Dd is turning 11 tomorrow. I kept thinking I'd come up with something great for her but I just haven't. My mom and dad are doing an experience (ballet) and she had a party and received a couple of GC from her friends. She doesn't really need anything else.
She loves books, board games, cards, movies, and dancing. She hates clothes shopping / clothes presents.
Would love to have something to give her. Doesn't have to be big but would love it to be something that makes her smile. Any ideas. I find tweens hard to shop for. Thx!

Journal art supplies something crafty-my 10 yr old learned to latch hook and cross stitch this summer-maybe an easy kit of one of these iTunes gift card PJ's-I swear, my daughter went crazy over a new nightgown!! Ha! Devotional book for tween/students

Oh nix the PJ's/nightgown-just saw that she doesn't like clothes-related gifts!! Actually, she likes PJs. But I'm the mom who bought her a new pair of PJs 2 weeks ago because she needed them. I totally wasn't thinking about her birthday 2 weeks ago.

I would make a movie basket for her. Get her a blu ray of something she loves and fill the basket with microwave popcorn, her favorite candy, a pair of cozy socks, and a new fleece blanket to snuggle under while she watches the movie.

I got a small ring with a small birthstone in it for one of my tween/teen years.
I also got a charm bracelet on one of them.
Lost the bracelet within a year, still have the ring.

mine turned 10 on Monday - her big gift was Snap Circuits and she was thrilled! We had a couple of those sets at about that tween age. DD probably used them more than DS! For birthdays, I usually do -something to watch -something to read -something for fun -something wacky At that age, DD liked the Dangerous Book For Girls and musicals. I probably got her a pair of earrings as well. And probably something artsy. On my Amazon orders, I see she got both an ice cream maker (ball that you roll around) for her birthday and a ice shaver and flavored to make snow cones for Christmas. I'd forgotten that's! It wasn't easy to find a snow cone maker and flavones in December!

Since she likes dancing, does she have an MP3 or iPod? If so, gift cards for music might be something fun. Another thing she might like would be any of the Just Dance games if you have a gaming system and she doesn't already have them. They're fun to play alone or with friends, and they're good exercise.

We have the just dance app on our Apple TV. She loves it! No iPod but she's not in to music yet.

My DD (also 11) loves getting fun decor for her room. One of the gifts she has loved the most recently is a polaroid (instax) camera. The film is expensive but she loves taking pics with her friends and when we travel. I bought her a cute board to pin them up on in her room. She also loves bath and body works sprays/lotions, lip gloss, nail polish. It's a BIG treat to get a pedicure at our house so my DD would love that for her bday. What about a kindle or a karaoke machine?

What about a mother daughter experience? Spa or to a movie or theatre.

How sophisticated are her board game tastes? Can you buy her a really cool board game with a promise to play it with her? There are some great ones out there, but we'd need to know what she likes so we can recommend something. If she loves Clue, she might like Mysterium. If she likes playing 20 questions she might like Dixit. If she likes face paced games she might like Ticket To Ride (I have actually yet to meet someone who doesn't like this one.) If she likes dice games and is pretty competitive she might like King of Tokyo.

I was at Barnes & Noble last week. They have tons of fun games of all kinds, lots that you wouldn't mind playing with her.
Newberry Comics has fun stuff related to popular movie and television characters. They have pins, mugs, key chains, and everything else you can imagine for lots of different characters.

I just came from a Mendhi party, so I have to go with Henna kit. The kids were mad for the stuff I often buy small tubes of it and let the girls do henna tattoos on themselves. They are happily amused for hours.

My dd loves this game. It's funny because some of her friends love it and some don't (I think they find it too challenging!).

I bought her one board game - about telling a story. Will look at the name again and report back. It looks great.

Thanks everyone!!! What great choices!!
In the end I decided I really wanted to get her something cozy. Our winters are damp and she loves feeling cozy. With her late dance schedule I really wanted something that made her feel good. She didn't need a robe, PJs or sleepers. She has a good throw in her room. So I splurged and bought her a pair of uggs for wearing to and from late / weekend dance classes. Something she'd never ask for but sees some friends wear, something she never thought she wanted, but she opened the box, smiled (Yahoo!!), put them on and then took a photo of her and texted it to a few friends. The way of the tween, I guess. I got the chestnut colour to match her hair and now, instead of 11, she looks 15. Oy vay.
Paige.
