Do you obsess about something that you MUST OWN and you will not stop until you have it? I feel this is so me right now for a few things. I'm obsessed with finding a good deal on a 1 3/8" circle punch...problem is, the only company making one right now is Stampin' Up and I keep missing out (bad memory and forget when the auctions end) on the really good priced ones...and when I go from casually looking (I've been checking eBay for months on and off) to obsessively looking, the prices go from under $8 shipped to nothing selling for less than double that (which I won't pay and why I won't buy it from Stampin' Up directly, lol). Many circle stamps (especially ones I've been liking from my $5 kits from SC) are too small to look proportionate with a 1 1/2" punch and are too snug in a 1 1/4" punch. Being that I want it mainly because a cheap kit inspired me, I'm being cheap about the punch, too. But...*sigh*...you know what's going to happen as soon as I procure it? It's going to be treated like everything else in my museum...ahem...craft room and just you watch, it'll go on the rails with my large circle squeeze punch and 2 whale style Stampin' Up punches hardly to be reached for. Nothing tops the feeling of knowing I managed to snag (especially for a good price) something that I had coveted for a long time and nothing can really stop me from searching until I get it...sadly, even if in my heart I know I won't really use it nearly as much as the energy I put into getting my hands on it. I think I hunted for a decent priced typewriter for 2 years before I got one (mostly because of good timing in finding it AND because I was redoing my room and would have a place to keep it out permanently...if it needed to be lugged out for use, it would never get used which is why many others slipped through my fingers) and I actually use it periodically, so yay for that one. Now, onto my real dilemma. I'm cheap. Stampin' Up? Not cheap unless you're lucky to get something at resale or on the clearance rack. Even if I signed up as a demonstrator (bye bye $108 if I do that) it's still going to be a lot of money (I 'need' some new inks from them, too...so it would make sense to sign up for the discount since I want enough stuff to make up a demonstrator package...again...for like the 3rd or 4th time...but we'll not get into that now) for the Paisleys & Posies stamp set and dies (plus the paper, I need the paper...copper foil everything and I will probably buy it from you...do you hear me scrapbook companies, do you hear me?! copper foil ALL. THE. THINGS.). It's $45 for the bundle and while I'm open to looking for them after they are discontinued, it is just so beautiful that I am convinced it will end up one of the handful of sets every year that end up selling for double or triple their original sales price. Surely I can't be the only person like this? Or maybe I am...I am kind of strange like that. But hey, if you are or aren't and want to comment and convince me to buy it...I'm open to enabling in between pages over at splitcoaststampers and YouTube videos showcasing the set.

perhaps obsess is a strong word for me but I definitely get determined to locate something. I was determined to find the Stampin up Round Tab punch. found it (for an excellent price to boot). then I had to have the SU banner punch. both kinds. got those. not so cheap. then it was cursive typewriters. not one, but lots, in different types of cursive. oh, I get where you're coming from. been there many times. thank goodness i'm not in one of those moods right now. LOL

I have about 8 cursive machines. the rest are regular type. I actually just gave away a rare script typewriter to a girl in Singapore who hasn't been able to find one. I would help her find auctions for cursive typewriters but the sellers never wanted to ship that far or the shipping was crazy crazy expensive or the auction ended at a super high price. I finally just sent her one of mine. I sent it to her friend in the US who shipped it out to her.

Not really. I have a pretty manageable stash and I'm not very prone to impulse buying. I get that for some people, it's all about the thrill of the hunt, though.

I am still trying to find Aurora and Adrift. I can find pieces of them now and then, but I want it all.

I think I have finally gotten to the point, where I seriously consider whether I really "need" something when it comes to hard to find stuff. I am trying to downsize because too much overwhelms me. I don't hunt for things like I used too. Especially since some of those times I end up either not really using the item or finding myself not liking it as much as I thought I did.
Now I kind of look around for it, not find it, and then kind of forget about it and never search again. If is pops up in an expectd place, then maybe I will reconsider it. In the meantime I have enough stuff.

No, I'm not like that.
But maybe I have somewhat of the opposite problem. I am always worried about buying too much at a time, and then being stuck with stuff I don't use much, having it fill up my storage space, and not being able to buy new (better) stuff.
Because if I've learned one thing about scrapping supplies, there is always more coming soon.
More releases. More product. Something newer, better, more fun.

For me because things get retired and discontinued so often in the scrapbook world it gives me the "get it before it's gone" mentality. It is a real dilemma (first world problems...LOL) because I am running out of room to stockpile things yet I am still kicking myself for not buying some things years ago which makes me feel like if I really want something I need to get it while I can.

I can kind of relate. I will obsess over something just long enough to miss out on it, and then be too cheap to spend what it would cost to buy it used.
As for your 1-3/8" circle punch dilemma, I would solve that one quickly by just cutting the circles that size with my electronic cutter and stamping on the pre-punched circles. Boom, done.

scrapaddict702- I love your museum comment. That made me laugh. Yes, I do obsess over things. I wanted one of those little 4-inch guillotine trimmers. I don't know why I needed one but every time I see one on YouTube I just had to have one. I kept looking for one but they all disappeared or had a Cutterpillar Pro price on them, lol. Tonight I was at WalMart and found one. I was so excited. Now it is in my home proudly being displayed in my museum, lol. It is not scrap supplies either. Right now there is a huge craze for Kawaii llama's. I had to have one. I knew I would never see one. I found only one at GameStop a couple of months ago. I never threw down money so fast to purchase something. Now, my llama is happily setting on my desk with my Emily the Strange Doll I obsessed over. My expensive Marie Antoinette Blythe that I obsessed over. What is sad about my obsession craziness is that I am frugal and don't like clutter. If I get obsessed the hunt will not stop until I have it.

SaveSaveThis is me, except for the too much overwhelms me. I'm the complete opposite. I want all. the. stuff. and then I can happily create. I once had all the room in the world (back when I had just started to scrapbook) and I never really worried about too much because it was so far away. It's only been 5 years. For at least a year I could say that I had used partially just about everything I bought (maybe not Thickers, but definitely my paper kits...always collections...always from scrapbook steals from their Wednesday morning deals) and now I can't even say that about half of my stash. I get anxious easily and the more kids I have had and the older I have gotten, the worse these traits have become. Shopping de-escalates my anxiety, mostly because it gets me out of my head and redirects my thinking to trivial things...but now, with how much stuff I have, after I order I stress about where it's going to go. That is partly why, especially when the item in question is not inexpensive, I go the obsessing route before purchasing it. If it's inexpensive and I feel like I'm getting a deal, where it will go is not given any priority in my thinking, lol. I'm not far off from having to do another donation to a friend of mine to get rid of pieces from the deals that I know I won't use (grab bags, kits where I don't love every piece, Tuesday Morning paper packs where I don't need 25 of the same sheet, papers I won't use from paper pads, etc). About the only thing that I haven't gone down a huge buying frenzy of has been mixed media stuff. I know it's not me and that I won't use it much. I have a few pieces here and there, but nothing OTT like every other category in my stash (one tiny shelf for pastes and paints and a peg for stencils).

Um, let's see. My name is Elannah and I own everything ever made for scrapbooking.
The sticker story I will tell you. This is a true story. I was at the lss and someone had used these K&Company stickers on a layout. They were word stickers and they were epoxy stickers. I loved them. Well I HAD to have them but the LSS was sold out. The only store I could find them at was dMarie. So I am not paying $6 for one set of stickers so I ordered 2 packages of them, of course. You know to make shipping worthwhile. Then I went to Michaels. Well, they had them there, and I had to buy something that night so I got 3 packages of them because I COULD!
Oh yeah I have a paper problem. Rhonna Farrer came out with this really pretty paper one year and it was SO hard to find. I could NOT find it so the LSS did a reorder of it because so many people wanted it. So when she got it in I was so excited I got 5 sheets of it. Yes, 5 of the same patterned paper. I still love the paper but 5 sheets? Really? Really.
I have 25-30 Quikutz alphabets. I am not kidding. I have tons except the one I really want. Well I started off with 4. That lead to 5 which was then 8 or 9 then 15 and then just the odd one and then the shadow sets to match. Then they came out with the Grand dies and I got 3 of those fonts. Yes, it is a lot of stuff. Stuff I am getting rid of.
I feel your pain. (The QK I am keeping. I like all of them!)

Have you ever heard of Copic markers? No? Well I had to have *all* of them. All 300+ and I got them all AND I had duplicates and triplicates. Yes, you can be that dumb. Well I also found out I hate colouring. I just don't like doing it at all. Crazy I know, but I just don't like colouring. So I had BFF take all the Copics and get them out of my sight. I find the odd one and I get mad at it and her for not taking it. I am mad at myself but it's easier to blame her for it. amblet she knows how much I am mad at myself for getting all of them. There are things i love, though. I love Doodlebug buttons. Oh man I love them! I love Making Memories buttons and Theresa's hand dyed buttons. I love stickers and embellishments. I love little bits of ephemera. I don't have tons of it but I do have some. I have lots of paper that I still love, too though.

I'm the dummy that will pass on something because I'm cheap and then when it's impossible to find, I'll want it and end up paying triple to get it. Sometimes I just cannot figure myself out! That's how I feel right now over a Blossom punch. I wanted it and the stamp set SO BAD, but because I really only wanted one of the stamps, I never bought it (and effort to behave myself a bit). The punch alone is going for over $40 on ebay (and I believe it was marked down when it was announced to be retiring on top of it, so it is really inflated from where it was just 5 or so months ago)...there is one 'deal' with the punch and stamp set for around $47 with shipping, but most of the others are that much or close to for the punch alone. The stamp set by itself isn't going for cheap, either. The upside is...there is a youtuber who no longer youtubes (she created a website and it's a subscription service, so I don't see what she makes anymore) that I loved following...she was actually the reason I started to like SU and warmed up to their prices some. She got me into buying this hot cocoa and candy cane set (plus the dies) and apparently it's now selling for inflated prices. I have only used the star die that came in the framelits set (well loved), the rest is brand new, so I could technically pay for the paisley's stamp and die set I want by selling that one...but 'what if I need it down the road?!' lol.

(Slowly raises hand...) Yeah, that would be me too about waiting until it's impossible to get before really wanting it. I guess I'm just a slow learner! The worst part is that sometimes I will still want it at that point even though I know in my heart of hearts that I won't likely EVER use it. You know the Lawn Fawn Christmas stamp and die sets with the little gingerbread people and the gingerbread house? I have wanted them forever. I found--and bought!--the stamp set gently used at my friend's sale and irrationally want the dies too, even though I pretty much KNOW I won't ever make a single card or project with them. Totally stupid. I've looked at buying the dies on Amazon or other online stores or eBay, see the cost plus shipping and say, "Nope. Don't want it that bad." But if I saw it tomorrow in some store or at a garage sale, you and I both know it would be coming home with me! The irrationality of it totally annoys me, and yet I still do it.

Ahhhh!! I prefer to not call it obsessing over something, but rather the thrill of the chase!! 😁 I too will wait till it's to late for either not wanting to pay retail or taking to long to decide if I really want it! Then all of a sudden, I NEED the tool, colletion, sticker book, thickers, or whatever it may be. Then the hunt begins!! And just like the OP and many others have said, once I obtain the said holy grail item, it will be placed where it belongs and often not seen or heard from again for a long time!!

Even if you have to call the manufacturer to tell them it is sold out everywhere and you want this one piece of paper. Don't ask me how I know...

I obsess over layouts I'm working on, and even some I have finished, but not over stuff I want to buy. I have a very small scrap space, so even with the very low amount of scrappy shopping I do, I still feel overwhelmed trying to organize what I have. That kind of sucks the fun out of buying anything new.

I don't quite understand the obsession. I would just buy the punch. It's a universal tool with a bazillion uses. Clearly it's something you'll use and enjoy.
Pull the trigger.

I tend to obsess about expensive tools. There was a Bluetooth lens you could use with your iPhone. I heard about it on a podcast and thought I needed it. I never did see it in person. I looked at it online at Amazon and Best Buy but couldn't bring myself to buy it. I put it on my wishlist, but not I think they have quit making them. Same with the Silhouette and the Scan-N-Cut. I watch videos and check sales, but I already have a Cricut so I talk myself out of it. For the most part, I obsess but don't buy, but if a great sale comes up.....

For certain things, I am extremely cheap. However, I did win an auction yesterday for under $10. Downside is that it doesn't look like it cuts great, but for $5 (plus shipping) I figured I can give aluminum foil and wax paper a go.
