I'll be spending Thanksgiving with my daughter's BIL family. They have 3 girls aged two through 8 or 9. In the past, when I have visited I brought a goodie bag filled with all kinds of stickers, papers, markers. They have everything. I was thinking of getting some kind of remade art kit like from Crayola or somewhere else. This would be good for the two older girls and the youngest would just follow them. Do you think that's good idea or what else do you suggest. I just want to bring one item for all three. Like I said, they have everything and don't want to overload. Also, I'll be bringing some homemade jelly or something else as a hostess gift also.

I don't think it is necessary for you to take a gift for the children, in fact, if I were the hostess, I would find it really odd. If your hostess gift is something like homemade jelly, then that is for the whole family and should be sufficient.

I think that's sweet, the little girls probably remember and are looking forward to your visit :-)
I think art consumables are always a great children's gift unless they're really messy.

What about a small jigsaw puzzle for each of them? I'd suggest one for all three but I'm sure they're at different skill levels. It would give them something fun to do while waiting for the meal, you could do the puzzles with them, and then they can easily be boxed up and either kept or donated elsewhere. Puzzles are cheap fun and don't take up a lot of space if they keep them. Or you could bring them each an activity book with different puzzles. Again, cheap, gives them something to do, and when they're used up, they can be tossed. My 11-yar-old niece has been a big fan of coloring and puzzle books for years. I love bringing kids treats, so I approve your instinct!

My 11 year girl still likes stickers and colouring pencils. So I would do crayons for the little one and a gel pen each for the big girls with a small notebook at a set of stickers.

I think it's very sweet of you and my girls would have loved it when they were younger (heck one is almost 16 and still would!!).
Mine always loved the arts and crafts stuff. They were also big on fun holiday socks, so maybe a Christmasy pair (if they celebrate Christmas). But I think the art kit, stickers, pens, puzzles ... all good ideas

I think it's very kind and thoughtful of you to think of them. I agree that you can't really go wrong with crayons and/or colored pencils and something fun to color or personalize. At our house my one kid goes through probably 10-12 pads of blank heavyweight drawing paper a year and countless coloring books. Now that she's learning to write we're blowing through lined paper notebooks like crazy too.

My sister always brings a gingerbread cookie kit for the kids to decorate. Gingerbread may or may not be premature for your taste, but the idea is fun. I've seen some local bakeries do kits to decorate holiday cookies. All ages love this activity, lol. It's just my sisters and my kids...they all spend some time decorating. The youngest is 9, the oldest 26

What about a game they can play as a family? (card game, board game, etc.)

consumables or an experience. They probably don't need more "junk".

I have 3 young girls in the similar age span. They would love it. They love to be recognized as special. Grandpa always brings sweatshirts. Always... It's the cutest thing to watch them clamor over who gets which one.
If you are going to be there for a few days, what about something you could do together? Take a look at the Tinker and Kiwi crates for ideas. My girls both have subscriptions and will play for hours setting it up and then playing. If you really have time, search youtube for a famous kid crafts guru and take the supplies to build whatever it is they make. For example, my oldest loves the guy who builds things out of boxes. Yesterday they made cat boxes (boxes shaped like a cat), paint and all. They loved it.

Aw, that's so kind of you! I would second the board game idea. My kids are on an Uno kick and will play for hours. My family also loves this Race to the Treasure game! It's a cooperative game, so you all work together to defeat the troll. (which sometimes is nice to not have anyone be a sore winner/loser). I think they make several other games too, but this is the only one we have.

If you're wanting something to help occupy time and keep them busy, the art stuff is a good idea. And I really like the puzzle idea someone mentioned. They can be super cheap at the dollar stores and places like that. I love that you want to bring the kids things. Holidays are a fun time for kids, and with adults getting together they can sometimes be in the way 😏 so busy toys are good. I used to play board games after thanksgiving dinner with my grandparents and loved it!

I think bringing the kids something is a great idea! My daughter who is 17 would love it even now!
What about those chocolate advent calendars?
I also like the arts and crafts stuff. You can find some cute kits at Michaels and you probably could find a coupon to use.
The smallest child you could give a board book or a wooden puzzle.

I love to give books so I would find a nice book for each girl. The older two can then read each other's books and they can read to little sis. Books are flat for packing too.

I saw at Dollar Tree they have "adult" coloring books, but some of them aren't that detailed. I think those would be great for the older girls. I'm not sure about the 2 year old.

So thoughtful of you and I'm sure the girls and the parents appreciate it!
My former mother-in-law has sent gingerbread house decorating kits for my daughters several holidays seasons and they love it. What about a pumpkin decorating kit?
The age ranges do make it hard . . . I also like the suggestion someone gave above of a board game or a card game the family can enjoy.

And then read to them to keep them out of mom's hair.

If you can find an inexpensive set or used set of the Little House books that is a hit right now among my granddaughters little group of friends. They are eight and nine. They are reading them and discussing them. And doing crafts and cooking recipes from that time along with watching some of the old reruns together.

Michaels has a ton of foam and sticker thanksgiving themed art kits-turkey plates, centerpieces, seating cards....they could put them together and show them off on the table. My daughter, nieces and nephews for that age range and they love painting the "stained" glass, the Melissa and Doug sticker art, making lip gloss, pretty much any kit from the craft section.

I think that is a fun idea. A little journal with fun pens/markers always goes over well. Maybe a little smash book for each of them.

I printed out some gorgeous Thanksgiving themed coloring sheets last year to bring for downtime because I truly hate small talk with DH family and it was a nice way to spend the time instead - they call them adult but just detailed and I'm sure an 8 or 9 year old would love, it would just take them longer. Adult coloring sheets ThanksgivingGorgeous pumpkin zentangle coloring sheet

If you think they might have it already my girls (7 and 11) like UNI dare or other card games like Dweebies or Sleeping Queens, but those would be harder for a 2 year old. Crazy 8s would be good for a 2 year old. My girls wouldn't do crafts but they'd play cards, a game, or do a puzzle. I thought the gingerbread house was a great idea. Even a cookie kit in a jar is fun - and they had the liquids and spoon out the cookies.
