Any side sleepers have any pillows that they swear by that they want to recommend? I have a memory foam pillow but I don't know if it is too firm or what because my neck still ends up bent and I wake up with neck issues. I have an old pillow that I can pretty much fluff as I need to but that isn't ideal either because it can end up flat or too much in one spot and I am always trying to get it "just so".
I don't want to try another cheap department store pillow but am also afraid of spending money on a good pillow and having an issue like I did with my memory foam one.

Is your memory foam pillow a contoured one? I have slept so much better since I got a contoured pillow. I know they make them in different sizes and you need the one with the bigger "bump" for side sleeping - that's what I have. I love it so much.

But my head doesn't sink in at all, which is why I was kind of wondering if it is too firm. It seems like it will be really comfy but unless I work to keep my head in a neutral position, it wants to lean towards the ceiling.

I'm a side sleeper who suffered from neck and back aches. I currently use the MyPillow. I purchased a set of two "firm" from QVC, and I have been very pleased. The "firm" designation is not an accurate description. "Medium" is for smaller to average people, "firm" is for average to larger people. My favorite part is they can be machine washed and dried, perfect for me, as I have allergies. If you wait a bit, they are a Today's Special Value about once every quarter.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but you're putting the "bump" part under your neck and not your head, right? Your head should be just past the bump, so it goes "downhill" if that makes sense. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

Do you sleep with a pillow between your knees? I changed from being a back sleeper to a side sleeper when I was first pregnant 12 years ago. I always sleep with a pillow between my knees and can tell the difference when I'm away from home and don't have an extra pillow to use between my knees.

I've always been a side sleeper. The only pillows I can sleep with comfortably are down pillows. I now have 2 Hungarian goose down pillows which are the.best.ever.
Yes, they're expensive, but I'm saving a fortune in physio and doctors fees because I don't have any more neck pain.

I am the first to say that I am cheap....but I spent $120 on a Tempurpedic pillow and love it dearly. I bought mine 8 or 9 years ago and don't see the exact one available on their website anymore, but it makes a world of difference. I have neck issues with a slight loss of the normal curve in my neck, and I sleep SOOO much better with this pillow! Mine is sort of in between the TEMPUR-Contour Side-To-Back Pillow and the TEMPUR-Neck Pillow. Great neck support, and higher on the sides when I am sleeping on my side. I have seriously packed this in my suitcase for a vacation. It took up way too much space and I didn't take it again, but I sure did sleep well on that trip!

I've tried this for a few seconds but feel throws my back off, like it feels unnatural, and I'm worried in the morning I will be sore so I've never tried it. I looked at mypillow and it seems like a pain to change the padding to your liking?

I don't have a special pillow; I have a regular neck pillow and I also sleep with a pillow between my knees.

I sleep on 2 soba pillows (buckwheat) and they are very hard and cool. They do get warm after a while but cool off quickly. I love them. They weren't that expensive either. I think I paid about $50 for the big one and $30 for the smaller one (I couldn't get a second larger one and I was desperate aka i didn't want to wait for a month). I love mine.
I had this Laura Ashley feather pillow and my mother had neck problems (cervicular spine degeneration from osteopenia) and I gave her mine. It was a great pillow. It wasn't easy to give up but it was for my mom, and I do miss that pillow. It was a very hard feather pillow and I think it was incredibly well made OR it was pure junk but it was hard and cool enough to meet my needs.
I sleep on my right side and face a wall. That is how I like to sleep and use my soba pillows exclusively now.

I'm a side-sleeper and have been on the hunt for the perfect pillow as long as I can remember. I've tried them all. Memory foam, buckwheat, microbead, feather, contoured, and yes, even the My Pillow. What eventually worked was a combo of the neck pillow: and a plain old feather pillow. I position the top of the neck pillow directly under my neck and let my head rest on the feather pillow. It keeps my neck straight, supports my head and isn't hot. L

I have a very soft feather pillow I sleep on. It is extremely squishy. This way when I finally get my body comfy I can squish it around and under my head just right. I also have to sleep with a body pillow.
I bought bamboo memory foam pillows a few years ago for my husband and I. They were so overstuffed and they barely squished down when I layed on them. They were absolutely horrid. My husband got used to his after a week. I gave mine a month, and then I gave it to him. I will never ever use any kind of memory foam pillow again.

I'm similar to you and I think you might want to try two different pillows.
I use one for my head - a slight contoured (hardly contoured) firm memory foam pillow - because I like it.
I also use a small, oval type pillow - almost like a lombar pillow that I got out of my old bed in a bag set - to wedge where I need it to keep my neck supported. Sometumes i put it behind me to keep my head from rolling back and having my back all twisted and sometimes I hug it in front of me to keep my neck from collapsing down and curving my shoulders. I originally started using this pillow when I was nursing and used it to keep my breasts apart when I was sleeping and then I realized it was comfy wedging it in the right place. I found body pillows to be too big and wedge pillows to be too wide. When I'm on vacation I travel with an extra sweatshirt and wedge it where I need it and that has helped me sleep on vacation. I've just realized that my neck needs extra support to keep it where I want it or else I curl up and twist up and end up with pain in the morning.

getting my head and neck into a position to sleep is a constant struggle
i tend to want to sleep with my head thrown back -
the temperpedic pillow worked for a while
i'm back to tossing and turning and dealing with nerve pain down my arm
i think i need a friggin cervical collar to sleep with!

My chiropractor measured my neck and told me what type of pillow to get.
Honestly changing pillows saved my spine, my sleep.. Really revolutionized how I feel.

I like down pillows because they can be moulded to provide the kind of shape you want and that best suits your neck/head and have good support without being too 'puffy'. I've tried numerous other types of pillows and they're either too flat or too high and I end up with neck pain.

I sleep with a down alternative pillow. It works great because I can bunch it up under my neck and it holds my head perfectly.

I am a side sleeper and here is a copy and paste of my pillow recommendation from an old thread. It still all holds true. shredded memory foam/bamboo pillowi have this one and love love love it. I got it last year for Christmas and asked for another one this year so that I could leave it at our camp and not have to lug one back and forth. It did take a little while for the smell to dissipate once it was taken out of the packaging. But once it does it is a keeper in my books. i guess it all depends on what type of pillow you like, this is one that kind of molds around your head. Growing up I was allergic to feathers and had to have a foam one. The only ones that I like were the ones with chunked pieces. I hated the solid ones. At one point they seemed to stop selling the cut foam ones and I was so bummed. My grandmother's brother worked for a mattress factory and gave her a bunch of foam. She cut that into pieces and made me pillows. She worked on cutting up that foam for a long time. Now that is love! Good of luck finding one you like. A pillow is a very important necessity in my world. Also Costco may have had the one I linked at one time, not sure if they still do.

I am wondering if your pillow is just too firm. We both have contour pillows, but they are completely different. His is heavier and firmer and mine is lighter and softer. I will switch between this contour pillow and just a normal pillow. It depends on what my head and neck are feeling.
And just last night, I slept with the contour pillow, a pillow between my knees and hugging one more pillow. I. DID. NOT. MOVE. That is so very rare for me. Probably will not happen again for a while, but I slept great last night!
