of people who legally (or illegally) carry guns and the amount of people who literally hate clowns, it wouldn't be safe to be pulling off these stunts. The police department in the next town over from here posted a warning on Facebook about the clowns. It was more a warning to people thinking about copy catting to really think twice. The message made a point of reminding people that it's now legal to conceal carry without a permit in this state and you never know who's packing. No joke. We had a guy on neighborhood message board suggest shooting our suburban coyote. Crazy clowns need to be on guard, they aren't the only lunatics in town.

I read this article the other day which I thought was kind of interesting. How it's this societal phenomenon type thing. articleI'm a child of the 80s and remember being terrified by the movie It. Nightmares for days. I don't think I would have a good reaction if I encountered one of these clowns.

The clowns have hit my little small town. First it was being spotted in the trees by our elementary school several times a day, in different areas for 3 or 4 days. Then it started appearing along some popular walking trails and threatening women with a weapon.
It hasn't been caught so women are walking in groups and one or more are armed. It hasn't been spotted since the report of women being armed. Hopefully that was enough to warn off the idiot.

I'm annoyed as well - one of our middle and high school students parents shared a post her daughter had seen on Facebook and Snapchat about clowns entering and killing students at both schools today. Parents are both annoyed and a bit scared as well for their kids and a lot of students were a bit on edge about going to school.
I wish the copycats would stop terrorizing people, it's getting way out of hand.

Are these clowns actually doing anything nefarious? I don't like clowns but don't get the "oh no I saw a clown we're going to die" clown sighting hysteria. Aren't they remaking the movie/mini series IT by Stephen King? Maybe it's a publicity stunt. There was one in a car wash near my home at 245 in the morning, standing in one of the bays, waving. It made me laugh until the person who filmed him stated that the clown started following his car. It's only a matter of time before some nut job shoots one of them. Who's the nut job? If I had a clown jump at me or follow me & make a threat, chances are he's going to get shot. I think these people dressing up as clowns are the nut jobs, not the innocent protecting themselves. I also think the media has blown this way out of proportion.

I know it's not funny, but turning on the news yesterday, and hearing the news anchor say, "There have been numerous clown sightings around the Chicagoland area" just made me laugh. I mean...it needs to stop, yes. It's unnerving because there are so many whackos out there. I just never thought I'd hear that statement at the top of the news hour.

It's getting crazy. There are pictures of one with a knife in front of my son's school. Apparently happened around 430 yesterday. Someone else said their daughter's car was chased by one. She had stayed late to decorate for homecoming and was driving home and slowed down to avoid hitting him as he was in the middle of the street. She slowed and then he started chasing her scared the you know what out of her.
It's getting crazy oh another school across from a park two clowns were in the park staring at kids on the playground why no one called the police I don't know. Supposedly several kids started crying why would someone do that to little kids.

I just got a text from my daughter asking if her school was on lockdown. The middle school rumor mill had it that because of a clown threat they were locked-down. In reality, in an adjacent school district there was a boy arrested s day or two ago for making a clown threat. Now there have been threats to her school and the district is trying to be extra cautious. It is crazy. And seriously, I think what kind of world is it that my daughter just has to text to check if she is on lock down.

Thank you for also seeing some humor in this! I felt really guilty a couple hours ago for bursting out laughing when I received a robocall from my child's high school referencing a "recent clown threat". Oh, and I live in Florida so you KNOW somebody is going to shoot a clown around here.

linkjust had an attempted kidnapping in NorCal CONCORD (CBS SF) — A suspect dressed as a clown tried to kidnap a child in Concord, police said. Police responded to the area of Willow Pass Road and Waterworld Parkway after a woman reported the attempted kidnapping around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the suspect had a blue hat over blue curly hair, wearing a rainbow colored outfit with polkadots. No other information about the suspect was immediately available. what this does not say, but an article texted to me by my son did say...is it was a 1 year old girl. Mom was waiting for a bus with her daughter when approached by a man dressed as a clown, he tried to take from mom's arms, but mom kicked him in the shin

I wish people would stop making a big deal about it. Their clowns. People think they are being funny and others are blowing it up likes its a serious crime. People are literally calling the police saying, "this person dressed like a clown was looking at me." Seriously people, stop it. A local school went on lock down over a "clown-siting".

We just got letters from both our middle and elementary schooltoday about what to do if there is a clown sighting and that there are extra security patrols going on and how the clowns can't get inside the school because all the schools have to buzz you in. It's kind of ridiculous that they have to tell us this stuff.
Kids walking home from school were talking about Pennywise (elementary kids!).

They said on our local news that some teens were arrested today for this. They haven't said what the full charges will be. Some schools had threats. It's down right creepy. I just don't understand why someone would think this is a fun idea even if it's just to 'scare some people'. I am surprised how wide spread it is. Scary trend if you wanna call it that I don't know what it is just hope it doesn't get too out of control. I can see why parents are on edge with it.

It's hit our school also. We had parents sharing photos of a clown in front of our school along with a threat. We had extra officers in our school today. The kids were freaked out and I had to reassure them All day that they were safe from clowns while in the building. It's ridiculous. The sheriff's dept had to issue a warning about it this afternoon.

People are literally calling the police saying, "this person dressed like a clown was looking at me." Seriously people, stop it. A local school went on lock down over a "clown-siting". First, they're clowns. Second, it is not normal to see a clown outside of a children's hospital, circus, child's birthday party or Halloween. So yeah, it is suspicious to see one just hanging around somewhere. And if you've read any of this thread, there ARE things being done by some of these random clowns, things that aren't okay, aren't normal, and are thing to be concerned about.

14 Yr Old Confesses to Clown Prank in WacoWACO, Texas (KWTX) A Waco teenager has admitted he was responsible for a so-called “Creepy Clown” Facebook post in which he threatened to kill people at two local high schools, Waco ISD spokesman Bruce Gietzen said in press release Wednesday afternoon. The social media threat posted last Thursday night said: “Yea first we going to Waco High then we going to University and we gone kill everybody.” The McLennan County District Attorney's Office issued a subpoena to Facebook in an effort to identify the poster. Facebook provided information that led investigators to the culprit. The14-year-old Waco High School freshman, confessed a short time after he was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, Gietzen said. He admitted that he created a fake Facebook profile and name in order to play jokes and scare people, he said. The teenager is charged with making a terroristic threat, Waco ISD Police Chief Ken Boatman said. Boatman said both the boy and his mother are cooperating with officers. Investigators are trying to determine whether the teenager was responsible for threats against any other Waco-area school districts, Gietzen said. The district is now trying to determine how much government funding the district lost after worried parents took their children out of school in response to the threat, Waco Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain said. “I am so proud of the Waco ISD police force for finding the person who caused such a disruption last Friday,” she said. “I am grateful to District Attorney Abel Reyna's office for providing subpoenas and to Facebook quickly responding to those legal requests to help determine the identity of that young man.”
