Throw the bottles at them!!
Our's just does it a few times and then gives up so we don't have the issue.

I have no idea what it is because I haven't googled yet. But on an education board I belong to, on the substitute teacher sub-board, someone was complaining about kids doing this in his class. I had no idea, probably because I only sub in elementary.

That would annoy the crap out of me. I don't buy water bottles, so thankfully I haven't seen DS do it.

I didn't know it was a thing until a recent vacation when a boy and his dad did it for a good 15 minutes. I just about lost my shit. I don't have patience for stuff like that, obviously.

There are tons of YouTube videos of people doing it. Apparently it is a worldwide thing now.

Thankfully my daughter just tries a few times and then gives up. Or gets it to work! But if she was doing it over and over again it would drive me crazy.

It started at my house a few weeks ago but was, thankfully, short lived.

Another mom was just asking me about this at the park.
I told her we just don't buy any bottled drinks in our house.
Problems solved.

I'd just let them do it, it won't last forever.

IT is harmless... give them a place away from you they can do it and let it go. The garage, back porch, their bedroom.... save the fight to break a habit for a serious life altering type of habit. Bottle flipping will get old soon enough and they will move on to something else.

Omg, I can hardly handle it. My kids do it at home and then my students do it at school. I let them get away with one or two flips at school and then they are done.

we had DS's birthday party at a trampoline club last weekend. there were 12 boys in grades 5 and 6. after the jumping we had the party room and that is ALL they wanted to do. they were trying to flip them to land on a box that covered the light switch on the wall. which happened to be located 6 cms from the wall mounted flat screen tv. i was like so i re-directed the bottle flipping to the other side of the room. at the end of the party, i announced to all DS's friends that in lieu of a loot bag, i was letting them take home the best toy ever - everyone gets to bring home their water bottle to remember the party. i got a bunch of incredulous looks, i will tell you!!! then i told them i happened to have $5 gift cards from tim horton's for them as well. lol!! totally annoying... if i had invited them all to a party and said "play with your water bottles" they would look at my like a crazy woman!!!

Lol, If we could do interventions on our kids for driving us insane someone would have invented it during the stone age.
Ban it from inside the house, like running, screaming, throwing balls and other insanity-producing nonsense.

Well, you're the parent. If it bothers you, tell them to stop. I don't know what this is and I don't care enough to read or watch a video on it. DS decided to twist the crap out of empty water bottles for a very, very short time (because I put an end to it). That sound drives me nuts.

Things that annoyed me became outdoor toys. No playing inside - period. I'd do that or just stop buying bottled water. easy peasy. If they break the rules then drop the hammer. Don't be a wuss.

Lol mine do it too. They're 15 and 17, so they know if it spills they clean. So they better hope it doesn't spill.... And the more I tell them not to, the more they do it to tease me...so I've learned to let it go, and they stop

I'd just send them outside to do it. If it gets cold where you live, it might be a short-lived interest over winter

One of mine does it too. I'm just afraid that the bottle will break and something will end up soaking wet.

My kids do it at school. Or, I should say TRY to do it at school. They were flipping them in class and I told them to toss the bottles. "But it's wasting water!" "Then guzzle it and throw the bottle away..... Moving on to the math you're supposed to be taking notes on." They were flipping them on the lunch room tables and hit a few trays. They got banned. Then they started flipping milk cartons. Now, they will be receiving detention for any flipping of anything. If it continues, my principal has declared that plastic water bottles will be banned completely.

My classroom is in a portable that doesn't have a water fountain or any water source nearby, so my kids need to BYOW. I confiscate about 5 bottles daily because of the $/?!@ flipping. I can't do away with them completely but man--it is beyond annoying. Hoping this craze passes quickly.
FTR, after the bottle is gone some of them try to flip whatever they can get their hands on.
I wish they'd be as goal-oriented about other stuff. Like, I don't know, their grades and success at school.

My boys are obsessed with flipping water bottles and it's flipping getting old. There must be at least 20 water bottles all over the house and I was asked not to throw them out. Jen

I supervise lunch sometimes at our elementary school. Bottle flipping is rampant in the 4-6 grade range. Major problem is that they forget to tighten their lid and water goes everywhere! I can't believe I am now at the point I have to take away drinks from kids. Hoping our fall break has given them a chance to forget about bottle flipping lol!

OMG. My 4th grade grandson does this all.the.time. Drives me to distraction. Ugh. I band him from doing it in the house or around me.
He came home from school yesterday and said they are no longer allowed to do it at recess any more.
My DD (his mom) said it first started with his travel hockey team. All the parents we threatening to stop allowing the boys to have Gatorade bottles if they didn't stop.

Lol I work at a Jr High. It is awful here, and happening not only in lunch but also in class. We've been told to write students up and send them to the office. All three grade levels have been talked to about it, so they have their warning. I think they're about to make it where only refillable water bottles are allowed.

It's here in Poland too but I haven't seen it played. I just saw an email saying it was only allowed outside, not in the lunch room any longer.
