I was recently visiting Yellowstone Nat'l Park while it was being ravaged by several forest fires. The fires were managed but were not put out because burned landscape is necessary for the land to renew itself.
It dawned on me today that perhaps that is what this election cycle is doing for our country. The garbage that has caught fire and is filling our news and our collective consciousness might just possibly burn away the trivialities that have clouded our vision of what America should be and what our forefathers dreamt it could be. Perhaps we have hit rock bottom. The forests have been cleared by a hot distructive discord. And while it has been painful to watch, maybe now we can plant the seeds for a future that will flourish because what we are has been laid bare and we can no longer hide the evil that has been growing in our midst.
i am not talking Republican vs. Democrat nor Liberal vs. Conservative. I am talking about the country coming together to stand up against the racist, misogynistic, sexist underbelly in our country and becoming unified in our belief that all men and women ARE created equal. And we will no longer put up with anything else from our leaders, our officials, our neighbors or our families. Maybe this election has done us a huge favor and like Yellowstone we can become renewed.

Well, that is such a gosh-darn positive outlook on this crappy election cycle that I cannot help but hope you are darn-tootin' right! On the other hand, I just ate 115 calories worth of KitKats, so I might just be in an endorphin-induced state of euphoria. Also -- I was just thinking last night how so many people say, "I don't know anyone who's voting for _______." None of us here on this board can say that. We know lots of people voting for lots of people. Yay for diversity!

I wish you were right. But it's hard not to think our country is going to hell in a hand basket. Jen

How can we convince the congress and senate to become more moderate and to work together for the people instead of standing firm on party lines and their own agendas? The two party system is killing our progress forward.

I can only hope. Reading all that repealing the 19th Amendment stuff yesterday I was starting to think about moving to another country...

Maybe. It's been a rude awakening to this country girl. Here I was thinking we'd come so far in racial and gender issues. I feel like I'm back in the 60's again.
I do hope this becomes the cleanse and renewal such as the forest fires.

We the people need to be the change!!! That can be done at the polls by not voting blue or red...there are other candidates on the ballot and unless and until "we the people" speak out at the voting pills...nothing will ever change.

We are all arguing over the garbage that represents the 2 dominant political parties. I think it's time we speak and use our voices and be the change

I don't think it can or should be solved through politics. If society refuses to accept behaviors and actions that are abhorrent starting at the local level- if we call people out on it and refuse to tolerate it, politicians will be forced to follow suit.

We've got a huge chunk of the electorate not only supporting Trump's behaviors and actions, but cheering him on and even following suit. That's why even if Trump loses, he's already done his damage.
